Thank you so very much for explaining everything step by step the way you do ,I'm divorced now and don't have a husband to change out my bedroom carpet which he had promised to do so 11 years ago , but now I'm going to change it and with all of your tips 😊 I feel very confident I can do this ! And most definitely very excited, also I've just painted my room so it's definitely a good change from the old to the new ! Thanks again, and God bless!!
Great channel. Sure would have tuck better with no 1/4 rnd. Noticed that you had your knife angled as you freehanded you seam edge. You must have hand cut down a backing row to avoid straight edging. Always use a power stretcher to stretch carpet taut. Knee kicker only for setting at walls Have you ever tried running a row on top for your seam edge? Works great. Displaces no yarn when properly executed.
I’ve been in construction for 20+ years and have never installed carpet. Thank you for this thorough explanation of all the techniques and tools required!
He’s a pro, like any pro he makes it look easy. It is not easy and I would not recommend this for a homeowner job. Eddie Van Halen makes playing guitar look easy yet most people cannot play as well as him on the first try.
Gonna be installing carpet in 3 bedrooms, myself, for the first time. Your video is great. I like the tips and the easy go commentary. Definitely think I can do it! Thanks bud!!
Thanks. Great explanation. I'm gonna re-carpet our 2nd floor (3 rooms and a hallway). Never done this before. Can I re-use the old tack strips (30 years old) or should I replace them? The old carpet is laid over plywood sub-floor so there's no wood floor to be damaged. Thanks again. Subscribed.
So what's carpet look like after a month cause you didn't you a power stretcher? I think it is a must im about to buy one but i believe it's best bet but will take longer
not necessary after you get paid to do the job an then you leave an it's not necessary because it's not ur house it's going in it's only business is why carpet is done like this
I agree to use a powerstretcher for anything over 12ft. But if it's super thick carpet I will power stretch it all day. Its was separates the hacks from the good installers
Is it important to have the floor trim installed beforehand? I'm re-doing my house and already pulled it all off. I planned to replace the trim with a different style. If I need to install the trim first, I'll have to postpone my carpet install, obviously, but what are the recommended dimensions for spacing the trim from the floor?
@@Anthonymayn in the past, I've had to go along the edge of the carpet right above the tack strip and lightly tap the carpet with a mallet or something to get the carpet to grab onto the tacks. Otherwise, I don't think it matters much if you do the trim after the fact.
And a tip for pad when matching up to hallways like that is put the new pad over the existing and flush and boom perfectly together.. not sure if I explained that good

No need to power stretch that carpet in, it's PET polyester and will need to be replaced soon anyways. Great job and great video with all the different angles!
Gold Coast Flooring | Carpet & Tile Care thank you and thanks for checking it out! I know there are a lot of die hard power stretching guys out there but in an 11x10 it’s a kickity kick for me!
The foam padding is essentially flush with the tack strips so the carpet lays OVER the tack strip and the kicker stretch’s the carpet while pressing the carpet down onto the tack strips
Part of me feels like I could totally do that the other part is like but I have OCD and any mistake would make me panic....I want so badly to carpet the livingroom, hall, coat closet and at least the kids bedrooms....but idk if I'm brave enough to do it myself, nor do I know who to commission to do it.
It looks like there is no baseboard on the walls. I would like to have new carpet installed without removing the existing baseboard. Any suggestions/comments?
Awesome and congrats! Not sure how many obstacles you’ll run into but: kicker, seam iron, knife, linoleum knife, tin snips, hammer and potentially an electric stapler will get you up and running
A knee kicker is not to stretch carpet, you need a power stretcher. Not a carpet pro. No stretcher, no wall trimmer, no straight edge or row cutter for the seam come on man.
Most DIY videos on TH-cam are amateur introduction unfortunately. You're absolutely correct and this carpet is bound to have issues with even light traffic over a year. I wish there were more experts on TH-cam but not many want to give away the trade.
Because before the advent of tack strip, carpet was tacked in with a staple gun. Thus the name “tack less” or tack strip. The name is interchangeable but it explained to installers of that era that they no longer need to use a tack gun.
You can vacuum all carpet doesn't matter on the seam. If its a berber or loop, pile make sure there isn't any lose fibers just snip it off otherwise the vacuum would catch it and snag the whole row

Do you need to use a carpet stretcher or is a knee kicker good enough?
Knee kicker will be all good if it’s a mid grade or lower. If you are working with some higher end you may want to pick up a stretcher

How far away from the wall should the tac strip be installed???
Basic rule is a fingertip away, but sometimes take into consideration the type and thickness of the goods. Peace
Thinking about adding carpet to a floor that has thin brick flooring. How would I add the tac strip?
In cases like that you can nail into the mortar lines or just glue them to the floor.
Get Roberts Smoothedge Peel & Stick tack strips. They work on wood and concrete.
Do you vacuum when you are done with the install? If so what vacuum do you use?

This guy nailed concrete tak on a wood floor without ringshanks in between the nails the strip will pull off the floor if properly stretched lol
Kicker is meant to get one end ontop the tac. A stretcher is needed for stretching as you can't stretch very well with a kicker.
