I met J. G. Hertzler. Lovely man with a great sense of humour! I love the episode in Lower Decks where Mariner cuts Boimler with a bat'leth she got from an old Klingon with an eye patch! Priceless! 😁
Today agree, all these years later my favourite star trek moment is when Worf is asked to be ambassador and martok says “perhaps being Chancellor won’t be so bad after all” totally sums up this epic character
Martok is one of my absolute favorite characters in all of Trek. J.G. Hertzler crusher it. I was so stoked when they brought the character back in the Dominion prison camp, and then later in game form on Lower Decks. So much nuance, humor, and a fantastic leader.
I met Hertzler at a con in 2017 and he was astounding. A true gentleman and extremely intriguing. I spoke in length with him about DS9 and the other actors. He even sang the Klingon song that he and Worf sang at Worfs bachelor party. One of the best experiences of my life.
The fact they actually went along with his ideas of not being too much of a "generic klingon" was a good move, after all, everyone's different, and was something he did with playing Advocate Kolos, Archer's legal counsel in Enterprise, not all klingons are battle-hungry lunatics... :)
MAAARRTOK!!!!!!!!!!!! You have not missed the mark saying the fans adore him! I think the way he owned that role was the absolute best in the Klingon world. (I love me some Worf too)
I met a LARP costumer here in the Chicagoland area at a craft fair. He had apparently wanted his personal Martok costume, tried to get her to give him a break on the price to advertise her costuming. Being a proud artisan, she scolded him and made him pay full price.
Even as allies the Klingons were often written as "antagonist of the week", this led to them being massivly inconsistent and as a group, upholding none of the values they claimed. The exception was Martok, a great character, brilliantly acted.
All I can say. Is that I loved that character of martok From the very first time they ever brought him on deep space 9 All the way through the last episode of deep space 9.
I knew about Martok in Star Trek Armada PC Game where alongside Worf we're fighting a Klingon Civil War against Toral and also providing support for the Federation against the Borg Invasion
Great character and played superbly by JG Hertzler. He's such a rounded, interesting character with so much depth and besides Worf, he's probably my favourite Klingon. If it wasn't for other fantastic characters, such as Garak and Dukat, he would be my favourite non-main cast character in DS9. Enjoyable vid, thanks! I'll now be trying that book.
OKAY but where can I find that Rap Album! This is serious lol Also he is THE Klingon and I love Everytime Hertzler is on screen. Thanks in advance! 🖖🏽🤓
My favourite character of all of Trek. Martok♥so exciting to play alongside him in Star Trek Online as well and I'm glad the devs even let Martok become besties with the player. A lot of the dialogues they share are hilarious and wholesome.
Rick and Sean actually said a lot of the same things, but they did have some differences. Obviously he's a great character if two well-known Trek channels are covering him.
Has anyone else noticed that Klingons have a number of societal traits that have been shown in Earth's many cultures? They have Viking traits, a love of battle and views of the afterlife. Their honour is clearly based on the Bushido code of the Samurai of Japan. These two are the most prevalent, but I'm sure there are others.
martok outside worf is my favorite klingon in al of trek and i love to see him on screen again in person cameos are find but i love to see him with worf again maybe in lower deck or prodigy season 3 or a new animated series i mean how is he doing as the leader of the empire
The recent Lower Decks story involving a Klingon's removal as captain of a ship he earned honorably by killing a ptahk of a scheming captain, had the same council as the one that Kor used to 'dump on' Martok. Another 'Trek-onection'...
And you just *know* Martok added that "for the Empire" on the end, just to remind Gowron that he was supposed to serve a larger cause than just himself.
I often like to draw similarities between Klingons and Krogans from Masss Effect and Martok is the closest Klingon we get to Wrex. Which is a HUGE compliment
Haha what really? I'm Nova Scotian and always thought that was a coincidence. Really cool if true, especially considering it's a pretty obscure ski hill.
1:55 I might be one of the very very few people who believe the Martok of "The Way of the Warrior (1&2)" is the true Martok, and that he had been switched to an imposter (changeling) OFF-SCREEN. After all, he did pass the 'test' in that first appearance.
Why there are always two or three channels in my hobbies that pick the exact same topic for a video in ahort succession or at the same time? That weirds me out so much 😅😅
"We ARE Klingons, Worf. We don't embrace other cultures, we conquer them!" "It's a pity Captain Sisko frowns on summary executions" "[Gruffly] Cadet" By the hand of Kahless I love that guy.
