Great idea for a vid. Weird that your most common was gta 4 as I found 5 way more. Best find was link to the past on snes, got that with 2 ps3 controllers and a few Wii remotes for £20
Nice work. Best find this season was a promo copy of fatal inertia on 360, paid 50p, sold on ebay for £100. Best find I traded in, paid £60 for a box of 3ds/ds games, sold 5 on ebay to get my money back and traded the rest in for £200 voucher. All crap kids games but had some surprising value, they just wouldn't of sold online. Best voucher buy, haunting ground on ps2, paid £95, it's £135 now. I've still got stuff I could trade in, mostly hardware, but I like collecting controllers and handhelds so unless I'm really going for something I'm happy to keep them for now. I don't track my trades and spend but I'd estimate I spent about £400 and got £1500 in vouchers. Cos I got a bunch of games to add to the collection and I tend to go for the more expensive £50+ title I don't wona pay cash for. As well as controllers, a ps1 arcade stick and some wireless earbuds this year. I've got 2 things in mind to go for next year, 2 heavy hitting items, so that'll be my aim when 2025 rills around.
Nice, yeah that game flew up in value, remember when it was £3 at CEX. That's awesome, car boots are still an amazing place to build a collection on the cheap and good to have goals
My best Carboot Find in terms of Retro Game Collection are Probably the PSP i got for 10 euros(i just need to buy the battery and charge) and the Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C Game on ps2. (which now cex has listed as a PS2 Rarity). I found a few other deals but in terms of how much i spent vs how much they are worth those 2 are probably my best finds. I had better deals from FB Marketplace and My local Charity shops and local second hand markets. We still got 2 1/2months left than il see if they remain my best finds.
I’d be interested to know how much the stuff you bought would have cost if you picked it up from eBay. I only ask because there is no doubt this was worth it, but let’s face it cex is overpriced a lot of the time which is why trade amounts can seem high but that forces you into the “cex economy” where your actually paying way more for stuff than you can routinely buy it elsewhere (I know you have 2 year warranty but that’s a bit more convoluted than people realise) Just using phones as an example cex have been known to often want 200+ more than the average selling price 2nd hand. Again no doubt at all this would have been worth your while and let’s face it if you sold the stuff yourself you would have done better because if cex are selling something for £50 and it’s £30-35 on eBay and your netting all of that less fees Just comes down to if someone did a “spending 3k on eBay vs cex buying video games” I think they would end up with significantly more stuff on the eBay side
It's funny you say that, I have a video in the works talking about this as it's something I noticed researching for another video. But yes there can sometimes be a difference in price between cex and eBay.
Yeah agree with one of the comments, my fave carboot gaming channel, Keep it up mate!
Cheers mate for the kind words, got plenty more coming up ✊
