you should set up some metal shelving/racks to keep the logs/lumber off the ground so it wont rot just sitting there and set it up close to the lumber mill so you wont have far to go for it

Here in Arizona, for an outbuilding, you are not required to build with stamped lumber. You can saw the lumber used to build the outbuilding. I have drawings for a barn, I just don't have a sawmill yet.

Pool guys use a water level with is a piece of clear vinyl tubing full of water with one end submerged in a bucket and the other end in a person's hand whatever the water level in the bucket is you will have that same level in the end in your hand usually the length of the vinil tubing is 50 to 100 ft

My band wheel belts are just the oppisite. Tighter then a bullfrog butt stretched across a rain barrel. I get 500 to 700 hours on a set depending on how many bands I break and damage them. I've always been told they need to be tight. Been around band mills for 35 years. Interesting tid bit. I never owned a woodmizer so I am guessing that is specific to them.
You were talking about a forestry cutter in your live on Sunday. The guys at "Tennessee Skidsteer Supply" have one that will run on a standard flow Skidsteer, 75 hp and 20+ gpm, and will handle 8" trees. My cousin just picked one up and is enjoying it

Mike Morgan uses a laser transit when prepping the site to build on. You should ask him for this expert advice because you said you have never used one. He seems to be a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to construction.
In FL agriculturally zoned land allows any agri. structure to be built for non-occupied agri. use similar to Tenn., however the agri. zoning trumps all county, city, local, and HOA restrictions. I always pull a building permit with a sketch/drawing of new structure. It costs only $50. no inspections and informs county of authorized under state law of the additional building. The reason I mention this is that I think Tenn. state law regarding agricultural use land is similar to FL and probably also is primary and bars local county and cities from restricting your adding any agricultural structure. Why hasn't Wood-Mizer integrated a metal detector just forward of the blade that would simply stop forward progress and alert the operator of the metal? Your in tight with them so I know you could get the message to them. At near a hundred thousand dollar investment such and available add on would pale in comparison to down time and blade replacement. Always love your content, Sir.

If you’re thinking you might need a 50’ barn, build it, because if you build a 40’, and realize it’s not quite big enough, you’ll kick yourself for not going bigger. Plus it will cost more to add on than to build bigger to begin with.
1. I wonder why you don't keep a lower priced metal detector on hand to run over the suspect fence row low logs. Seem like it would save on blades. 2. Why do you keep the tires on the Woodmizer? They make great tires for small trailers. Seems to me a better us than just letting them dryrot on a mill you probably aren't going to move anytime soon.
Maybe if the land slopes off too much you can do a step down excavation and make your last bay a high bay for taller equipment or so you can put a beam hoist in 🤷 Good video 👍

Wow all them logs sure ruff looking like they been sitting in some famrmers field for 5 years rotting an full of bugs. Any saw mill here would rejet them as culs. It dont take long for the wood bettels get in to logs left sitting. You can spray them all you want but it never kills them as there already under the bark an into the wood. Suff like that not even good for fire wood once the bark fallin off unless they were pealed. Bon fire wood
I know you really don't want to but you really need to at least stack the lumber you have cut and stacked on your out feed area to get it out of the way. Maybe go ahead a stack it on some pallets in preparation to move to drying area or kiln.

Are those silver tip blades carbide or just some other coating/type of blade tip? I am guessing they are not carbide, or they may not notice the nails as much (based on Matt Cremona's comments on metal and carbide sawmill blades, not from personal experience).

I never see you sharpen the circular blade that runs along and cuts a path to clean out dirt so the bandsaw blade lasts longer. does it ever need to be sharpened.
Can't you get a metal detector and check your logs for metal? Wouldn't have helped with that ceramic insulator you found a while ago... but that's got to be a LOT less common that nails and the like.

Where I live in WI, the county government will let you do anything... (anything!) as long as you give them enough money. It really is all about money.

A level is much easier to use than a transit.

9/4. 2 1/4" thick. After drying, the 1/4" can be planned down to make it smooth and end up with 2" thick slab.
