Definitely recommend repairing it and donating it to a person in need. Always good to watch people doing good, Alex over at legit street cars has done this quite a few times in the past and it’s enjoyable to watch
I was thinking the same. Repair for sure. If you don't have use for a dedicated shop truck like that then find some family that really needs it. Ask for some donations if needed. With all the hurricane and disaster situations you guys have had this year I'm sure you could find somebody in the area that this would really help to bail them out.
My vote is always donating to someone in need, especially at this time of year. Any time you can make the world a little brighter, even for just one person, it's worth doing.
I would love it as my ride as my car got stolen and as they stole keys from my house without leaving marks to say they broke in they refused to pay out I am still paying 22000 as this happen a week after my work accident which left me permanent disabled with spine issues and nerve damage, then a week later while am Using my car most. This was 10 years ago and my health is worse than ever. A car would make my life so much easier. But am in UK and it would cost a small furtune which I don't have
I think that it is a great idea Donating however the fact that someone doesn’t have a vehicle should raise the question why they don’t have a vehicle. I have witnessed where the recipient of a donated car could not afford insurance, license and title. Also a family member had a revoked driver’s license. So unless you can be sure they can afford owning a vehicle you are not doing them a favor it actually becomes another liability for a family with many existing problems.
@@c50ge I didn't have a vehicle a few years back because I ended up with a spinal cord injury and was on LTD and didn't have enough cash until I recovered to go out and buy a vehicle. I could afford insurance/gas, just not the cost of financing a new/used vehicle because I didn't have the money for that and a mortgage etc. So there are many reasons why somone could not afford the car but can afford the ongoing insurance, gas, repairs etc. Especially with the stupid prices of cars today. Sometimes people just like me have a bit of bad luck in their life and need a small handout to make life easier. Its not always because they made poor choices or can't afford to look after a donated vehicle.
Best use of the truck would be giving it to a veteran. I bet Amsoil and a major auto parts store would be happy to help out and get some good pub as well.
Aftermarket Auto Parts/Bumper to Bumper did a thing with local auto parts repair stores to fix up vehicles and donate them to mothers from shelters that had to get away from abuse and had nothing but some clothes. It was a great initiative that was much appreciated by the women in need
Doge wrapped and used as a shop truck. Many families in need would have more need for clothes/food than a two-seater truck. If it was a family car then maybe then but a two-seater truck would be harder to eat and stay warm with. Hey Justin, all the best dude, hope you are feeling better.
I am a fan of revivals so I feel you should do a series on fixing up the Dakota, especially if the rest of the car is in good condition. Regarding your truck, you do you. Like with the Dakota, nothing wrong with refreshing a vehicle that is otherwise still functional. It also makes great content. Justin, if you're reading this, I hope you are getting better. The flu sucks.
Ray, I've watched you for awhile now you have a good heart and if you fix the Dodge you'll know what to do with it. Life has a funny way of revealing the correct path just up to us to follow.. .ok enough philosophy, I truly enjoy your channel your deminer, honestly, common sense, and of course vocabulary makes me smile. Keep up the good work!
I support you not getting scammed and fixing up your own paid for truck. That's good stuff. Buying your own stuff. Fixing your own thing. Not leaving too much power to the bank. Not buying into "inflated" interest rates and driving what you want. God bless America! Happy new year!
You Ray, have the patience of a saint. In my day that C clamp would have been launched across the shop and embedded in a wall. My late husband would tell his friends, ooh, you done ticked her off, i can't help you now. (He was mechanically inclined as a frying pan.)and loved having a mechanic wife. On the Dakota, fix it, wrap it in your shop logo, and there you have a nice looking shop truck. Happy New Year to you and yours, from the great Northwest. 😊
With your skills you will have less than half of what a mortal would pay to refresh that truck. I'm impressed that you're doing the refresh.... It speaks to your character. Buying a new truck is an utter waste money. In the end you'll have a far superior product. Good on you.
Happy New Year Ray, Lauren and crew. Brake clean will knock wasps out of the sky Ray, never to bother anyone again. Fix it up and donate it to someone in need. Good Karma.
A decade or more since I used to refurbish Volvo S60/V70 front wishbones with Powerflex polyurethane bushes. A form of mentral self-torture. Watching you fit these bushes brought back all of the frustration!
