Arguably hands down most honest man in all of Olathe. He didn't want to hurt anybody. He didn't want to kill anybody. He didn't want to rape, cheat, or steal from anybody. All he wanted was a friend and nothing else in the face of the apocalypse, where most men would show there true madness from within. He was living proof that moral fiber could still exist in a world as dark and cynical as LISA's.

The sadest part of all of this is that Brad never really cared about him, or any of the other party members for that matter. (or maybe he did somewhat care about them but it was overshadowed by his paranoia and joy)
I think when you make the choice of losing a limb or your items is the choice of the player to see if Brad cares about them or not. I'm sure he does care about Olan, Terry, but obv Buddy is his main priority

Poor Terry. It's a shame I didn't use him much once I had 4 party members. My ending team was nern, harvy, and olan, so that final encounter HURT. On a side note, if you're planning on telling the story's of all our party members (or at least the ones with enough story to tell) that'd be rad as hell.

It is theorized that because Brad gains 0 Exp from the fight that he didn't kill them. This is reflected in another fight when you gain 0 exp and the person didn't actually die. Though it's not confirmed, I believe, it is an interesting thought that Brad took down his friends, but spared their lives.
Yeah, I've seen this before. It's a pretty compelling argument, and would fit in with Brad's derangement due to the effects of Joy. Brad's fights with Marty and Rando, both of whom are alive after their fight (Marty is killed in cutscene, Rando much later), don't give any experience which would back this up, but neither does his slaughter of the Rando Army who are most definitely killed. Kind of a mixed bag there. I thought I saw somewhere that the developer confirmed that all of the companions deaths are "canon", but the actual wording was "there is no canon final party". So, yeah the army at the end definitely did die. Oh well, regardless I personally love watching people play the game just for that moment. When you have to kill your own party. It's probably the most brutal moment of any video game I have every played. Especially with Terry, Carp, and Birdie.
I'm a year late but I believe that they are just hallucinations since: A) Why would they decide to stop you at the end? They saw him murder and destroy anything in his path and even helped him do it but once he reaches the end, when he is most powerful, then they try to stop him? They didn't that Buddy escaped to Rando island. B) How did they even get there? Brad used the boat to get there, leaving his party memebers behind, they wouldn't be able to get another boat in time to reach Brad before he saves her. C) If Brad gets there with no party members at all, he fights 3 entities called "Illusion of Friends" I believe it's Brad's mind way of getting rid of anything ("killing" his friends thus leaving them out of his mind forever) that isn't his inner desire (he starts transforming into a joy mutant at that Island), his inner desire is to be a good father to Buddy.
Probably the best character with that kind of stat growth. Those "weak at first but they get really good later on" kinds of characters tend to only really be that way in gameplay, but as terry levels up and becomes more useful, his personality grows as well. That's some grade A gameplay and story integration.
When Terry was at the top of that tree by the cliff, I couldn't help but to think that Terry was going to end it all at that cliff until the dog started chasing him. The balloon kind of makes it feel like that more too. He committed suicide in the demo, so it kinda makes sense that that would have been possible. Also, I know it sounds silly, but I feel like Terry developed a crush on Brad. Since he was so lonely for so long and suffered from deep depression, Terry latching on to someone so quickly could have developed into something more. In the demo, he also acted a little nervous around Brad and kept trying to impress him.
A few other people have pointed that out as well! I never considered that! I don't think it sounds silly at all. He definitely developed an infatuation with him, but I'm not sure they crossed into romantic feelings... Yep, I saw that stuff as well. His ending in the Demo is pretty dark too...

Terry is one of the single-most annoying side character that EVER grew on me to the point that I teared up when I had to fight him on my playthrough of a game...

Terry is such a good RPG character for beginners. Players have to figure out how to use him to benefit the team since his attacks are garbage when he joins.
Interesting thought, towards the end of Brad's journey, he inadvertently becomes a powerful warlord complete with a potentially sizable entourage of soldiers, some of which aren't there entirely willingly, while Buddy by contrast just goes around murdering all the other warlords only to either end up a monster or throwing it all away for her health and future. Brad had purpose and power, whereas Buddy is still a listless child so Brad became a warlord, albeit a tragic one, and Buddy comes to her senses or essentially dies trying.

