    By your use of materials. I figured that you used those cheap materials simply because this was a prototype. But looking at the results. Your prototyping phase is over, put this into production. This works better than any Cyclone system I've ever seen not a single Speck got into the vacuum. I think Harvey would be jealous because even their machine has to be vacuumed out after each use and they put thousands of dollars of Technology into their machine that you were able to reproduce better results with a piece of mesh oh, a few pieces of plywood, some connectors, and essentially a bucket LOL. Way2go. Absolutely love this.

    Amazing video. But can someone explain this to me, please?
    I understand the constructed screen cylinder on top will allow the air and the fine dust to leave the collector and the heavier remnants to fall to the bottom bucket. But wouldn't the intake from the suction hose next to the metal screen allow larger chips and dust to go through the screen right away without settling? I mean the dust and chips that can fit through that screen size which appears to be larger than say window screen.
    I would think maybe only have the back half of the metal cylinder a screen so when the intake hose blasts against the insert it would divert more away to settle.

      Of course powder-like garbage passes through.
      No centrifugation is perfect.
      Even Dyson's filters aren't permanent.

      @@jisakukobo Thank you for answering, I perhaps worded it badly. I meant for particles that could normally pass through, but if given time to settle or aimed away, they would gather in the bucket instead of the vacuum.
      I now also realize that even if it does work that way it would probably only save a little space in the shop-vac.

    First off, I agree that’s a nice dust collection system. Well done. What I can’t believe is, there was ever that much dust on the floor. EVER! He must have driven 10 miles to find that much. Hahaha. Again well done.

    Very nice take on the bucket cyclone! I suspect that your intake on the bucket will be the weak spot - where the short white flexible hose goes in and is attached with putty. A more durable solution might be to have a rigid intake and "cast" it in place with liquid epoxy or a bit of fiberglass.
    Only very light dust will make it to the vacuum cleaner, but over time it will clog up the filter. If you can get cheap disposable bags for the vacuum, they will save some time on shaking and blowing out the filter.
    A smaller (faster) secondary cyclone will remove more fine dust and prevent it reaching the vacuum, but at the cost of some airflow. A secondary cyclone could even fit inside the top bucket...
    Beautifully made altogether.

      This will be a weld style epoxy putty that will be going nowhere, not pretty , but definitely permanent

    Very interesting design and impressive results. One mention, if I may, at Time 1:40 When I have a shape like that to cut out, I use two different hole saws; obviously the larger one at one end and a smaller one at the other end. Then just use a jig saw, or whatever one has available, to cut between the holes; seems to save time.

    Use your dremel cutting disc (or buy one - usually they are included) to cut out those shapes in metal instead of drilling 30 holes, cutting out remnants, then grinding the edge clean with the dremel anyway . . . great cyclone build though.

      Sometimes you don't have cutting discs and don't feel like going to the store. Chain drilling is often used in aviation as well for repairs.

      Another option is to use a sheet metal nibbler tool (drill attachment accessory) and cut out that shape.

    I have made it few months ago but my 1500W vacuum cleaner caused radial implosion of the metal barrels I used. Definitelly a barrels with stronger metal sheet is needed.

    ( Es ) Un ciclón nunca te quitará el polvo fino .
    Sólo sustituye a la bolsa de filtro .
    Donde quedan las partículas que pueda filtrar .( un ahorro en bolsas )
    El polvo fino , que no ves , tendrá que ser filtrado por el BUEN filtro de la aspiradora . ( HEPA )
    De lo contrario ... lo respirarás.

    Now add an internal bag to your vacuum. It will keep that filter clean indefinately and keep the suction near peak for much longer. Plus its a cheaper than a filter if you happen to overfill your collector and pull debris into the vacuum.

      @@dsaurabh13 it blocks debris with very little weight but larger surface area from entering the other tube(source of the vacuum). Things like small plastic bags or leaves that won't tumble and flow along the outside edge and settle to the bottom.

    What are the 4 metal inserts installed on the bottom side of the lower round wooden piece for? I didn't see the purpose of these. Someone please tell me. Some measurements would be nice also.

    I love the design, but don't understand the purpose of the recessed washers in the top plywood end of the separation cage. Can someone explain their purpose?

      I thought the same but they were magnets not washers, to hold separation caster in place. Makes it easier to remove when it needs to be cleaned

    Hi, have You tried it with some very fine dust, like from drywall sander? i'm on a verge of some renovation work in my house, and thinking cheap vacuum with such cyclone dust collector vs pricier vacuum with filter cleaner system, got any thoughts on that?

    I'd use a dremel tool to cut the side opening. Less to sand down.

      Easier cleanup -- vac filter doesn't get clogged / lasts longer (less expense).

    Thanks for this video, really nice build.
    I would like to know what size the holes on the mesh are? as I'm planning to try this build. Its the most effektive diy cyclone I'v seen and the simplest build 👍 Also what hight is it all together? I'm guessing that the hight has to be just right, for this design to work effectively?

    What type of epoxy is it that you are using to bond the wood and steel? Where I live where have tubes of 2 part epoxy, but it is very expensive so was wondering what it is you are using because you are using it quite often. Nice work!

      За место сетки надо взять автомобильный фильтр - это раз! Индикации заполнения нет и при наборе полностью, как вы разберете эти два ведра - это два!(как минимум одно ведро высыпиться рядом)

    Nice build, those things separate really good but are somewhat costly when it comes to static pressure since the container will snatch pretty much all of it.

      Now that's an important point and one I hadn't thought about (or had forgotten). Any idea what the numbers would be?

      @@shaman935 Yea, you will loose about 80-90% of the static pressure when using a typical china cyclone. This sort of separator is a bit better, but most baffle builds will remove at least 70% or more. This is fine as long as you don't plan to vacuum any heavy particles, having long hoses or downsizing the hose to much.

      @@shaman935 I have one connected to my saw and it seems fine. The pressure drops a lot more drastically from clogged filters without it! I suppose it depends how disciplined you are about emptying out shop vacs and cleaning filters though.
      You can make a simple one in about 20 minutes from a large plastic bucket if you want to test. The inner mesh cylinder is unnecessary, you just need a baffle to separate the dust collection from the cyclone. There's approximately a billion tutorials on yt for how to do it.