Ray, I recently gave a vehicle to someone who was in need. For me the vehicle had little value, because older trucks need little stuff often. The young man I gave it to was very appreciative, of course who doesn’t like free. But more importantly I saw the vehicle a year later and it was very well maintained. Stone chips fixed with nail polish from the dollar store. Spotless inside and out. Regular maintenance was always done and to me a bigger deal this was his first ride. He valued it a lot, he took care of it. He was learning all about how to keep a vehicle going, where to find parts simple repairs (because of sites like yours) are now in reach of many young folks. I think there are many people who would appreciate a reliable vehicle, deserve a vehicle and aren’t going to put race tires on it and then not have the money to do oil changes. I watch your channel to learn how to keep my vehicles going. Many young people need to learn that skill, and should have something to start on. If you heard him talk about how a vehicle changed his life, getting groceries, garage sales, going camping,,on and on More important to me is he didn’t put a 600$ Amazon turbo, and crappy window tint and other BS. Perhaps you could do some coaching on repairs and maintenance then most people can do, and thing that you should talk to a pro.
Those bushing removals brought back nightmares from when I replaced my leaf spring bushings. Like you finally sawzalled a wedge of material....it finally made it much easier.
Doing truck stuff with my son this morning and trying to find a good used GM 1/2 ton. Last year his work crew bought a new 2500 HD Denali with the big diesel/alison, 2022 year. As you mentioned One of the top $$$ trucks in that class, but it’s a work truck and hauls a big trailer and tools. The thing was it had a head gasket go out after couple months, back to GM for overhaul.. they finally got it back to work for about a month and something big let go again. Time is big money for these guys and they were loosing patience. Dealer couldn’t find another one, was loaning them a GAS truck and was costing extra thousands in gas every month. Moral of the story is the truck you are building is likely more reliable than an unknown new truck. Don’t think that just because you spend MORE THAN $100k that it would be a reliable vehicle.
I had one in a dark red. Got me through floods, snow blizzards etc. In the end it lost a drive shaft and I couldn't keep up with all the small things that needed to be fixed. Loved that truck!
Ray, I watched a mechanic trying to install Urethane bushes with as much aggravation as you had , His solution was to use a Jubilee clamp ( worm drive hose clamp) to compress the bush slightly and drive it in
Few repair videos, maybe some sponsored upgrades. When it's safe and reliable you can give it away to someone in need. I'm sure that there are a lot of people who lost a car in the last storms and can't get another one. I looks too good to blow it up, especially when there is so many people that lost everything and this will be a godsend for them.
Yo Ray. Keep that truck thst was donated to you and wrap it with your shop name and use it for a shop truck or a loaner customer truck. Do not destroy. It's a gift so treat it with respect sir.
That's a super clean example of a 2nd gen Dakota! Definitely worthy of another chance at life. The secret sauce to these 90's Dodge trucks is always use Mopar components when possible, Magnum engines generally prefer Champion copper plugs, and only use ATF+4 transmission fluid. When servicing any of these 42re-47re transmissions, just drain/fill & filter change. Never a fluid flush. It's also recommended to replace the factory transmission cooler line with a standard transmission line. This will eliminate the check ball that's known for sticking, thus grenading the transmission. 2nd gen Ram's & Dakota's have always been the best looking trucks IMO. A perfect medium of design & functionality. A time before trucks became suburban pavement princesses.
Hey Ray, Definitely repair the Dakota cause it is in great shape. As for your comments on your 'Dirty Max', that truck is an extension of you and is your pride and joy so there is nothing that could replace it with a newer model when you already know this truck right down to the core. Happy new year to you, Lauren and your family. Cheers from Canada
As a DIYer, i once had to replace a bushing on an Audi control arm. I used a bolt, washers, and nut to pull the bushing into the arm. The key to it eorking was putting a screw type hose clamp around the bushing to keep it from expanding as i tightened the nut. Once started i could reposition the clamp and keep it going.
I like the idea of wrapping the dodge in your logo & using it as a shop truck. It would serve a dual purpose. 1: it would be great advertisement for the shop. 2: it would be good to use for parts running, plus give you a spare vehicle in case you or the wife unit would need it, or even one of your employees to borrow?
