    Another culprit besides neck braces are Steg Pegz. I'm in the process of unlearning bad body position from using those for years. These videos are helping tremendously! I wish I had never used those things. Thanks a lot Ryan! Great stuff.

      Steg-Pegz arent really meant for MX anyways, they are meant for hours upon hours of DS. Plenty of people using Steg-Pegz for that . I guess the issue is if you start to default to them vs. use them when "needed"

      @@TheDeepsilver Ive seen them on Hunter Lawrences bike. I liked them but I feel much looser on my bike without them. They can easily become a crutch.

      Why do neck braces make u ride in a bad position. Can't u wear a neck brace and ride in a good position?

    I started out in MX in the 70's and 80's, dropped out of the sport in the late 80's (not easy on a young adult budget $ and living in the city, access to trails was always 2 hour away minimum). To get my dirt fix, I hopped into mountain biking/downhill/dual slalom. I have to say that all the stuff Ryan is talking about is right on the money, and while watching his videos I run it thru my mountain biking filter and there too, the same theories apply - even if there is no throttle to whack open on the landings - the body positioning ideas here remain the same. Never wore a neck brace either, so I find I naturally ride as Ryan recommends. Still, very interesting to see these videos! It's nice to see that I was on the right path all along, and never knew it - these videos confirm it. Good stuff here!

    I just subscribed. I used to watch mx back in the 90s early 2000s. I'm looking at your name and I'm like Ryan Hughes Rino why is this ringing a bell. Your beard and long hair threw me for a loop. Long story short I've been out of the scene since early 2000's and want to get back into riding but I want to do it right. I don't want to just get on a bike and hang on. Your quick videos really help. Keep up the good work. You deserve 100k subs no doubt

      I picked up a 2-stroke YZ250 last fall after not riding for 18 years, (and I got fairly fast late 80's early 90's). Ya know the old saying, "It's just like riding a bike."?
      Well, they forgot the second half of that popular phrase: "For the first time".
      This time it is different. I am in no hurry to get fast again. :) Just sandy whooped out Michigan trails too, no MX tracks for me anymore.

    The first thing I learned that made me ride better was to go around the track in 2nd gear keeping the rev just at the powerband and keeping the left hand behind my back. This will automatically force you to stand correctly over the bike and the legwork will come naturally, or you will fall off.

    Good video. I myself ditched the neck brace even before watching this video and I am much more comfy and agile on the bike. Neck braces do help to protect , but only if you wear them correctly, meaning very high up and close to helmet and I just can't see myself riding a mx bike with such a stiff neck.

    I don’t really understand how the neck brace effects proper riding position. Ryan Villopoto was one of the face humans to ever ride a MX bike and he wore neck brace. I’m thinking these riders had bad technique regardless of the neck brace.
    Just my my humble 2 cent.
    Keep the videos coming Ryan.

      I think he means, a neck brace isn’t going to help your position, it’s a false sense of security, with a sketchy rider style. Fix the position and maybe one crashes less?

    • @northernmichiganadventuree7476
      @northernmichiganadventuree7476 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He has a video explaining why the neck brace is bad for form. Basically if you wear a neck brace correctly and you try to ride with proper form, the back of the brace pushes your head down and you can't look ahead. So in turn riders switch their position so they can see forward instead of looking at their front fender.

    I'm having a hard time jumping over 100ft theses days. The bike bounces and swaps bad when I overshoot or case .I never had a problem before I destroyed my knee. I also trail ride alot and try to set up my bike for sharp turns so I have the forks up the clamps a little bit. Should I put them all the way down to get more stability.
    I feel like I going to die out there now. I give the excuse to my friend's that I'm just getting old(31). But I know something is not right either my bike or me. And I'm going crazy over it. I'm going to try to figure it out but riding this year hasn't been fun.

  • @JohnHowerton137
    @JohnHowerton137 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    👌 That’s a biggy, especially for people with large feet. Long feet have more leverage. When you put them on the balls, the heel tends to drop a lot to keep the rider feeling like they are in the same familiar position. Bit of an adaptation period to get them feeling comfortable with the weight forward the peg and off the arms. The extra height is ultimately reduced with the corresponding and necessary hip unlock and bent knee instead of stiff straight legs.

      If you have a matching helmet designed to work specifically with a neck brace you can almost certainly look up far enough for example a leatt helmet with a leatt neck brace. As for the 180 turns I cant say. I ride rallymoto where 180 turns aren't really all that common, never mx.

    I wish you would spend more time showing correct body position versus all the time spent showing incorrect position. If you want to make a video to help people, then stop wasting time on the negative and just show us the right things to do. We can't all afford to pay for high priced trainers, and most of us will never have the opportunity to meet you in person or be able to talk shop with you. So please just get to the point, and stop complaining about how much time you have to spend fixing bad form that is ingrained into us. We get it. Bad form is dangerous, less efficient, and less effective at producing winning results. Any rider who is serious about getting better will genuinely make an effort to learn and develop proper form, technique, mindset, strategy, etc. Bottom line, people will pay closer attention to you if your focus is clear and concise on what is right, and less focused on what is wrong.
