I have tried all vegetarian recepies and this one is my favourite. When I was in Mumbai, India, I never made food by myself. Always ate what my mother made and she makes an amazing khichdi Kadi. Coming from a Gujarati family, I am aware how important it is to know this recepie. And you nailed it!! After settling to Canada, I started watching your Videos and actually started making food! I thought that even I can cook! However it was you and your teaching style that made so simple yet interesting to learn. By the way, I made this recepie and showed it to my mother. She was happy. Chef.....I followed this recipe with two small tweaks.....I added minced garlic and long cut green chilli in Khichdi....It was game changer added that simple but next level flavour....

Gujarati kadhi and khichdi is a comfort food for me as well. Perfect Gujarati kadhi is interplay of flavors like spicy, hot, sour, astringent and little sweet. During winter months, in my Gujarati home we put fresh yellow & orange haldi paste as well. It tastes totally different, but very tasty. I also like to have potato onion subzi which is made in a peculiar way , alongwith this Gujarati khichdi kadhi. This is light , nutritious evening meal. Sometimes, we make biscuit bhakri with this whole preparation.

To non gujaratis who don't know, you can use khatti chhas also for making kadhi. Also kadhi jitni ubalo utni tasty banti hai. Methi Daane aur adarak Mirch ka taste pak ke bahot khub aata hai. To Chef, you have made perfect kadhi khichdi and also you are eating it in perfect way like using your hands and not spoon and drinking kadhi directly from katori. If by mistake your kadhi becomes sour in taste, just add some more jaggery and some fresh malai.
We make kichidi but this kadhi is little different. Best taste comes out when we use hand to eat instead of spoon. You nailed it 😀.Thank you for sharing.
I remember we used to get this once a week for lunch in my Elementary school in Indore. The Kadhi even had long twisty pakoras. It was such a wholesome treat whenever i got to have it. There was a lit of Gujarati, Marathi, Rajasthani, and especially Malwa region influence in the food. I have some very found memories. The Cook was a Muscular Gujarati Uncle with a glorious moustache, who prepared food in a gigantic kadhai, and used a lath to rotate the food. I grew up eating a different kinda kadhi at home. It was heavier on besan and Pakoras, looking a lot yellower. I never quite got the same satisfaction whenever i had it tho. For me, Kadhi is the White Gujarati style. I prepared this recipe with the help of my mum, and it was a hit of nostalgia and emotions. It took me straight back to elementary school, having this kadhi and khichdi in a giant dining hall woth my friends. This one was extra special. I was able to relive that slice of childhood with this recipe. Thanks Sanjyot 🤍

I have some very found memories. The Cook was a Muscular Gujarati Uncle with a glorious moustache, who prepared food in a gigantic kadhai, and used a lath to rotate the food.
I grew up eating a different kinda kadhi at home. It was heavier on besan and Pakoras, looking a lot yellower.
I never quite got the same satisfaction whenever i had it tho. For me, Kadhi is the White Gujarati style.
I prepared this recipe with the help of my mum, and it was a hit of nostalgia and emotions.
It took me straight back to elementary school, having this kadhi and khichdi in a giant dining hall woth my friends.
This one was extra special. I was able to relive that slice of childhood with this recipe.

I'm a Gujarati, my favorites are mostly north Indian dishes and dosa/idli from the south, but Gujarati food has a unique charm of its own.
And often the ingredients are simply straightforward in dishes like khichdi, khaman, gathiya, etc..
