Imo as a former opioid addict they were (at least initially) based on either 30mg Roxicets or 60mg Oxys. These have been the most common opiate pills on the street. The sky blue color is spot on for both of them, the high giving strength (mental strength IRL), the terrible withdrawals & how ppl "transform." I think from there a wonderful back story formed for the Joy. Love this game. I began the process of quitting too when my daughter was born so this story holds a special place for me.

The fishman in the joylab doesn't necessarily mean he got to being a fishman by taking joy. As far as I know, the fishmen are a race with unexplained background. It could just be the fishman in the joylab was taken captive to see what would happen when the fishmen species was to take joy. Since his appearance didn't change much, it was named repulsive waste, as in no use for the plan. This would explain why Carps damage output doesn't change when suffering from withdrawal. Although Carps bio and description say he's merely a guy with a fish mask. He was a caretaker for orphan children earlier and the mask was his sign of showing the children to not fear being judged, since the children made fun of it and he didn't mind.
Edplosion Carp is actually most likely a fishman due to his fondness for the green paste which are one of the fishmans food. Also, he clearly doesn’t talk until the end instead he makes fishman noises, he may have been a mutation since only his head is affected and the description of his head is questioning if he is a fishman

Believe it or not....I think this game could be incredibly therapeutic to addicts. Not only do they have a game to keep them mentally occupied, but it's definitely going to strike a chord....trust me.
Literally in that situation now. I had been sober 7 years and relapsed on these shitty fake blues that are on the streets these days. They look just like joy pills. I played Lisa from 7 pm to about 12 pm, normally in that period of time I’d have smoked 2-3 pills. But when I’m invested in Lisa, I look up and notice hours have passed, and I only used one to end the night. I’ve been lowering my dosage - but quitting is harder now than ever before
In a fangame called LISA The Vegaful, one of the possible party members you can recruit is a joy addict, he turns into a mutant when he gets hit with a Permakill move
Carp also speaks when you bring him to the end of the game.. Edit: Are you mentioning hopeful and pointless? That would so cool to see, but a hell of pain to talk about hopeful's endings
Would recommend you try them both. Pointless is a solid game, it's not my cup of tea personally for a variety of reasons but it's still a good game. I really, really like Hopeful though. I think it's really great.
The way joy mutations work is similar to mosnters form Home sweet home comic and that manga where alien frogs rained from the sky transforming people into monsters based on their desires. But unlike in Lisa the monsters from those comics show what that desire was by their design. In Home sweet home there was a translucent monster who was a guy who wanted to be alone

So, funny thing. My own father is a lot like Brad: a drug addict with a troubled childhood who cares deeply for his family. Despite how he loves his family, the grip of addiction holds him tight, and drives him to do immensely reckless things in pursuit of his next fix. Okay, that's not so funny, but I find dark humor in the coincidence. There's another notable similarity between the two. My father's drug of choice, or at least, one of them, is methamphetamines. One day my mother was telling me of his exploits, and mentioned that she talked to one of his acquaintances who had given him "blues". Small, blue-colored pills of the substance. So, despite Joy's fictitious nature, its form parallels that of a real drug. Maybe it's even based on it. However, I doubt a game developer would go to such length unless they have personal experience with it of their own.
Sorry to hear that! I hope your father can find his way out of the throes of his addiction so he can enjoy the love of his family. I know it may sound harsh, but I hope you look at him as a warning of drug addiction and never fall into it yourself. Another freaky thing about Joy is there’s apparently a supplement that’s being sold that is literally called Joy Pills that are supposed to increase your mood. Lol.

When you eat the spaghetti that has Pearl Jam in it, your sore shoulder will begin to itch until you're scratching your skin and muscle away, but then it regrows and you're not sore anymore. It's a lot like you described. A substance that causes those who ingest it great pain before they're rewarded with being cured of their ailments.

Some have theorized that Yado artificially created Buddy, seeing as she's vital to his plan. Create an outsider who needs to prove themselves to the world. In doing so, Buddy eliminates all of Yado's competition (the warlords).

I got game on epic game store like in this week. (I mean that week from 25.04.24) and yesterday passed a first and today second game. I feeled from start that joy is too weird and bad, even passed both games not single time using those pills. Much i can say that is really weird games, what I have hooked on because of being "weird". For me, is just a good story telling. Which is hitting on decisions harder than handless Brad.

Love the design of the mutants, reminds me a lot of the silent hill monsters mixed in with the necromorphs of dead space.

One thing that is never mentioned in games is how much joy is needed to become addicted and how much to become a joy mutant.
That is true, but I would assume it wouldn't be very much, much like addictive drugs in the real world!

So, funny thing. My own father is a lot like Brad: a drug addict with a troubled childhood who cares deeply for his family. Despite how he loves his family, the grip of addiction holds him tight, and drives him to do immensely reckless things in pursuit of his next fix.
Okay, that's not so funny, but I find dark humor in the coincidence. There's another notable similarity between the two. My father's drug of choice, or at least, one of them, is methamphetamines. One day my mother was telling me of his exploits, and mentioned that she talked to one of his acquaintances who had given him "blues". Small, blue-colored pills of the substance.
So, despite Joy's fictitious nature, its form parallels that of a real drug. Maybe it's even based on it. However, I doubt a game developer would go to such length unless they have personal experience with it of their own.
Sorry to hear that! I hope your father can find his way out of the throes of his addiction so he can enjoy the love of his family. I know it may sound harsh, but I hope you look at him as a warning of drug addiction and never fall into it yourself.
Another freaky thing about Joy is there’s apparently a supplement that’s being sold that is literally called Joy Pills that are supposed to increase your mood. Lol.

Really sucks there's are nothing about the "Flash." I'd love to figure out what happened to all the women, and where buddy came from, and who got her pregnant.

Some have theorized that Yado artificially created Buddy, seeing as she's vital to his plan. Create an outsider who needs to prove themselves to the world. In doing so, Buddy eliminates all of Yado's competition (the warlords).
@@Bacxaber One of the endings is Yado talking to his wife that "Nancy" (aka Buddy) was the key to taking over. Yado's wife is then shot with Yado saying she's no longer needed. Buddy is Yado and his wife's child biologically.
We don't know if Nancy was Buddy, or if Nancy was Sweetie the mutant though.

I got game on epic game store like in this week. (I mean that week from 25.04.24) and yesterday passed a first and today second game. I feeled from start that joy is too weird and bad, even passed both games not single time using those pills. Much i can say that is really weird games, what I have hooked on because of being "weird". For me, is just a good story telling. Which is hitting on decisions harder than handless Brad.

I wasn't planning on it originally, but a lot of people are requesting it, so I'm seriously considering it now. That along with the Hopeful. Big thing holding me back from the Pointless though is the fact that it's not done yet. I hear the "Monster Update" had "story updates", and I would hate to make a video that would eventually have outdated information since the creator decided to change things. I'd prefer to tackle it when it's finished. Idk! We'll see!
