  • Turtle Wax ICE Seal N Shine has set the bar when it comes to protection on a retail level. TAC Moonlight is a favorite here at the shop when it comes to bridging the gap between sealants and coatings. Today, we put them on the same panel and let them battle it out!. Let's get this done Apex Style!!!
    Turtle Wax Seal N Shine....www.amazon.com...
    Turtle Wax Seal N Shine Seals the surface, providing durability and protection for months. Even after multiple washings.
    Infused with premium carnauba wax for brilliant shine
    Transforms the exterior to a super hydrophobic surface that causes water to simple bead up and roll off preventing water spots and dulled appearance
    Reduces dry time after car washings
    TAC Moonlight.....www.tacsystemu...
    Moonlight is an oil-based topical maintenance coating, containing 25% SiO2. Moonlight lasts up to 9 months while greatly enhancing gloss to vehicle surfaces. While primarily used as a topper to SiO2 coatings, Moonlight functions as a highly durable stand alone coating. A deep gloss with SiO2 protection that lasts up to twice as long as traditional waxes and sealants, Moonlight helps vehicles maintain that ‘just detailed’ look

    I use both extensively in my detailing business, but for different applications. TW S&S is tough to beat for general paint protection, especially for the money. It is a goto for production detailing. I reserve Moonlight for trim and tonneau covers, etc. Brian, I recall a while back you responded to a question about a dressing and it seems you said, "only Moonlight does what you are looking for" or something to that effect. That stuck in my head and tried Moonlight on trim and vinyl to my delight. But how long does it last? To keep an eye on a test, after doing a maintenance wash on my neighbor's Grand Cherokee, I used Moonlight on his textured black exterior trim. The wheel arch trim was done on June 14 and now we are four months in, the trim looks the same as it did on June 14, 2020. A water based product would not have lasted until the end of the month, and less if it rained.
    Moonlight is relatively expensive (especially now having to get it from a Canadian vendor, or via Korea on eBay. The latter being even more costly mostly due to shipping) and I use it on all trim for my higher value jobs. I view Moonlight as the perfect trim dressing between the water-based VRP, Perl, etc and IGL Trim which I use when doing a ceramic coating job. BTW, Gyeon Cancoat approximates Moonlight, but it does not quite have that oily nature of Moonlight, but it does work about as well and is easier to get. The US needs a proper TACSystem distributor. Supposedly, TAC is the originator of ceramic coatings but you would never know it from their PR, or lack thereof. Just ordered two bottles from Canada. There really is no substitute, at least how I use it.

    • @adamcoe
      @adamcoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been looking for a longer term protectant for my tonneau and I may have just found it. Been loving Perl on it but as you mention, virtually any water based product has limits to its longevity. I certainly didn't mind re-applying Perl once a month (less often if your vehicle is kept inside), as it's pretty cost effective given how much you can dilute it; but I've been sort of on the hunt for something that would last a couple of months. Will definitely keep Perl as my interior go-to product, but I might give Moonlight a go for exterior trim.
      Ever try it on tires? I assume it would work quite well if it's good on tonneaus but I wonder that being that it's not "designed" for tires it might sling a little perhaps. Or not?

    This is not proper test to cure protection 24h after testing Moonlight and Seal N Shine. Moonlight have chemical resistance after 7 days of fuly cure. Its good to put panel on sunlight at least for full 3 days or under UV light for 20+ minutes and than do that test again. Seal N Shine its low cost product with very good protection for winter, fast aplication, but for more sporty cars I recommend Moonlight. Car looks like new, gloss is epic and anfter second coat depth of color its much better. 250ml its for 15 cars of minimum aplication or 8-10 in 2 coats . But you have to wait 24h after second coat on Moonlight. 9/10 to Moonlight , SnS 8/10 .

All the automobile products out there being compared in your videos and others youtubers, I don’t hear anyone mentioning anything whether the products have UV protectant against paint fading. We are all more interested in glossiness & beading effects and how long they last. Do all those products have UV protectant inhibitors especially the one I’m interested in is TW Ice Seal & Shine?

    So what you saying is, If i want to do some paint correction on some swirls or scratched that has occurred lets say, 2 months after applying Tac sytems, Then I would have to wash it like 20 times before I can get the protection off and then only can I correct? as from what I understand, you need completely clear paintwork to correct?

    Way too much SnS was applied it's supposed to be a light coating . If over applied it will leave a streaks ,says so on the bottle. To remove extra , wipe with a damp towel. I believe SnS would be the same if not have a better shine then ML. I think a retest is in order .

  • @roscopervis
    @roscopervis 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've probably said this before, but Seal N' Shine has amazing chemical resistance. However, mechanical durability is a different thing. Just staying on the car for time will also affect the protection. Sonax BSD has really good chemical resistance yet only lasts about 2 months on the car in real world conditions, where other products with less chemical resistance last much longer side by side.
    I wonder how much mechanical durability Seal n' Shine has - how long will it last on the car in real world conditions? I have some and I'm trying it out. It will be a few months I expect.

    • @matiusteddyc.856
      @matiusteddyc.856 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Any suggestions what product with great mechanical durability?

    • @roscopervis
      @roscopervis 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@matiusteddyc.856 you would want something that is more resinous - real world coatings with real solids like Can Coat, Synergy Lite etc will have mechanical durability. The spray sealants, even ones that say they are ceramic (but in reality just have a very tiny amount of it) are typically too thin and the bond they create cannot be maintained for long enough to provide long term mechanical durability. It depends on how easy you want the application to be?
      With any product, the less you wash it, the longer it will last. The act of washing a car, using chemicals and then abrading the paint with wash mitts, weakens the chemical and mechanical durability of products much more than not washing it, particularly if the weather is good and the car isn’t covered with traffic film and road salt. That means, cars that are washed less, to a point, will have their protection last longer as their products mechanical durability will be increased.

      @@jusb1066 the coating was not left to dwell long enough before removing and there wasn't enough applied either. When the coating is applied, you should be able to see a change in color while it is flashing. Similar to oil on water. Normal dwell time is 3-5 mins before removing. Proper bonding is not achieved if this critical step is missed. Additionally, 24hrs is not long enough for complete curing. These are also not the same products to compare properly. Different ingredients

    Good review Brian but In the real world, I am pretty confident moonlight would out last S&S.
