  • With 25 goals scored, Arsenal have scored 40% of their total goals for the season in their last 7 Premier League matches, but what has sparked this change? In this video, Statman Dave takes a look at Mikel Arteta’s new Arsenal tactics and how the Gunners have gone from scoring 1.5 goals per game to 3.6 goals per game, despite playing the likes of West Ham, Newcastle United and Liverpool.

    It's not just a testament to Arteta's excellent coaching (to be able to elevate guys like Kiwior) but his overall transfer approach in general. A lot of our signings have been flexible players who can move in & out of different positions on the pitch. This lets us to adapt to injuries & opposition tactics obviously much easier as well. Just big strides forward yet again for the Arsenal.

    I actually think odegaard dropping deep is only really done because teams aren’t allowing him to get on the ball in that fun zone between Saka and whoever’s playing at 9, we saw this being the case again West Ham but due to arteta being adaptive he actually shifted some of Ben whites instructions to create an overload on that side in order to get Odegaard onto the ball, if you rewatch the game you will see exactly what I mean, we almost just said fuck it and sent Ben white forward leaving us fairly susceptible to a counter attack down that side but fortunately for us West Ham really didn’t have the quality down that flank to make any use of it. I also think West Ham really just weren’t expecting/ had no answer for this change which allowed us to be so dominant and their head basically went for a 15 minute period at the end of first half

      It's called a "choking press" which pins opposition teams to their own half and forcing errors to win the ball back. We don't allow teams the time to think where they want to pass the ball. Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Havertz are all over opposition defenders trying to play from the back and if the ball gets pass them then Rice, Saliba, Gabriel, White push up all over midfielders and forwards.

    Kiwior is a really interesting player because he has physical gifts that you wouldn't assume a guy playing LCB in Serie A for Spezia would possess. When they did his evaluation at London Colney, he apparently broke the standing squad record for sprint speed over whatever interval they use to measure. So you have a player who has recovery pace in excess of Gabriel Martinelli, and who has been given some license to roam as an inverted LB, and though he doesn't provide technical security with the ball at his feet like Zinchenko, there's a no-nonsense defender in him that you see clearly once he's moved the ball upfield. He can be more exploratory than your typical slow defender, yet stronger in the tackle than your typical all-speed dribbling fullback. It will be interesting to see if he can hold off challenges from Zinchenko, Timber, and Tomiyasu as those three get back to match fitness!

    • @virtunus7950
      @virtunus7950 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    When inverting a wingback arsenal actually play the same way as they did last year (ppl forget that there were some big scorelines then too), the only difference is that the change of personnel necessitates some changes to the roles, odegaard drops back bc havetz just not good at it, and bc odegaard has ben white behind defensively it works, then the interchange between white and odegaard becomes interesting, etc. On the de zerbi 4 2 4, I think the best example is actually the community shield game, it was partey instead of jorginho but the interchanges were very interesting there. Overall, great job explaining the differences and showing how it works 👍👏👏 agree with you that havetz and trossard fit better for the de zerbi system as they are true false 9s, whereas jesus is more of an all-rounder for me

    Everyone who is an Arsenal fan needs to say a daily prayer that Timber is ready by April and that Martinelli is back for the City game. If Arsenal can field Timber as the inverted wingback opposite White...🤩🤩😛😛 the rest of the League will have SERIOUS SERIOUS problems. If VDV and Liverpool were confused before, they will be left completely dumbstruck with Timber and White inverting at will....
    Tbvh, its quite a scary thought. Timber's technical ability and recovery speed is legit terrifying for most opponents.
    For defenses it will be akin to trying to defend an ever speeding merry-go-round in the middle of the pitch and their own final third.
    If, and its very BIG if, Arsenal can manage to sign Ivan Toney or a smaller, faster, deadly ball striker, someone like a Salah, tbvh, they may do an Invincibles part deux next season.
    I honestly believe, Klopp knows all this and wants no part of that smoke, and decided that he would rather call time out than be forced to face down not only Pep but Pep 2.0 in Arteta.

    Setpieces improved immensely an Rice taking most of them of late seems t have contributed.
    Media favourites, Zinny and Jesus being benched of late is no coincidence either
