I saw this concert at Madison Square Garden on June 26,1994. When she sang "the more I live, the more I learn" and the orchestra started the buildup, 17,000 people collectively inched forward. There was a power to the anticipation of the crowd which actually made a humming sound. I took a friend with me who never understood why I loved Barbra. At the end of this medley he grabbed me and said "now I understand".

This woman is objectively the most precise and awe-inspiring singer in history. Where have you heard such precision before. That is how you win 5 Emmy awards and a Peabody for this special. She is simply the Rolce Royce of singers. She cannot be in a top 10 list because she is in a class by herself

  • @donnamentrasti2695

Stunning! No other word for it. When you walk out of one of her concerts, that's how you feel... stunned, euphoric, and loving the world. Nobody rushing to get to their cars. Just people calmly walking out shoulder to shoulder, looking at each other with a look that says, "What the hell just happened? What have we just witnessed? There is no drug out there that competes with the natural high of a live Barbra Streisand concert. And there's no dancers, acrobatics, time-fillers, etc. Just one woman with a microphone standing center stage for the most part, and one fantastic orchestra.
Loving sharing in this journey of Barbra's career with you, Saeed. Oh and, it's not so much about being "smart," which you most definitely are, it's about being "aware" and in the moment. 😉

@SaeedReacts. It is indeed, and I was fortunate enough to go through it three times. And the pleasure is all mine to be a spectator on this journey. At 82, only God knows how much longer Barbra has in our dimension...I believe in honoring people's contributions to our history while they're still here, not only when they pass. Thanks for being a medium for that. Not just for Barbra, but for others... you do good work on this channel. 👏

@@SaeedReacts. Yes, I have seen her live 3 times. It is incredible to be in the same room with her. And over the years, she has or seems much more relaxed while performing and is having fun. So glad you reviewed and watched this. In her Timeless milennial Dec 31, 1999/Jan 1, 2000 concert, she does a "tri-et" with these two Barbra's and her 15 year old played by a young singer/actress named Lauren Frost. Equally stunning: th-cam.com/video/lTmKa8bXs90/w-d-xo.html The part with "young Barbra" starts at around 5 minutes in. Enjoy!

One of her many greatest performances…just leaves you stunned! When I first heard that note at the end of “A Piece of Sky”, I thought…how in the world could she have held that for so long?!! I thought it was on a loop, but it wasn’t…..and at Eighteen seconds…it’s not her longest note held…that was on “Barbra Streisand and Other Musical Instruments in 1973 when she held a 23 second belt at the end of a medley! Her voice and its timbre are truly unmatched! One of a kind!!!

Thanks again Saeed for a great reaction...as usual. That's how you put together a show. we had to wait for it 30 some years for Barbra to perform live and go on tour, but it was worth the wait. Nowadays singers don't perform live anymore, well most of them don't, but Barbra is just unique...15.000 people giving her a standing ovation after almost every song, that's incredible. She didn't do this medley in London on opening night, I was there, but the second time I went, her third show, she did it. This video brings back so many memories, I was only 35 at the time and being a fan since my early teens...mindblowing...

You finally got to see the Yentl Medley, how great! It's such a treat to watch you on your Barbra Streisand discovery journey. I'm glad I requested you to hear the studio album version of A Piece of Sky first. Now this medley is more appreciated. There's also a year 1999/2000 version of this medley.

  • @ChuckMusicDinoLover
    @ChuckMusicDinoLover 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Well, well, well...Finally! Lol! And your reaction, Saeed, did not disappoint. Isn't that a masterpiece?! By the standing ovations, you'd think this was at the end of the concert. It was only about two thirds the way through Act Two. She still had four more songs to do! For me, the best part of the medley was the duet with herself in the last segment of "A Piece Of Sky." When we were witnessing it live in the audience for the first time, we just kept saying to ourselves, "Wow!" and then another "Wow!" as she kept building it! And yet another "Wow!" when she finished! Haha! We were going crazy!
Now, about your James Cameron suggestion, seeing Barbra's movie ending and her staging with it, the timing does work out. Lol! Yentl was in 1983, this concert series in '94 and Titanic followed both of them in '97. Hmm... 🤔 Hehe!
Anyway, so glad you finally got to see it, or should I say, witness a true artist work her magic in front of 20,000 hysterically, exhilarated fans! Thanks for reliving a great memory with us!

Now I have the information that we are workers (I am almost retired LOL) from the same field! I’m a stage writer and director, also a screenwriter in my country. So it could be the reason I find your video comments so refined and interesting. You’re a writer!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And talking about plots and storytelling, famous movie director Vincent Minnelli already said in the 50s: there’s no more original stories to tell, what will make them original is putting your point of view to tell them. I don't particularly like 'reaction' videos, but yours are the best. Very intelligent comments, sometimes poetic, actually. And always at the right moment. You're very good at what you're doing. Now, about the performance: I love -and I really LOVE- Barbra Streisand, but a lot of the credit for this performance goes to the magnificent lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and of course, to the master musician Michel Legrand. Alan is still around (99 years old) but let's salute the memory and legacy of Marilyn and Legrand.

In our time when all the reference points of what it means to "have talent" are lost. In our time when we talk about "great talent" as soon as an artist (or who claims to be or is claimed to be) opens his mouth and pushes notes while shouting or vocalizing 'ad nauseam', there is nothing better than listening to and seeing such a performance to knock all these pretensions to the ground and remind us of the real measure of what "talent" is; the one that, by definition, is essentially a matter of "exception"... and it's better that way.

I know a lot can get lost in translation, but just to be sure the record is correct... Barbra herself co-wrote the script for Yentl, which was based on the short story "Yentl, the Yeshiva Boy" by Isaac Bashevis Singer; she also produced, directed, and of course starred in the film, and became the first woman to win a Golden Globe for Directing. Michel Legrand composed the music to the movie's score, but it was Alan & Marilyn Bergman who wrote the lyrics; Barbra recorded over 60 songs in her career that were written by the Bergmans, including "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" (along with Neil Diamond), "Ordinary Miracles," and "After The Rain."

Funny, when Yenta came out, I of course loved the music, but hated the movie (just couldn't buy Babs as a boy), and then saw it 20 yrs. later and still hated it. But then I saw it again (during last Christmas), and was absolutely captivated. Go figure. So now I'm thinking maybe I need to give the absolutely unwatchable _Hello Dolly_ another chance. Nagh, THAT will never happen.

There are some fun and good moments in the film: Before the Parade Passes By is fun as is "Love is only Love'--One of her most tender songs. So, my feeling is don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

@@eterneh489 Yeah that's a great scene/number as is the signature tune with Louie Armstrong. But the rest of the movie ... ugh!~ Hated Mathou, Crawford, and the annoying actress whoever she was. Barbra's scenes are the only tolerable moments in the movie.

Writing "Yenta" is funny! A Yenta is a yiddish word for a gossip and "busybody" who gets into everyone else's business. "Yentl" is a woman's name, so a completely different thing. Thanks for the laugh!!

@@snarkyenigma9219"Hello, Dolly" is one of my all-time favorite movies. I absolutely love it! I love Barbra, of course; but I also love Michael Crawford as "Cornelius". I'm a big fan of musicals.

@@kayblock-bourghs8285 The few (movie) musicals that I've ever enjoyed are Wizard of Oz, Meet Me in St. Louis, FG, On a Clear Day, Yentl, Mary Poppins, Oliver!, and Grease. But interestingly, I hate Broadway (of which most of these are made from).

When I read the book first I'm usually disappointed with the movie. The movie has to be cut to a certain length, and doesn't have time for all the nuance, etc.
