After watching this video. I ordered one of the pumps. It worked great!!! Thank you for saving my G-D back and the need to crawl underneath my G-D Van!
Hi Kip, just received my pump from Amazon today. That is a great hack. Thanks for this video. I really appreciate all of your knowledge and advice on these vans. Hope the weather cools down for you soon.
I bought that same one, make sure you use the supplied clamps, hoses fit tight until it gets hit whit the hot oil and they fly off! Don’t ask how I know but I spent some time cleaning oil off the driveway:(
I have been changing my PM oil for a couple of years now based on your previous videos. Can't thank you enough for this tip. Btw this is one of your funniest videos. LMAO.
Have been reading about the famous Kip Amore on the Travato FB page since we got our 22kl back in 2021. We appreciate the info in this video and are ordering the extractor after gaining confidence from this. Have always changed the oil in my Camrys but have taken our T in for changes so far mainly due to warranty. You can bet if anything goes awry with ours that in your area of expertise, we're coming from TN to get on your schedule. Great vid -thanks again
@@promastersonly1419 You bet, I will - hate getting under those. And you're right, those kids at the oil change places tighten both the plug and filter down like idiots
Pro tip: you can use the pump from a spray bottle and some poly vacuum line to suck out the excess oil through the dip tube after you overfill it. Don't ask how I know this.
Unrelated: Last winter, a snow storm turned to ice on my Promaster's roof, slid down the windshield, taking the antenna with it and breaking the mount. I looked for a video on your channel on how to replace the antenna mount, but alas, found none. I can find another channel to help me, but you are always my first choice. Thanks.
@@promastersonly1419 Same storm took the antenna off my Ford Transit Connect, too. I learned my lesson! My Promaster is a Winnebago Solis, so there's a lot of crap attached to the headliner to remove which isn't fair to ask of you anyway. Thanks for the reply.
I did same. Snow was deep a couple years ago. Ebay or Amazon has the mount and the antenna. The hard part is taking the headliner down to get to the bolt and wire connection. I cut a bit of the metal structure to access it. Now I remove the antenna in the fall Good luck.
Just make sure you don’t feed the hose in too much. It’ll hit the bottom and curl up and you’ll leave a bunch of oil in even though you think it’s empty.
Hi Kip, I bought the pump off Amazon. It really works amazing! Question What Oil Filter are you using? I have been using the Mopar filter. Which filter do you recomend?
I’m sure. It is! Besides opportunities for leaks, or forgetting to close it, or road debris taking it out thus taking out your engine there’s two major downsides to any drain plug/switch. You still have to roll around on the ground, and you are still leaving a shitload of oil in the pan. Watch my recent oil pan porn video to see just how much.
Doesn't the dip stick tube have a pice of metal stopping the dipstick from going to the bottom of the pan? Wouldn't it be better to extract the oil, from where you add oil?
I use a Denso which I buy in bulk, but from what I can tell all oil filters are pretty much the same. It's just paper in a plastic cage, and I suspect there is one or two actual makers of them and they are all just rebranded. Never seen a failure caused by an oil filter yet.
Hey Kip, to expand on the tutorial…did you remove the filter first- or at least loosen the cap? It is no easy task removing that filter cover. I have sprayed some ‘loosen your lid lube on mine’ - hopefully that will work.
I ordered it!! Plus a collapsible oil bag.. Thank you Any thoughts on if the steering wheel wobbles only when braking?? I took it to the dealer for oil change, tire rotation, swap serpentine belt, and check brakes.. and They only rotated tires, changed oil, and since I had bad wobble. I took it back and they said a tire was out of balance by 6oz. They rebalanced all tires and still feel steering wheel wobble when braking.. before it was worse when driving and accelerating and braking. They also told me that originally the could not swap serpentine belt cause it needed a "special tool" ... I ended up doing it myself. I knew they were lying. I really do not want to take it back to them again.
Almost 100% for certain a wobble when braking is a warped rotor. It's possible the out of balance (6oz out should barely be driveable) wheel warped the rotor. It's also possible that the rotor just warped as they do. Don't dick around with turned them, new ones are cheap on Rockauto. Centric or Power Stop are fine.
@@promastersonly1419 should I do all 4 ? They said the offbalance was on the rear and that was why I didn't feel it.. until it was moved to the front.. so.. does that mean possible both rotors driver side are pooched?
Do you think if I accidentally put in penzoil platinum that wasn’t high mileage in my engine that has 133k miles. Should I drain it all and put in high mileage before I start it? All for what is the best long term decision if you can help I’d appreciate it!
@@Joshuadelarosa-ce5tp It doesnt really matter, as all the pennzoil platinums are pretty similar. My guess is high mileage is just marketing. Will be fine till the next oil change.
Been using this on the road for the last couple of years. Make sure to move the hose up and down near the end to get the last of the old oil out, like Kip did.
@@dennislittlefield actually, what I would do is keep the empty oil jug. Next oil change, run the old oil into the old jug as full as you can. This will leave maybe 1/2 qt in the engine, but with 5 fresh it will be fine. Keep the new but now empty jug for next time. Now your old oil is in a sealed jug, ready to be disposed of easily and with no danger of spilling. The jerry can’s fatal flaw is that if it tips over during transport, it’s the Exxon Valdiz.
