When I listen to this I feel sadness all those people that all went to work that day, went on a plane to go somewhere and just have a great life for it to be taken so horribly in the most horrific way it makes me upset. These words are so strong.

I did recommend this performance by Barbra of "You'll Never Walk Alone" to you - it was very emotional to me and it is obvious that her performance of this beautiful song by this beautiful singer always stirs the emotions. I knew when I recommended it to you it would moved you as much as it moved me. I always enjoy your musical reactions.
@@SaeedReacts. Since you live in Belgium and I in the United States we kind of have a hands across the sea thing going regarding Barbra Streisand. I totally recommended you watch all of these You Tube videos of Barbra singing "People", "Evergreen", the theme from the movie "The Way We Were" (song of the same name available on You Tube) which became know world wide as the original "Memoires" not to be confused with "Memory" from the stage production of "Cats", Barbra's "One Voice Concert" held in her backyard for a selected group of guests hosted by the late very famous US comic Robin Williams paying $1500 a seat with dinner and guest Barry Gibbs, (a one hour concert under the stars in the sky at night in the hills of California, a duet between Barbra and the late Judy Garland who helped start Barbra on the road to fame, and a You Tube clip of Barbra singing "Poppa Can You Hear Me" from the movie "Yentyl" that Barbra wrote, produced, directed, acted in and sang in. That video will 'using a street term in the US "that performance "will rot your socks off" meaning it is that spectacular. You will never ever regret having heard Barbra sing any song - she is absolutely brilliant. Now that she is retired (she's 82) you will never be able to see her in person but if you had you would have been mesmerized. Most of Barbra's musical selections/performances/albums are all available here on You Tube all free of charge. As an after thought , Barbra also sang a song for the then President of Israel on this 90th birthday in Hebrew in Jerusalem with the then President Bill Clinton as a guest.I could go on for hours about all the performance Barbra has done and have only given you a sample - you will be amazed if you do a You Tube search on Barbra Streisand. If you like good vocal , and I strongly suspect you do, you will not be disappointed in listening/seeing/hearing Barbra on You Tube.
The Emmy Awards had been scheduled and then postponed I think twice already, before it finally aired that year. Streisand had actually won an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program for her "Timeless" New Years Eve Concert earlier in the awards presentation part. But because they had not announced that she was going to be appearing on the show and closing the program with this song, she elected not to appear in the audience or on the stage to accept her Emmy. And when they went to the song, it still had not been announced that she would be singing. So that unexpected, sudden burst of applause of at the start of the clip was when some of the audience realized who it was appearing on the stage, and then when the spotlight went on to confirm that she was, indeed, singing live, there was another spontaneous burst of clapping. That marvelously soft but strongly and steadily held note at the end is incredible for any singer, much less one who was nearly 60 years old. She is, indeed, posessed of a remarkable instrument. As a Streisand fan of over half a century at this point, I think she is spectacular, but have to admit she is in posession of a massive ego. But the people at the Emmy's said that, while she was rehearsing, she kept telling them that they were spending too much time filming her, when they should be concentrating on the pictures and names of those lost that day. I am sure that there were plenty of people in that audience who detest Streisand's politics and don't care for her personally, but damn, there is no denying talent like that. I was always happily bemused by the fact that Bob Dole struck up a friendship with her near the end of his life, proving that you can disagree, but still respect each other!
@patriciaschuman4205 Not sure where you get your impression that she has a "massive ego" because, having been a fan for over 60 years, that just isn't true; and the mere fact that you mentioned about her insisting that they film the names and pictures on the wall rather than her, pretty much bears that out as well. Oh sure... she has had strong political opinions since before she sang at JFK's inauguration, and she is well learned and isn't afraid to share them, much to the dislike of the far right who use their dislike to try and 'make up' stuff about her. And it wasn't just Bob Doyle she struck up a friendship with, it was also George H.W. Bush, Colin Powell... and there were others. She has great respect for good and honest politicians, despite policy differences. Good recount on Emmy night, I had forgotten she was also a recipient. And I 💯 agree that she is a one-of-a-kind massive talent.
This was always one of my favorite songs not only because of the melody but the lyrics are so poignant especially on a day like September 11th. Babs sang it beautifully with so much emotion. Thank you for the heartfelt things you said. You are a special person😊.

Barbra won a Emmy that night and the presenters said she couldn’t be there even though it had leaked that she would be singing on the show. Then to have her walk out unannounced and deliver such a beautiful, heartfelt performance at the end of the show was mind blowing!
I was living in Providence Rhode Island that day, about 200 miles from ground zero. When the 2nd tower fell it caused an earthquake that extended up and down the Atlantic seaboard. I was standing on a cobblestone walkway downtown, talking with strangers and we felt it ripple under our feet. Fantastic choice to remember that day, Saeed.
Not naive, Saeed... wise beyond your years. You are so right, whatever happened to let bygones be bygones. We are all created equal inhabiting this small planet, and we have to learn how to respect everyone's differences and try to live in harmony, if we're ever going to have a chance to survive. Thank you for sharing your experience of that fateful day, and for your heartfelt feelings of this emotional performance, not only on this nation's most infamous day, but [as you said] also the rest of the world's. And I agree with your comments on how music can amalgamize a society. In fact, art in general. Made me think of something Barbra once said... "Art does not exist only to entertain, but also to challenge one to think, to provoke, even to disturb, in a constant search for the truth."

