I don't think its going to happen at this point. That isn't to say that he isn't a great player though.
The whole problem with Havertz is that he does SO much amazing work thats just invisible. The reason so many managers keep using him is because he creates things whilst never even being on the ball, his movement is insanely good, his constantly dragging defenders and midfielders away from where they want to be and in the modern game, thats so important because system work due to everyone being where they should be. The problem is, he doesn't get the goal, he doesn't get the assist so if we win, people say he didn't do anything, and if we lose his the first to be blamed.

You know what i really love about this new box midfield? Its as if Arteta got really tired about all those people that kept hammering about how they need a new no.9, he created a whole new system that gets rid of that position completely, and it worked 😂🤣🤣
And what’s so cool about this is that it still brings so much out of every one within the system. This way of playing is perfect against opponents who will have more ball than the low blocks we usually play against.
People always say that Arteta doesn’t have a plan B, but he obviously does. We have this for when we play City and Liverpool and it works brilliantly.
it really depends on the defenders taking the bait and trying to attack the middle box. If someone man marks Oodegaard or Haavertz in a 6 role the attack has to go to the wings, and the lack of a real 9 will tell. Lots of crosses and not a single finisher. The top scorer from lofted crosses at Arsenal is actually Gabriel Maghalaes, a defender.
@@SantomPh Sure, but that would also open up Zinny/Jorgi/Rice to play balls out wide and let Saka and Martinelli challenge full backs 1v1 which no team in the whole league would willingly let us do.
And Havertz’s movement for the first goal actually shows perfectly why man marking him doesn’t work all that well because he moved in such a large area of the pitch that if you pull one player to just try to take him out, you open up space in the middle anyways for Ødegaard to hop into and play facing towards goal and he’s brilliant in those types of spaces to combine with Saka. So it’s really hard to play against the sort of style we used at the weekend (if you intend to actually play football yourself and not just sit in a low block) because all of he things that would normally be good, logical defensive choices for those players to make, simply don’t work.
Look very carefully at how all the Liverpool players act for the first goal. All of them actually make traditionally good choices but the problem is that it’s too easy to lose track of who needs to do what when there’s nobody in the middle. The CB’s then start looking at attacking Ødegaards position but by then it’s already too late because MacAllister has dropped aggro on Havertz as he returns to the middle area because he thinks the CB’s will handle it, but Van Dijk is already trying to step up to Ødegaard (since he’s the most dangerous player in that split second) and then boom. There’s a goal.
@@SantomPh yeah but that's ok. Saka and Martinelli are really good at wearing down full backs in 1v1s. They struggle when they're doubleteamed. But if Haverz and Ode are man marked that makes doubleteaming the wingers difficult. It's about adaptation
@@SantomPh as long as Martinelli/Saka are wide enough one of the two CD wil want to commit/follow , remember Harvetz come from front to join the mid, its hard not to track him and once you loose a straight line on final line then its game on , or even lets just say for argument sake both CBs decide not to take the bait, then the "now" box-mid can put the ball through between Rb and RCB or Lb and LCB which would be even trick to defend considering the pace of Martinelli and Saka physical presence when running into the box, I think you rather commit than not as CBs😄

As a Liverpool fan I was nervous about this game going in. In the FA cup fixture a couple weeks prior they did the exact same thing and really dominated us in the first half, all that was missing was a goal but they had a load of chances.
I strongly suspected that if Arsenal could get a first half goal despite playing Havertz up top then we would be in a lot of trouble.
The difference is liverpool didn't show up on this one at all

The analysis on that first goal is incredible. Picked up on so many little details that most pundits just don’t see. If you go back slightly further in the passage leading to the goal there’s a really interesting cat and mouse game where the Arsenal players are baiting Liverpool into pressing in the way they want.

Na, Liverpool came out in the second half dominating completely. Alisson and Virgil’s mistake was the game changer, end of story. Arsenal deserved to win but but the wound was self inflicted by Liverpool.

When Chelsea was working to bring him in, this type of run was the exact thing he was so good at. Never worked out for him at CFC, partly bc that 1:1 with the keeper was pretty much him in a nutshell 🤷🏼♂️

Good analysis. I will say the Martinelli goal, he nudges VVD sllightly and that's why it caused chaos with VVD and Alisson. VVD gets pushed into Alisson's path and has to bail so he doesn't clatter into his keeper. Alisson is already out there and avoid VVD and simultaneously reach behind him to get the ball would be difficult

As a gooner I'm very happy Gabriel Martinelli (and his £6M price) plays for Arsenal. But I wonder sometimes if his style of playing (direct, disrupting) is actually more apt for Klopp's Liverpool.

