      To be fair though, it is keeping in line with the theme of Phyrexian theming. They destroy, they use every single drop of something, there is just contagion or in their case, reproduction. Their oil is unnatural, mutagenic, and corrupting. Annihilator existed as a keyword at this time, the choice to not give it the keyword creates the appearance that this was not like the destruction by Eldrazi, but instead something different. Infect (Poison), Oil, Phyrexian Mana, most Phyrexian cards themselves all incur some cost to grow stronger.

      AI-generated script? Also, Terravore seems like the _opposite_ of what this video was supposed to be about, since it's a pre-Modern card that was not good, but is now good. Which would make sense if the script was AI-generated.

  • @CGA003
    @CGA003 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +52

    Dude whoever wrote your script definitely did not read Phyrexian Obliterator right. Obliterator's ability works when *either player* deals damage to it, not just its controller deals damage to it. It is an infinitely stronger card than negator. If your opponent attacks you with a 5/5 while you have obliterator out, and all they have is one creature and four lands, they will have to sacrifice all those creatures and lands when obliterator blocks and takes damage. If an opponent casts Blasphemous Act while you control Obliterator, they'll have to sac 13 permanents.
    It's one of the most threatening creatures in the entire game if it gets on the battlefield and the quad black mana cost is to make it next to impossible to splash into colors outside of black. Calling them "essentially the same card" is so, *so* objectively incorrect, that I can't fathom a logical explanation for that statement other than just not reading the card properly.

  • @OneOfThePetes

    You listed the wrong set of legend rules for the time Lin Sivvi was dominating. When she was printed, the rule was "If your opponent had a legendary creature out and you tried to play one, your copy and only your copy would just go to the graveyard instead." This made mirror matches ten times worse as it was just a race to see who could get their copy out first, as it locked the other guy from playing theirs. They changed the rules after that.

    • @stigmaoftherose
      @stigmaoftherose 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Technically the original legend rule stated you can't cast the spell at all if the legendary is already on the field.

    • @Myky44kinwai
      @Myky44kinwai 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stigmaoftheroseyou can still cast it, but the legend rule will make you sacrifice it. Essentially, the copy to first be played will remain.
      This was the use of Unnatural Selection, by changing duplicate copies of a creature into Legend, forcing the controller to sacrifice all but one.

    10:58 You remove 3 counters from Saproling burst to swing for 12 immediately because the counters' Power/toughness are equal to the number of fading counters on sap burst. 6 damage from 6 bodies would be a poor use of the card in most cases.

    Your description of the way Psychatog was used is incorrect. The best (World Championship winning) way to use it was to control the game until you had enough mana to cast both Upheaval and Psychatog (preferably with counter backup). You would float all your mana, resolve Upheaval, then cast your Psychatog. The result would be bouncing all of your (and opponent's) permanents, overfilling your hand and causing you to discard down to 7. This would fill your graveyard while subsequently clearing your opponent's board. You pass turn, they play one land and next turn you exile your graveyard for a massive Psychatog swing.

    19:49 is that correct? If i remember well, during Mercadian Masques, the legend rule was different.When a Legend was in play, any new copy of that card entering the battlefield would get destroyed, while the first version would stay in play. So your Lin Sivvin was not a kill spell for the opponent's Lin Sivvi.
    Matches were a rush to get a Lin sivvi out and keep her in play. That is why bad removal spells like last Last Breath where played. To remove the opponent's Lin Sivvi.

    • @dark_rit
      @dark_rit 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm hazy on the legend rule back then, but I did know that at one point it was you couldn't even cast or play a legend that was already in play. So even if you had no cheap artifacts to fuel tolarian academy for example just playing it denied the opponent the ability to play academy, which was pretty good back then. I'm guessing it was the same for Lin Sivvi, who was the best way to win the rebel mirror.

    I miss the old days of casual magic before the internet and just generic optimized decks only. I had an old deck that I built for our casual games after school. Green infect/poison creatures with combat tricks like giant growth but the noteworthy way that the deck kept itself safe and allowed me to attack every turn was running briar patch, thunderstaff and sun droplet. Basically made it so unless they had a giant bomb creature, I either took no damage or minimal damage and since our games had 4-6 people, sun droplet was huge life gain. Even moreso with 2 or 3 in play. One of our group always played burn and another always played artifact modular with a trike and sword of kaldra. So I'd lose some creatures but they'd struggle to finish me off as even the direct burn gave me life back over time. I miss those days though, go to your local card shop and pick through the random boxes for upgrades. I wonder if sun droplet, briar patch and thunderstaff are even viable any more.
