I am sure it took you longer to build this machine than merely hand filling a groove. However, now you have a excellent machine to do other grooves and splines on outside or inside situations... Thumbs Up!
Before make inner diameter for shaft, First drill it at the right position of slot, use AutoCAD to precise position, drill it with small drill at slot corners (2 diameter is okay) then drill it as slot dimensions required, make bore as shaft diameter request, then use a file to smooth out any remaining drill marks, I think it will help a lot
I think you and your friend at made in Poland are having a friendly competition. Did you see his "Over engineered spray can shaker" 😱😵💫🤣 Good job 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Be safe 🇨🇦
What a good mechanical work you have done by making a slotting machine for engineering work this will give a new dimension for our future .You are blessed with unique kind of engineering work which will be remember a very long time history.
That took some time to engineer and source parts for. Personally, a set of keyway broaches would have been more practical, but not as interesting as building this shaper. 👍
👍👍👍👍 You are really more than wonderful Innovative, smart, and your ideas are organized But what attracts me the most is the equipment and machinery in the factory I wish I had one like it one day
Your industrial, planning, design, execution skills are extreemly valuable. I am wondering what kind positions the world value your skills in ? My opinion is somewhere very high in the industrial world, even the inventor level CONGRATS. you can create ppretty much what you put your head to. I will definitly follow your channel.
Hermoso trabajo. Pero me suscribo y pongo like. Te mando un gran abrazo desde Argentina.
Perfect ! - Well done - Very, very useful machine which is similar to a shaping machine - I think I need to build a key way cutting machine like yours ! - Love it ! ❤
You should stop while I still have enough time and energy. I'll end up in the shop all night trying to duplicate this thing and won't get anything else done.. Great work!
Well done and a 👍as always. With any new design/build, it's likely you'd make small changes after a time of testing and use. If you do make changes with this or any other project, a video of you pointing out those changes as you address them would be great additions to your other channel-Infinity Garage. Just a thought. God bless.

This is an amazing machine, superior fabrication skills as always! Forgive me, but I dont understand how it works. Does the cutting bit have to move deeper and deeper into the groove as it cuts? This is well above my abilities of what I might ever do, so maybe it doesnt matter if I dont understand, but I definitely enjoyed watching. I know it is impossible for you to make this many videos, but I would happily watch 3 hours of your videos every week. Thanks for sharing!!!
if you look at 16:57 the complete view of the machine, you'll see a handle on the right side. When you turn that, the cutting tool (and everything else) will move "to the left", making the cut deeper.

Skillset is phenomenal. However, I would never make such a machine while I can buy a broaching set for a 200 $ installed on a handpress that is for sure more efficient than this machine. Great content btw.
Very nice build...but the major disadvantage is that the tool has no guiding in the bore hole. So it will be pushed away, that's why you can only make veeeery little steps. In a worst case, the cutting tool might jam on the flange and break or bend or something breaks. Why not use standard reaming tools with just an x movement of the support?
good machine but there is one major drawback. An industrial machine retracts the cutter every time it moves backward. This protects the cutter from wear.
Yes, That is a brass bearing/bushing he has gone for in order to give his machine better long term durability and get his machine to run smoothly... as brass and copper are excellent bearing material for reciprocating/stroke actions.
Very interesting build, Well Done. But why the horrible grunching noise at 16:53 when the speed reduction box output wheel goes through 8 and 10 o'clock, is there something wrong inside or is something interfering? It only makes this noise on the forward to reverse changeover stroke, ie when the tool bar is the most extended, there is no noise when it goes from reverse to forward ie when the tool bar is least extended and it not cutting anything yet.
Merci
An offer to mass produce? A problem with a component or design problem that didn't come up till some use? I don't know if I could ever make such a thing but a power wagon would be nice and not have to pay for some big brand one, I remember the drive axle stood out, looked familiar like from a zero turn mower or something.

so what’s taking the cutting load on the work holding chuck? the 1” or so shaft on a (taper) bearing in the gear reduction box? what if your cutting slot on large radious part? seems work holding may be not great? hard to tell. would a horizontal/vertical rotary table work well too? they are offered with dividing plates and even electric\cnc controls. and they have axis locks as i’m sure you know. welding on your jig bore table? your a savage. nice build. sweet shop. mad fab skills. need me one of them. what kind of tool holder were you using for that slot cut?
Dude, if you use 10mm stock for every part, the resulting tool ends up weighing 70kg+ . Only a specialised fab shop cutting dozens of slots a day would ever need this device, otherwise it's just a very expensive and very heavy doorstop for the workshop. I mean, nice work putting something together, but I seriously doubt this tool needed to exist
It might be heavy, but the advantage of using heavy gauge metal makes the machine much more stronger and robust and avoids movement/chatter when the machine is working under load... I believe he does all sorts of projects which involve the cutting of key ways so this machine is probably a good investment and well worth the money and time he had spent making it... it is a simple concept but very useful as with an addition of an indexing/dividing attachment he could use it to cut his own gears from that same 10 mm steel !
How are the two ends set to be level along the center axis?? The chuck holding the piece and the boss holding the piston.. I watched the video twice and didn't notice how you set up them level... nice work as always though
15:36 there are slotted holes for height adjustment of the reduction gearbox. Same for the other axis. I wonder why he didn't add a pawl/ratchet mechanism, like a real shaper does.
Very good fabrication skills. I have a shaper but would like a vertical slotting machine, you have given me some useful ideas. Thank You
I am sure it took you longer to build this machine than merely hand filling a groove. However, now you have a excellent machine to do other grooves and splines on outside or inside situations... Thumbs Up!

No, it was the same amount of time for it was way more fun than the pesky hand file! Nice machine!
but now he never has to file again ^^

That took some time to engineer and source parts for.
Personally, a set of keyway broaches would have been more practical, but not as interesting as building this shaper. 👍
You should add a clapper to the cutter and face it downward, like a shaper!

Undoubtedly, the master craftsman had reinvented the wheel . Thanks
Magnifico progetto amicone miooooo😍😍😍
Onorato di imparare da te. Sei un vero MAESTRO
Grazie 😁
Impressive work bud... I bet all that steel and kit to build it wasnt cheap... great if you have lots of splines and slots to cut.
My wife wants one of these, no idea why... She doesn't even do metalwork.
