How do you prevent re-infecting yourself with cholera? Do you have to toss away all your containers? I am now on my third consecutive bout with cholera (even though I did not drink from unsafe sources after the initial infection) and it is just a thumb in the butt. It seems that just after overcoming the disease, I re-infect myself after a brief time, upon drinking from my any of my water bottles (I have two). I red online that you can sanitize your bottles with alcohol or desinfection spray, but that doesn't seem to be a thing, as I cannot combine the two in my inventory, nor interact with the bottle, when I put it in front of me and have the alcohol soulution in my hands. HEEEELLLPPP. It is so fucking annoying! The disease is not even that tough to deal with. Just eat and drink in small chunks and you will basically never puke. But it really hinders your ability to travel.
@@MightyJabroni It seems like this last patch broke most medicines. Pretty much the only thing that works now is eating vitamins. Eat one, wait until the buff wears off, eat another one, and so on. I was sick a couple days ago and the only thing that got rid of it was eating about six vitamins. I tried every other medicine. They’re currently pretty broken.

According to the DayZ wiki, the only way for Cholera to spread between players is if one player drinks from a bottle, which a previously or currently sick player has used, while the Cholera was active. This bottle will be contaminated. Pouring out it's contents or using chlorine tablets will not do a damn thing. It's truly the bottle itself, that is contaminated. Allegedly you can disinfect bottles with disinfecting agents, but that doesn't seem to work, as I found it impossible to combine the two. So this feature apparently is bugged or very convoluted (or maybe just limited to canteens?). What the DayZ Wiki however does not say, is that you yourself (!) can re-infect yourself with this very bottle, even though you just overcame the Cholera. I had three straight bouts of Cholera because of that and only got rid of it for good, by locating near a well and hospital (in one of the youth camps) and getting rid of my bio-hazard bottles. I have the heavy suspicion, that not only do the bottles swiftly re-infect you, but they also prevent you from healing naturally, since every gulp of water that you take out of these bottles will be treated as a tainted source. As far as the game sees it, you might as well drink from the most piss yellow inland stream that you can possibly find. I believe that to be true, because in spite of me keeping all my stats well into the white most of the time (and my immune system at a high level accordingly), I never overcame Cholera naturally, as long as I kept drinking out of my bottles. And especially my first bout with Cholera went on for-freaking-ever! So (while you actively suffer from Cholera) only drink out of a bottle if you need to travel. Then you can’t help it, because Cholera drops your hydration way too fast. So traveling any length without a bottle is not an option, when you have Cholera. But as soon as you make it to a well and hospital setup (unless you already have enough Tetracycline, then you don’t need the hospital), throw away the damn bottle. For it is of the devil. BONUS TIP: Can't find the specific pills you need (Tetracycline anyone)? Locate near a hospital and after you came up empty, just log out and log right back in. That should re-spawn a number of medical staff type of infected, who always come with a chance of carrying medicine in their inventory. By sneakily killing them and checking their belongings, logging out and logging back in, you can keep doing this until you have what you need. I got the Tetracycline this way that helped me to overcome my third and final bout with Cholera. But careful! If you log out and log back in and none of the infected that you killed in/near the hospital have spawned back in, that most likely means that a player is nearby. You might offer him/her your bottle …. if you have no soul. Hope this helps somebody.
Do you know if there is another way of contagion? For example, if I eat from a can, what's left of that can also has cholera, but the gloves I ate with too?
@@titibigotes2048 The only way to catch cholera, that I know of, is drinking from a tainted bottle or drinking water directly from a river. The only food related disease (other than cannibalism) is salmonella, which comes from eating meat raw, eating moldy stuff or from eating with bloody hands (gloves negate that effect).
I just returned to dayz on the ps4 after a long break and was confused as to why I kept getting sick when I've been drinking from the well. Now I finally know and all I have to say is that it's absolutely MENTAL that the devs made it so that you get sick from a pump!!
The only time Ive ever gotten sick from a town water pump location is when im using my blood-soaked bare hands to drink with, the pump is usually the ONLY water source i consume without chlorotabs or boiling. Also, if you hold your breath while aiming it uses your stamina so be careful, or at least mindful, of your stamina while focus-aiming people.

As this creator said, "make sure your keep your hands clean for fucks sake". Water pumps don't make you sick, they have clean, fresh water. Your hands were bloody or you drank from a container without emptying it and filling it with clean water first.
No see the reason why they don't kill you is . Your saved for the wolves and bears cause no one wants sick meat to eat . Get better and I'm sure you will make digital dinner to one of those pvp crazies
As a long time sufferer, I can tell you a few things for a fact: 1. Multivitamins take it away, if you take them soon after you contract the disease. 2. You can be full on water and food no problems as long as you sip and nibble over long periods. 3. Chlorine tablets spawn at castles and picnic tables also. 4. Charcoal tablets stop you from vomiting, which means you can get more nutrients into you’re body over a shorter period to get you back to a healthy state. Good video all round though buddy 👍🏻
Tip: You can raise your food/water well above yellow, up to full (stomach icon) while sick, remembering to consume small quantities. The trick here is to stop consuming PRIOR to seeing the tree arrows go up. If you consume while 3 arrows are up, you will vomit.

I’m currently in tisy military and I have cholera and I was chugging down food and drinks but I kept throwing up, but after watching this awesome vid I now know to have little at a time and keep it on yellow. Started playing on xbox recently had trouble with this, this video will now help me as u thought I had flue, seems I was wrong. Wasnt disinfecting my canteen either and I was drinking from water sources without chlorine tablets as couldnt find them. Cholera passes on to others in my group to, its bloody tough to get rid of if you dont have the required meds on you and everything's far away. Thx for the video very informative..

I normally try and pick up most of my medical items in the blue clinic buildings in the smaller towns. For the quietest areas some of the summer camps have those clinics too, should be less chance of meeting someone else.

@@thiwri5386 me and my group have been for the entirety of the update with NO sickness. The wells are safe. Just keep your hands clean and you'll be fine. Everything else will get you sick unless purified though
@@thiwri5386 if your hands need cleaned they will be visibly dirty or bloody (the biggest thing is blood) after you skin an animal without gloves your hands will be bloody and need to be cleaned before you eat or drink. To clean them you need a clean water source such as a well or a bottle/canteen of purified water. When you approach the water source (if using canteen, just equip to hands) and the prompt to clean your hands will appear
Can someone please help me, I have no clue what Illness I have, I have a Illness symbol, and I cough and sneeze, but also, if I have my character jog or run for a certain period of time, he gets a laceration? I don’t know what’s wrong with him

My trick is to take three, bites or 3 sips until I see only arrows that go down. Then I take 3 more of whatever and repeat

Fully gear and got sick for the firs time didn't even have time to find meds and I was dead ,sipping food and water is a nice tip tho thx

you've completely missed out chemical poisoning. water can be chemically poisoned.
IV Saline drip can help with dehydration, and will not cause vomiting!

@@thiwri5386 me and my group have been for the entirety of the update with NO sickness. The wells are safe. Just keep your hands clean and you'll be fine. Everything else will get you sick unless purified though

@@thiwri5386 if your hands need cleaned they will be visibly dirty or bloody (the biggest thing is blood) after you skin an animal without gloves your hands will be bloody and need to be cleaned before you eat or drink. To clean them you need a clean water source such as a well or a bottle/canteen of purified water. When you approach the water source (if using canteen, just equip to hands) and the prompt to clean your hands will appear
