In this video from our two storey extension series, Greg gives you more tiling tips and tricks on How To Install Large Format Kitchen Tiles. He is laying 1200 x 1200 tiles and takes you through the whole process, which involves setting up with his Dewalt green laser level, showing you how to cut tiles, and then how to grout tiles using Britflex tile grout.
PLEASE NOTE: we’ll endeavour to answer questions and comments as soon as possible depending on our work schedules.

Do you always butter up the back of the tile? Im self taught as ive been house bashing for 20 years. I figured out, sometimes the need to butter up of back of tile, due to when i was half into the install & the floor suddenly changed in level. Just enougth to make it impossible to level out tiles. Only remedy was lift some of the tiles. The small screed of adhesive massively helped to keep tiles in level with one another? As if gives you room to adjust a few mm.

Great video. I’m having new flooring laid next week and wondered what you’d recommend in terms of order. I’ve been told to have a plasterer in first to skim coat the walls, and then a tiler to come in and rip up existing terrazo tiles and lay new tiling. In your experience, would the process of ripping up a floor (terrazo tiles) cause any damage to fresh plaster? Which would be a few days ‘old’.

Hey Tony, lovely job by ye, is that a ditra mat that's down before the tile? What's the reason for this mat? Is it necessary when laying large format tile?
I'm starting a 120 sq mtr floor job soon, the slab is that liquid screed, with under floor heating. The system has been leak and pressure tested, and a commissioning cycle has been performed, but the homeowner does not want to sand the screed as the company who poured the floor say that it's not necessary due to what's in the mix that they use. Their data sheet also says nothing about sanding, only that the surface is clean, dry and has 2 coats of adhesive primer applied in opposite directions. Though I'm tiling over 18 years, I'm self taught and this is my first time doing a 1200 x 1200 tile. I think because I'm self taught, I'm extra cautious and careful when it comes to these big jobs. I want the homeowner to get it in writing from the screed company re the sanding of the floor, or else he is going to have to sign something from myself, separating me from any fault if the tiles lift. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Paul in Ireland

You really should flatten that mat in before trowelling your bed so it keys 100% into the waffle, other than that you do a lovely job boys.

Pointless putting large tiles, that are so expensive, in such a small room in my opinion as you don't appreciate them especially once those kitchen units are in.
You did a really nice job.

I guess it's down to personal preference. I love large format tiles.