Good Havertz chose that particular forward play. Makes him one of the best itw.If he passes to Saka its offside. If he tries Alisson's right side a deflection would go to a liverpool player.If he tries looping Alison knows he likes a chip. So just try the left side and worse cse scenario,its deflected to Saka. The goal might be a moment of genius against one of the greatest shot stoppers in one v one situations.
His intelligence and movement off the ball is honestly top class. Bro literally mind controlled those liveroool defender through movement alone.
@@snaggiz Spot on. He doesn't seem to remain static and attracts opponents by moving smartly without the ball. I also like how he is willing to engage in physical battles in the air and on the ground.
@@HerFatherDidntLikeMe this is one skill that I’d love to be able to teach young players. You play most of your game without the ball as a footballer. That’s reality, so what Kai does is genuinely extremely impressive because he finds ways of having an impact without even touching the ball sometimes and to do that in on an elite level game… yeah, Kai doesn’t get enough praise for how good he is in this regard.

the first goal happened because of one touch passing, instead of the plodding passing to feet that arteta's arsenal are usually guilty of, especially against low block teams. the speed of movement pressures the defense into making disjointed decisions, breaking down their structure and making recovery even more difficult (due to having to overcome chaotic momentum). yes formations are nice and all but not seizing on positional advantage in the very narrow windows that open just kills the offense, as has often been the case this season
But that first time passing only works if the opposing team presses (which doesn’t happen when you play low block teams)

But you miss the fact that teams that sit in a low block don't give any space for such moves to work. They literally sit.
It's through those multiple touches that they get to move those players, before the trigger pass when a channel opens up.

I’m curious, as an Arsenal fan, our biggest weakness last season and this season is that we have a random dip in form against low block teams. How do we correct this? These games are so frustrating to watch because we’re trying to over engineer our way into the box when there’s 11 opposing players in there. Don’t understand why we cant figure a way to play reverse psychology on them and sit back ourselves and bait them out to be able to play counter attacking football instead?

Another component of the first goal which I think is really important is exploiting the way Van Dijk defends and the lack of situational awareness from Van Dijk too
Arsenal pretty much have always been that team that thrive off of quick passes, Playing through the lines rather than taking players on 1v1, Traditionally Arsenal attacks slow down and fizzle out if you force them to beat you 1v1, They are much more comfortable passing around you (Which has tactical advantages and doesn't require as much physical effort) but ultimately can be stopped in situations like the first goal by not trying to press up on Odegaard, It's Martinelli vs Konate, Gomes vs Saka and Van Dijk dropping in means Van Dijk vs Havertz with Odegaard as the free man, Get numbers behind the ball, Give your other players the chance to recover, Try to make the next pass happen infront of you, Slow the play down, If Odegaard doesn't pass then force a long range shot (less likely to go in)
The moment Van Dijk steps up and vacates that CB role is the moment it becomes a proper scoring chance
Most likely if Van Dijk drops in then the pass from Odegaard after driving forward a little bit will go to Saka out wide, Odegaard doesn't usually run behind the line so from Saka it will go back to Odegaard and then it becomes slower, More time to recover, It falls back into tactical/rhythmic play from Arsenal and you force them to create another chance (not easily done)
Alternatively if that pass from Odegaard goes to Havertz infront of the defence the play dies out there and then, Havertz doesn't play well infront of the defence, Before he even joined Arsenal everyone knew his game was late runs into the box and running in behind defences.
Anyway, Hindsight is 20/20 as they say

The only thing that really matters is the first goal because that's Arsenal undoing Liverpool. The second goal is Liverpool undoing themselves and the third goal is a goal you score when a team is a man down and has no defensive structure.
For me, I think you're not giving Liverpool a hard enough time with how poorly it was defended. Very well worked by Arsenal, but shit defending on a few levels. To me, Trent triggers the problem because he elects to leave his man and go challenge the ball. That triggers Konate to leave his position and move to the wing, it leaves Van Dijk marking a ton of space, and it leave MacAllister to track Havertz back into the CB position.
Trent's thinking wasn't 100% wrong, but his implementation was very flawed. It was flawed because he took a half measure. He didn't actually press Zinchenko. He went half in allowing Zinchenko to play a pass. He should have pressed hard or fouled him. There's another reason why Trent made a mistake. He had no help. Gakpo and Gravenberch are 15-20 yards behind play and not closing any ground. So the press just isn't on in anyway.
But this also speaks to a problem Liverpool have when playing Gakpo and Gravenberch. They aren't very helpful when defending on the counter. Both are slow. Both have a low defensive work rate. Both are not very intense. So it allows Arsenal to get an advantage in numbers. Trent forces the switch and the switch opens up the whole team.
Arsenal absolutely deserve credit for executing their tactics and taking advantage of what Liverpool gave them, but at it's core, this is equally a huge Liverpool failure. Simply put, Trent made a bad decision to step up and he had no strong side help from the forward and midfielder on his side. Trent didn't recognize the situation, why he deserves blame, but Gakpo and Gravenberch not being in the picture, deserve a lot of blame too.
Between Konate, VVD and MacAllister - at least one of them should’ve seen the gap and the threat and what was about to happen.
@@Aquaflange As I explained, Konate had to go to the right because Trent left. Van Dijk had to slide to RCB because Konate left. MacAllister was left to cover everything else. The space was opened because Arsenal "forced" Trent up and Trent was "forced" up because Grav & Cody were out of position.

What broken Liverpool was having to start Gravenburch and Gakpo because of recent injuries to Mo, Szobo and Endo still being at the Asian cup. Made Arsenals life really easy in midfield when we were essentially operating with two against four whilst Gravenburch stat in the stands eating popcorn.

I know this doesn’t need discussion given the result but how was Kai not given a penalty? Mac Allister misses the ball and touches his leg enough to trip him up. That’s a pen and we’ve seen that given numerous times this season.
The ref was awful as always. Trigger happy against Arsenal and always keeping the on field decisions in favour of Liverpool so VAR couldn’t overturn anything unless it’s clear and obvious. Arsenal almost always play 12 men.
