I'm surprised Kumano Faces Kakkazan wasn't so much as mentioned. It's a 1 mana saga that buffs a creature on the chapter 2 and becomes a creature that exiles any creature your opponent loses on 3 Edit: Wow. I didn't expect this to blow up
I feel like this list in general underrates the power of the NEO transform Sagas. Much like Adventures before them, every single design was a built-in 2-for-1 that generated upfront advantage and then still demanded a removal spell for the threat it ended on.
@@yejifanboy1981 Eh, I can't really feel that way. It's really good, but it never feels overwhelmingly powerful. I'd rather see some of the awful board clears like sunfall and farewell get either nerfed or banned in standard.
you said Wizards probably intended the Akroan war to work differently, but I doubt it, because the theme works this way. It is based on the story of the Trojan war, what most people know from the Illiad, the war was caused by the abduction of Helen, who was originally married by the Spartan King Menelaus, but because of Gods' bs, she was taken from him and given to this other trojan dude as his bride, which caused the war. At the end, Menelaus takes Helen back and they return to Sparta. So, taking the creature is the abduction, forcing the attack is the war, and the final chapter is representing of the casualties of the war, but Helen survives and goes back to her husband, so it makes sense that the creature returns to the oponent
When I started playig MTG Arena during Kamigawa Neon Dynasty I thought that Sagas were the coolest cards in the world. Bro look at these animations, I have a scroll! 3 effects from one card? Bro this must be so good :D
One saga I've fell in love with lately is the restoration of eijango. In a mono white small guys deck, it does so much. Got a extra land you want to play? Discard it and bring it back! Got a Heliods punishment you need to put on a target with hexproof? Discard it and bring it back! Your impassioned orator got murked? Discard some junk and bring it back! It's sooooooo good.
I REALLY like the design space of Sagas. Has Wizards misstepped with them? Sure. But I really like the card type -- it offers a lot of interesting design space. The Elder Reborn is still a great swiss army knife for black Commander decks without being too competitively costed.
Minor missed detail about The Akroan War is that it's very good in vehicle aggro decks. RG stompy with the vehicles Esika's Chariot, Smuggler's copter, and Skysovereign could really use the full effect of The Akroan War by tapping the stolen creature by crewing a vehicle during the trigger and either give back a tapped creature or kill the creature with the War's third ability.
My favorite memeroy of Limited was a Theros: Beyond Death draft where I somehow got 3 copies of Kiora bests the sea god so my whole draft deck basically just revolved around stalling until I could play those

Just gonna say, you're one of my favorite MTG TH-camrs out there. The concise and knowledgeable lists are one of my highlights of my day. Bless you, and may your work continue in fruition.
Urzas Saga is one of my most favourite cards in Magic (and i bet its will be the Nr. 1 Spot :P ). It has so much flavour, its one of the most versatile Cards and its not really strong enough to be considered being broken. A super well designed Card and the Saga mechanic overall is one of my all time favourite Mechanics ever added to a TCG or CCG.
12:26 Also saw play in Legacy for quite a while until stuff like Stone of Erech became more popular. Bosh n Roll has a lot of lists with it. Why no Kumano, Gix or Eldest? Those were very good last I checekd
Kiki-jiki is one of my favorite cards, it's just so interesting to me in terms of flavor and the obvious strength, it should definitely stay banned though
I like your top... except for top 5 and 3. Hidetsugu is an answer as a sideboard, impossible to put it in top 10 and Akroam's war was very played but it's not better than other sagas in this top. It's an error not to include in top 3 one of the best sagas... Kumano saga played in mono red decks in every single format. Then, I would include Eiganjo's restoration and Elspeth's nightmare... and for me Kiki Jiki is n°1 and Urza is 2nd.
Eh, Hidetsugu is literally played in every single B/R sideboard at least as a 1 of in pioneer, modern and some times even legacy or vintage. The matches that it's good in it completely DESTROYS them. No other saga is able to utterly dominate matches and turn them around like it's able to, so I think it's actually worthy of the spot. Even in standard it has the ability to crush boros convoke any other deck that relies on tokens or graveyards.
@@tonysmith9905 Back when I played MTG Arena, it was amongst my favorite cards in Kamigawa. I tried to make it work so bad but problem is, it is a dead card in the format I was trying to make it work: Standard B01 and HB. But oh boy when I saw the card I knew it was busted.
@@scales8768 It was never a bo1/main deck card though. If you want a shell for it try running a copy of it with Beseech the Mirror in bo1. You might survive against convoke long enough for it to take over since you'd need to get to turn 4 for Beseech. Against Roots and other decks you should definitely live long enough.