Ray, another for the win column! Well done lad! As for the truck? Fix and donate! It’s great PR and someone in need gets reliable transportation! A true Win Win!
Just watched you struggle with that busing, next time you do any similar bushing like that, including leaf springs..try this easy way, use a hole saw a little smaller than the bushing, so you can cut out the rubber (do not cut the metal), all you want to do is cut out the rubber part. After the rubber is gone (or mostly), use a air hammer, to drive the bushing in toward the center (dont try to drive it out), you just want to collapse the bushing inward, when you do this, it releases the pressure on it, and it will literally fall right out. Give it a try, youll be amazed how easy it is to get them out that ways. BTW: love your channel
Subscriber here, new subscriber love the channel. I am also a 45 year certified mechanic and a major Chevy fan. Love to see more videos of your Dooley rebuild. Great job.
Reeeeeeeee! When i worked in the water well industry we mostly dealt with seized threaded steel pipes. Always cut an 1/8th to a 1/4 of the inside fitting out. Then the chisel can do it's job better. Just an old fart with old experience. Thanks for the years of humor and sarcasm! - giggity
I liked the idea of using it for a shop truck, after all the work done on your own truck it should probably be used only when needed for work. So a shop truck would be good for You this time.
Just a tip. I use a long bolt and big flat washer passed through the bushing, then back it up with the larger ball joint cup with a large washer and nut. seams too work for me.
I would like to see it brought it back to life and donated. Not only would someone be grateful, I think you would feel good about doing something really nice. Get well Justin.
Ray, I was just telling my wife that I don’t take any joy in watching you struggle with a part, but it makes me feel better when I struggle with a part, and helps me not to throw things 😂
Always nice to see Lauren. Fix the truck and donate it. Good luck to Justine. I've been down for two weeks with the flu. Regiment of steroids and antibiotics. now into my third week and still fighting it. Now others in the family are coming down with it. Not easy to break. Nasty!
You're in the middle of the Silverado, so I think you should do a total rebuild of the truck, taking up yet another stall! Seriously, all the things you mentioned sound great but the repair and donate to a family in need gets my vote. In any case, I'll be watching.
I one hundred percent agree.Give the truck a fix up first, and donate it to a family in need. We all have to help each other out, especially with so many families struggling financially.
Hey Ray when is money everything's possible.... money is salvation!! without money it will be no churches 😂 so yes money makes everything possible, nice 👍
Bought a 2007 Toyota Solara off my neighbor for a reasonable price. It's in pretty good shape, doesn't look like 18 years old. I went through the chassis not because anything was bad but because I had some time. Have done everything but front wheel bearings and lower control arms. 150k miles, drives better than new and oil changes at 500 miles. Oil comes out nearly as clean as when it went in. I've got a really decent car for about 20% of new. By the way it's the 3.3 V6 so it is probably going to carry me to my funeral.
My mechicanic got a porta power brushing remover works real slick...it only cost him appox 3900 bucks but he easily made money back off me on a spring brushing on my freightliner book time 4 hours he did drop axle and remove and install using same tool in reverse order in apox 1 hour easy 300 dollar profit for him...400 DOLLAR JOB FRONT drive axle one side but had to drop both spring hangers
There are always people who are working very hard, but still have a very hard time getting ahead AND need a decent set of wheels. Maybe you can find someone like that who would appreciate it AND deserves a gift like that.
G'day ray we love a good ute here in aus. I'd love to see it working again and donated to a family who needs a new good ute/truck that has been repaired by the best mechanic in America. Love all your content and work keep it up my friend
When you started the old bushing removal I said to myself, "that goes out the other way" and voila - it did! Those compact saws helped a lot in getting the old ones out. I struggled with you putting the new ones in, I kept twisting myself trying to help you get the right angle pushing them in (could you feel it? lol) Thanks for taking us along on this, my first torsion bar project viewing. Very educational.😊 And, as always, thanks for including a Lauren/WifeUnit cameo - and also the doggies too! Sorry to hear Jason's under the weather. Best to him.
We did these type of insulations several years ago. We went a purchased a small amount of carbon dioxide (dry ice). Drop your neoprene into the dry ice (-109.3 degrees Fahrenheit) for a couple of minutes. Use care and take in out with caution. It will freeze your fingers immediately if you don't. The neoprene will have shrunk small enough to drop the unit into place with not pushing at all. Give it a couple of minutes and it will come back to the original size and be tight in the bore. This works great!