Random, but when I think of J.G. Hertzler and Robert O'Reilly, I realize that only Michael Dorn and Tony Todd were black actors that played Klingons. Everyone else was in, well... face paint....
"Likely cause bay"..... tell your writers to watch the freaking episode instead of using crib notes... It was explained in the episode where it happened, like the first thing almost said because it was so important.... Lazy....
Martok is a HUGE reason the Klingon Empire regained some respect/honor after the events of TNG and Duras.
I met J. G. Hertzler. Lovely man with a great sense of humour!
I love the episode in Lower Decks where Mariner cuts Boimler with a bat'leth she got from an old Klingon with an eye patch! Priceless! 😁
Martok is my favorite DS9 supporting character and probably my favorite Klingon overall.
Same
Today agree, all these years later my favourite star trek moment is when Worf is asked to be ambassador and martok says “perhaps being Chancellor won’t be so bad after all” totally sums up this epic character
I agree hands down.
M-aaarrr-tok, my favorite space pirate arrrr'
Here here
Martok was played to be strong intimating and typical Klingon, without being Toxic Kligon.
Scary but kind.
Martok is not just my favorite DS9 character, or my favorite Klingon, he's my favorite Trek character overall.
Martok is one of my absolute favorite characters in all of Trek. J.G. Hertzler crusher it. I was so stoked when they brought the character back in the Dominion prison camp, and then later in game form on Lower Decks. So much nuance, humor, and a fantastic leader.

One of the top 5 klingon characters ever. My personal favorite.
The fact they actually went along with his ideas of not being too much of a "generic klingon" was a good move, after all, everyone's different, and was something he did with playing Advocate Kolos, Archer's legal counsel in Enterprise, not all klingons are battle-hungry lunatics... :)
One of my favorite characters
MAAARRTOK!!!!!!!!!!!! You have not missed the mark saying the fans adore him! I think the way he owned that role was the absolute best in the Klingon world. (I love me some Worf too)
Martok and the Klingons should have had their own series. It would be glorious.
Martok is one of my favorite DS9 characters.
Martok and Worf are my favorite Klingons . Both have brilliant stories and both a rich klingon history .
I met a LARP costumer here in the Chicagoland area at a craft fair. He had apparently wanted his personal Martok costume, tried to get her to give him a break on the price to advertise her costuming. Being a proud artisan, she scolded him and made him pay full price.
DS9! Man, those were some awesome characters: Martok. Dukat. Garak. Sisko. Odo. Quark.
And many others.
And don't forget Damar and all the Weyouns.
Morn
Martok is one of the greatest Kilingons of all time.
The Left Hand of Destiny is a great story. I can't tell you how many times I've reread it. Martok is one of my all-time favorite characters.
J.G. Hertzler in the episode “You Are Cordially Invited” showed what a great actor he is!!
Even as allies the Klingons were often written as "antagonist of the week", this led to them being massivly inconsistent and as a group, upholding none of the values they claimed. The exception was Martok, a great character, brilliantly acted.
Timing of this is hilarious because only a couple days ago I saw a video about him from another Star Trek themed channel I watch
My favourite Klingon, and I've been lucky enough to meet J. G. a couple of times. An awesome Character, and Actor.
"I tell you Worf, war is much more fun when you're winning!"
-- Martok
Martok kicked ass
All I can say.
Is that I loved that character of martok From the very first time they ever brought him on deep space 9 All the way through the last episode of deep space 9.
J.G. Hertzler played in an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond shortly after DS9 ended, and he wore an eye patch in that episode
Martok is one of the best Klingon characters in all of Trek. In a series FILLED with the best Klingons.
Yes along with Garak and Weyoun great additions to the DS9 saga
Another excellant piece Sean! Hats off to you and @TrekCulture crew!
I knew about Martok in Star Trek Armada PC Game where alongside Worf we're fighting a Klingon Civil War against Toral and also providing support for the Federation against the Borg Invasion

Enjoyable vid, thanks! I'll now be trying that book.
Martok was my favorite of the supporting cast.
Martok rules, my second most favorite Klingon next to Worf.
"Martok rules!"
Yeah, that's kinda what a Chancellor does...
agreed I love them together
Martok has to be my favorite Klingon of all time all respect to Worf Martok is the best
OKAY but where can I find that Rap Album! This is serious lol
Also he is THE Klingon and I love Everytime Hertzler is on screen.