I would like to say it's ambiguous if he dies at the end or not. At that point, brad is completely unreliable as a person we play through as Joy ravages his mind. You get in a fight with shadows if all of your friends are dead. It's entirely feasible they never made it to him and that he's hallucinating, especially since the army doesn't acknowledge what he did. The game is pretty damn clever in keeping track of what you've done as well too, so I bet sure as shit they'd comment on it if that actually happened. Terry could be alive... for better or worse.
There's a theory that the fight against the party at Rando Land is all a figment of Brad's imagination. If you dont know, if you have less than 3 party members before you leave for Rando Land, the missing party members are replaced by a unique enemy called "Illusion of Friend." This implies the party members are all illusions from Brad's mind and it symbolizes him cutting off all other relations in pursuit of his warped mission. I really hope this is the case, because even though it's still sad, it means Terry is still alive, at least from what we know.
I liked the video except for one part. You mention that Brad killed his friends and, "...felt nothing as he did so." I know that this game is largely open to interpretation, but I feel like the statement you made is objectively false. Throughout the entire series of fights with Rando's army, you can get all sorts of "flavor text" about Brad crying out of pain, sorrow, and rage. As he's going through that final sequence, Brad experiences a wide array of negative emotions, and God only knows what he would've felt when his friends betrayed him. Anyways, I'm glad you covered the topic (and I've really enjoyed your videos on Hotline Miami), but I feel like too many people are too quick to judge Brad. I earnestly think he did the best he knew how to do (especially considering the influence of joy), and it's not like using Buddy as a means to save the Earth is a air-tight plan. I mean, if you want horrible amounts of genetic mutation and deformity, you can try kickstarting the human race with one set of female dna that will be passed down to all her daughters (assuming she has any). If I recall, you need something like 20 pairs of people or 10 couples (or something like that) in order to ensure enough genetic diversity that you don't breed into a literal dead end. I DIGRESS. The video was good, I'd like to see more videos like this, but please SOMEONE out there tell me I'm not the only one that thinks Brad isn't a bad guy?!? Hell, I don't even think he did the wrong thing. I honestly feel like I would've done the same in his shoes.

As for the first point, I can definitely see where you're coming from, but I would argue that Brad is so far into the throes of Joy Addiction that the only thing that mattered to him was getting Buddy, and anything else didn't/wouldn't prompt an emotional response from him. But at the same time, since he's supposed to be our link to the game world, the things we're feeling are likely what he's feeling, so that could give some insight as to what he's feeling. I would agree with you assessment of Brad: he did the best of what he knew how to do. I would like to think, under different circumstances (No Joy), Brad would have let Buddy go, and let her live her life. But that's not what happened... Again, thanks for watching! Terry is one of my favorite party members in the Lisa the Painful game as well as one of my favorite characters in the series!
Terry truly embodies the power of surpassing ones flaws and becoming stronger through companionship (If you could even call his relationship with Brad “companionship”...)

Terry is such a good RPG character for beginners. Players have to figure out how to use him to benefit the team since his attacks are garbage when he joins.
Interesting thought, towards the end of Brad's journey, he inadvertently becomes a powerful warlord complete with a potentially sizable entourage of soldiers, some of which aren't there entirely willingly, while Buddy by contrast just goes around murdering all the other warlords only to either end up a monster or throwing it all away for her health and future. Brad had purpose and power, whereas Buddy is still a listless child so Brad became a warlord, albeit a tragic one, and Buddy comes to her senses or essentially dies trying.

I would like to say it's ambiguous if he dies at the end or not. At that point, brad is completely unreliable as a person we play through as Joy ravages his mind. You get in a fight with shadows if all of your friends are dead. It's entirely feasible they never made it to him and that he's hallucinating, especially since the army doesn't acknowledge what he did. The game is pretty damn clever in keeping track of what you've done as well too, so I bet sure as shit they'd comment on it if that actually happened.
Terry could be alive... for better or worse.

Terry is my favorite party member in the game
There's a theory that the fight against the party at Rando Land is all a figment of Brad's imagination. If you dont know, if you have less than 3 party members before you leave for Rando Land, the missing party members are replaced by a unique enemy called "Illusion of Friend." This implies the party members are all illusions from Brad's mind and it symbolizes him cutting off all other relations in pursuit of his warped mission. I really hope this is the case, because even though it's still sad, it means Terry is still alive, at least from what we know.

I liked the video except for one part. You mention that Brad killed his friends and, "...felt nothing as he did so." I know that this game is largely open to interpretation, but I feel like the statement you made is objectively false. Throughout the entire series of fights with Rando's army, you can get all sorts of "flavor text" about Brad crying out of pain, sorrow, and rage. As he's going through that final sequence, Brad experiences a wide array of negative emotions, and God only knows what he would've felt when his friends betrayed him.
Anyways, I'm glad you covered the topic (and I've really enjoyed your videos on Hotline Miami), but I feel like too many people are too quick to judge Brad. I earnestly think he did the best he knew how to do (especially considering the influence of joy), and it's not like using Buddy as a means to save the Earth is a air-tight plan. I mean, if you want horrible amounts of genetic mutation and deformity, you can try kickstarting the human race with one set of female dna that will be passed down to all her daughters (assuming she has any). If I recall, you need something like 20 pairs of people or 10 couples (or something like that) in order to ensure enough genetic diversity that you don't breed into a literal dead end.
I DIGRESS. The video was good, I'd like to see more videos like this, but please SOMEONE out there tell me I'm not the only one that thinks Brad isn't a bad guy?!? Hell, I don't even think he did the wrong thing. I honestly feel like I would've done the same in his shoes.

As for the first point, I can definitely see where you're coming from, but I would argue that Brad is so far into the throes of Joy Addiction that the only thing that mattered to him was getting Buddy, and anything else didn't/wouldn't prompt an emotional response from him.
But at the same time, since he's supposed to be our link to the game world, the things we're feeling are likely what he's feeling, so that could give some insight as to what he's feeling.
I would agree with you assessment of Brad: he did the best of what he knew how to do. I would like to think, under different circumstances (No Joy), Brad would have let Buddy go, and let her live her life. But that's not what happened...