A trick my dad shown me for twisting bushings was to put a bolt (undersized) through the clamp and cup (if cut out). Or a short extension put in a spacer socket backwards. Helps keep it indexed but still enough space for it to collapse a bit and seat itself.
I got stung on my leg by a wasp about 3 months ago. Took forever to heal over, and there's STILL a mark there. HATE them things! Shop truck after you fix that massive fuel leakage! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Go through it make sure its good to go, and give it to someone who needs it. With used trucks, and cars costing so much these days that would be a huge blessing to someone.
Ray, what you are doing to your truck is the right thing to do money and labor wise. You know what you have and it is capable of doing what you want to do with it. Looks good so far. I would repair the Dodge and donate to someone in need. Happy New Year to you and your family.
If you had a tall pole like the sign near the highway, put the truck up on a large display sign with your name and shop and info...a huge billboard. I always thought shops with a car up on a pole like that was pretty cool and caught my attention more than a printed sign ever does. Don't you love how wasps build nests in side mirrors? Mine get them every year no matter how much you drive it. I use to have a 2004 GMC SIerra Z71 extended cab step side with torsion bars. Nice to be able to adjust a bolt to lift it a little, plus they work great in rough offroad environments. Found myself many times going upwards of 60mph on a dirt road chasing the front of hunting buds to get in front of man drives or dog runs..and an emergency I had to get out of the woods while camping and my dad had a wreck (at 2am). Mechanic of mine replaced my bushings and used fire and torched it out...MURICA !! LOL. DIdn't realize how hard that was and he did it with the cab on up on a lift. GEESH. Mine he bottomed the bolt out then backed it off about 3 full turns and I got around 1 inch of lift, or level front to back from the front squat. Much easier to adjust...but that bushion and key...I don't think I paid him enough. LOL. Get well Justin and all of yall stay well and get rid of that flu bug...it's everywhere and pretty bad where I live, too. Cheers.
That bushing was whooping your ass Ray Ray lol. Those things are a PITA I've installed many of them over the years. Just keep on working and you eventually get it
Hey Ray, that's why people have to buy new trucks because the bushings in the old ones are almost impossible to replace. Looking forward to your next installment. Cheers!
I'm glad you're restoring your truck. People can restore whatever they want. It's their choice. I'm happy for you. I have a 2020 duramax 2500. Its a nice truck but expensive . Plus you are pre DEF lol
Definitely recommend repairing it and donating it to a person in need. Always good to watch people doing good, Alex over at legit street cars has done this quite a few times in the past and it’s enjoyable to watch
Definitely, or at least do something useful with it if it still runs well. I can only see destroying it if the engine is total trash.
Agreed
Definitely repair and donate, a good way to start a new year.

Puppy dogs make everybody’s day better.
The dogs were being very catlike in this opener.
"Yes, I see the food, and I see the open door. I'll wait until eating is MY idea, thanks."
Are those Ridgebacks?
In my opinion, make it road worthy, give it to a lady with kids whose husband left her. Much respect Ray. Blessings to you and your's 🙏
But what if the husband left cos she was a hoe
Or whose husband was necessary TO be left.
I had one of those fathers.
Doge wrapped and used as a shop truck. Many families in need would have more need for clothes/food than a two-seater truck. If it was a family car then maybe then but a two-seater truck would be harder to eat and stay warm with.

Have to remember also the stuck bushing and bearing race welding trick also.

I've used your idea...it works 😂

Make it a shop truck/parts getter/ courtesy vehicle...
I would like to see it brought it back to life and donated. Not only would someone be grateful, I think you would feel good about doing something really nice. Get well Justin.
The repair video and shop parts truck. The Ray's wrap would be cool.
I’ve always left the steel sleeves in from the old bushes just cleaned out the old rubber and slide the poly bush in
Us people up north would love a truck with no rust like that even a dodge !
I agree
Frame looks great Ray
Ray, I was just telling my wife that I don’t take any joy in watching you struggle with a part, but it makes me feel better when I struggle with a part, and helps me not to throw things 😂
Watching from Australia 🇦🇺.. Love all the videos.. Great work wife unit and family.. God bless
Always nice to see Lauren.