Bette Midler also sang for this occasion and it was so moving to see the people in the crowd crying as she sang. Ms. Midler sang Wind Beneath My Wings and I don't know how she got through the song without breaking down.
There is another reason why this classic from the movie "Carousel" is appropriate for this time of year. For fifty years, comedian Jerry Lewis ran a Muscular Dystrophy telethon on US Labor day, the first Monday of September. MD is neurmuscular affliction which results in paralysis and death. At the end of each telethon, Jerry used to sit on a tall stool and choke back tears as he tried to sing this song to "his kids".
To identify the original source of this song, it was written for the Broadway musical Carousel that opened in New York City in 1945 with music written by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II (the famous Rodgers & Hammerstein duo). It was already 56 years old when Ms Streisand sang it in 2001 and there have been many recordings of it over the years. You can hear Christine Johnson, who introduced the song in the original production, here: th-cam.com/video/J-Cu5R94Ybg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_3Fme5qD0nJ5qJEM
Still remember the day very clearly. Working on a vessel of the coast of the Congo. A very sad day for everyone. 😞😞 That does it, now I have to get a Liverpool FC season pass now 😂😂 Not naive, just showing empathy. Need more people in the world like that 👍🏻
It is a day that everyone remembers where they were when they heard this. All around the globe. A very sad day. Never been to a Liverpool game. I have some family that lives in England and my cousin is a big fan of Chelsea. Or used to be anyway :) Thanks! Appreciate that!
Barbra is phenomenal! Completely changing the subject, as you are a writer and appreciate language, I think you would really love the band Supertramp, especially "Take a long way home", "Logical song" and "Hide in your shell": awesome lyrics. Furthermore, the band’s sound is unique!
Thanks Saeed and Donna @donnamentrasti2695 for this special 9/11 performance! I always hold it close to my heart every year at this time. I've been a New Yorker for 36 years now. Moved here in 1988 in my 20s to pursue a performing career. And like most young entertainers, my first job was waiting tables. And the restaurant I where I waited was called Windows on the World. It was on the 107th floor of the North Tower 1 of the World Trade Center. I wasn't working there on that fateful day. But I think I sort of went into a kind of shock when it happened. I knew every corner of that space. Windows on the World actually consisted of 2 restaurants, a huge wrap-around bar, a wine cellar, and the Liberty Lounge on the 107th floor. And on the 106th floor was their banquet halls, offices and our locker rooms. I knew where everything was. As I watched that morning unfold, I kept thinking to myself, "Did they try that exit or that one or if they did this they could do that and..." I was going insane! Then after all was said and done, we found out that the plane that hit the North Tower 1, hit it more centrally than where the South Tower 2 got hit. So all the stairs down from floors 99-93 were completely destroyed. And you couldn't go up to the roof because there was no place for a helicopter to land because of the giant antenna. No one who was working above the 93rd floor got out. We lost everyone who was working the breakfast shift that morning. Every year since on 9/11, I still get depressed. But this is one of those performances that year that still makes me smile. Thanks again for sharing it with me this year.
During this performance i was thinking about these type of stories. People who got stuck in traffic and didnt make it to work or had a day off. And then i was thinking about the people who were there and their families. Devastating and heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing that ❤️

I believe its Gerry & The Pacemakers. Most famous as the anthem of Liverpool. I have been in Hasselt a few times 😄 Martinez does a lot of talking and analyses a lot of data in football, but never seems to bring results 😅. Thanks for watching!
The song was originally written for the 1945 Broadway musical "Carousel." There have been many who have covered this song over the years, but the first to do it and release it as a single, was Frank Sinatra. The film version, which came out in 1956, gave the song a wider audience and more covers ensued. I believe it was also a staple or theme song at around Labor Day for the annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.

This song!! Barbra's amazing and you know I love her magnificent voice. More than any other female singer. But Saeed, you've got to hear Elvis do this one. It's at least as beautiful. But it's.... more powerful. Spiritually. She's amazing. But him singing it brings me to tears every time.
@@SaeedReacts.The original is from the musical Carousel by Rodgers and Hammerstein, but the version by Gerry and the Pacemakers is the most famous and I would argue the best. Gerry and the Pacemakers is a Liverpool band and this song became the theme song for Liverpool Football Club in the 1960s. It is the most famous anthem in all of sports and to hear it sung by 60,000 fans at Anfield is amazing. I’m Canadian but my Mum is from Liverpool thus we all support LFC . I laughed I just got to your football reference near the end. Even though there is tremendous derision between football clubs I think most football fans, despite loyalty, recognize the beauty of this song and the meaning of the words especially when they relate to the Hillsborough Disaster.
When I listen to this I feel sadness all those people that all went to work that day, went on a plane to go somewhere and just have a great life for it to be taken so horribly in the most horrific way it makes me upset. These words are so strong.

Saeed: Please check out this other song from CAROUSEL, which I consider even greater for its lyrical ingenuity, emotional power, and exquisite melody: th-cam.com/video/mc4_6z8JsrQ/w-d-xo.html - Bruce P. Grether
Thanks for sharing this, Bruce! Will add it to my list and hope i can find some time to do it at some point.
@@SaeedReacts. Sooner is better than later! You may regret if you don't hear this soon… it's truly spectacular!!! - BPG
This song!! Barbra's amazing and you know I love her magnificent voice. More than any other female singer. But Saeed, you've got to hear Elvis do this one. It's at least as beautiful. But it's.... more powerful. Spiritually. She's amazing. But him singing it brings me to tears every time.
Stunning performance! I didnt know he sang this one! Thanks for letting me know!
Barbra suffers from severe stage fright. She rarely sings live.
Sorry but no one sings it better than Gerry and the Pacemakers
Is that the original?
@@blackbird8900 Thanks so much for sharing that info! Learned a lot of new things today 😄
kd lang did a better version of this song for the Australian Gay Games in 2002