Fix the truck and donate it.
Good luck to Justine. I've been down for two weeks with the flu. Regiment of steroids and antibiotics. now into my third week and still fighting it. Now others in the family are coming down with it. Not easy to break. Nasty!
Get well soon Justin! And if there is a Justine out there who is also sick, same wishes to them.
29:53 Best joke of the new year! 😀 Happy New Years to the Wife Unit, puppers and the whole family!
Happy New Year, Ray, family, and Crew
Give a away or a shop truck. Whi knows. Charity or donation would work too
Definitely a shop truck.
Happy new year to you Ray's and your family and friends
Bought a 2007 Toyota Solara off my neighbor for a reasonable price. It's in pretty good shape, doesn't look like 18 years old. I went through the chassis not because anything was bad but because I had some time. Have done everything but front wheel bearings and lower control arms. 150k miles, drives better than new and oil changes at 500 miles. Oil comes out nearly as clean as when it went in. I've got a really decent car for about 20% of new. By the way it's the 3.3 V6 so it is probably going to carry me to my funeral.
Those darn waspers
Got stung by one of those red hornets on My hand...My whole arm blew up like a balloon 😂
Welcoming back!
I have found that walking away, take a break and go back at it works great in my shop!!
There are always people who are working very hard, but still have a very hard time getting ahead AND need a decent set of wheels. Maybe you can find someone like that who would appreciate it AND deserves a gift like that.
Get well Justin! and totally agree with the truck rebuild Ray. Derek from VGG would be proud of you :)
Wrap the truck and make it a shop truck for sure
G'day ray we love a good ute here in aus.
I'd love to see it working again and donated to a family who needs a new good ute/truck that has been repaired by the best mechanic in America.
Love all your content and work keep it up my friend
When you started the old bushing removal I said to myself, "that goes out the other way" and voila - it did! Those compact saws helped a lot in getting the old ones out. I struggled with you putting the new ones in, I kept twisting myself trying to help you get the right angle pushing them in (could you feel it? lol) Thanks for taking us along on this, my first torsion bar project viewing. Very educational.😊
And, as always, thanks for including a Lauren/WifeUnit cameo - and also the doggies too! Sorry to hear Jason's under the weather. Best to him.
To much mota
This reminds me of a meme I saw just today. It said "The day they were handing out patience, I left because they were taking too long".
Notification squad assemble! 🔧
Shop truck with bells and whistles. HAPPY NEW YEAR, RAY, AND FAMILY UNIT!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
A trick my dad shown me for twisting bushings was to put a bolt (undersized) through the clamp and cup (if cut out). Or a short extension put in a spacer socket backwards. Helps keep it indexed but still enough space for it to collapse a bit and seat itself.
Yeah Ray thats a good donation for a single family that can possibly start a small clean up ,lawn, our something like that of a business 😊
Feel better soon Justin, prayers to you bro!!!!!
Older trucks are worth more than today’s trucks. They were built better !
I had the same issue with lower A-arm bushings. After about an hour and a half, I found that a hole saw and a rotary bit worked great.
Boy installing those bushings where just brutal to watch.... man. You got the patience
Greetings: I do not remember having 2 go thru that BS on my 60s and 70s. Thx 4 the share.
Ray, what you are doing to your truck is the right thing to do money and labor wise. You know what you have and it is capable of doing what you want to do with it. Looks good so far. I would repair the Dodge and donate to someone in need. Happy New Year to you and your family.
That would make a great shop truck and a loaner vehicle for steady customers
You wouldn't have to borrow your wifes van anymore !!
Very entertaining, glad to see that pro mechanics some times have the same problems us shattered guys have. Also good on the Diddy lube flash.
Cheers.
When people ask what you upgraded on your truck you’ll just have to have them watch these videos cause wow!
I love hearing minion Ray. It cracks me up everytime.
I really wish I could have a truck for work , that would be a big help for my family and I here in the state of Maine
I recommend repair and donate or wrap it and make it a shop truck!
This Dirtymax is going to be EPIC
That dodge is nice. I had one with some rust. We gave it to our kid who used it start a roofing business. Give it to your younger employee 😊