Thanks in advance! 🖖🏽🤓
My favourite character of all of Trek. Martok♥so exciting to play alongside him in Star Trek Online as well and I'm glad the devs even let Martok become besties with the player. A lot of the dialogues they share are hilarious and wholesome.
I just, last year had a great talk with J.G. at a Denver convention. I got a great signed photo from him.
Deja vu. Certifiably Ingame just did a video on Martok, but I'm still here for it.
Rick and Sean actually said a lot of the same things, but they did have some differences. Obviously he's a great character if two well-known Trek channels are covering him.
You can't drop a reference to Kling Bling and not provide a link! I've searched high and low and can't find the album online. I need to hear it!!
God damn I love Martok!
I would love a Star Trek series surrounding the Klingons! Do martok series chronicling his rise or about a Klingon hero ship
My wife and I love the scene when Martoks wife arrives on DS9. That is what all couples should strive to be.
And I bet Martok was very popular with people of Nordic descent in the Federation. It's like Odin, back from Asgard.
@DavidStowers-o7k If we're honest, most of Star Treks non human humanoids are reflections of our own traits etc.
The most klingon klingon🙏🫡💪
Surprised you didn't mention JG as an elderly klingon in the Star Trek Klingon CD ROM interactive movie/"game"
martok outside worf is my favorite klingon in al of trek and i love to see him on screen again in person cameos are find but i love to see him with worf again maybe in lower deck or prodigy season 3 or a new animated series i mean how is he doing as the leader of the empire
the two boys cos-playing made me giggle... legends!
LOVE Martok!
Martok and the actor were both amazing
The recent Lower Decks story involving a Klingon's removal as captain of a ship he earned honorably by killing a ptahk of a scheming captain, had the same council as the one that Kor used to 'dump on' Martok. Another 'Trek-onection'...
Does anyone know where I can this album?
3:38
"I DO NOT WANT AN ARTIFICIAL EYE"
Rick from Certifiably Ingame just did a vid on this. Neat.
We now have Klingon rap I still want to hear what a Klingon country song with sound like
bound to be all about losing your job, your woman and your targ
Martok is my second favorite Klingon. Would love a vid on Gowron (my favorite Klingon)
Please provide links to the rap album and convention clips
😊 oh, I love this.
"I'll fight any battle anywhere..for the empire"-Martok
And you just *know* Martok added that "for the Empire" on the end, just to remind Gowron that he was supposed to serve a larger cause than just himself.
Great video
I often like to draw similarities between Klingons and Krogans from Masss Effect and Martok is the closest Klingon we get to Wrex.
Which is a HUGE compliment
We need more Klingon episodes!
Great as always!
Fun Fact: Martok is named after a ski resort in Nova Scotia Canada
Haha what really? I'm Nova Scotian and always thought that was a coincidence. Really cool if true, especially considering it's a pretty obscure ski hill.
I'm starting to think there's a civil war every time there's a new chancellor.
one of my fav characters from ds9!
About J.G., Martok, and 'the eye'. J.G. also has a real life issue with that eye and has said he preferred the one-eyed Martok that way too...
I always thought instead of Star Trek Picard, It should have been Star Trek Klingon
That's a great idea!
Funny thing, a different sci-fi TH-cam channel had video about him the other day
Are you talking about Certifiably Ingame? If so the funny thing is that Rick and Sean shared most of the same stuff, with only a few small differences
@amandamatheny3675 but on this video, more behind Seene stuff
Martok rapped so Strange New Worlds could bring us Kling-Pop.
Here's a really sick joke I once heard.
Q. When do pop and rap equate with each other?
A. When you add the letter e onto the end of them!
Sirella doesnt know how good she had it married to Martok
I know Martok is the stepdad of the greatest poker player in history, Worf.
So the Klingons like rap. Could have fooled me after that episode of strange new worlds because it seemed like they were into K-pop no pun intended
You can be into more than one music genre.
1:55 I might be one of the very very few people who believe the Martok of "The Way of the Warrior (1&2)" is the true Martok, and that he had been switched to an imposter (changeling) OFF-SCREEN. After all, he did pass the 'test' in that first appearance.
Top tier Star trek character.
2:00 more than a name check, we saw him in the... Bone...
Martok is the best Klingon.
Okay, if someone know where I can listen to this "Kling Bling" album, please share- something that silly just appeals to me right now...
Martok, honor has been satisfied
Thanks. 🖖🏻
Martok, my favorite Klingon 🖖
Likely lost his eye to the Jem Hadar fighting pit? He told Worf witch guard took his eye during the episode.
Martok is the best Klingon in Trek, yes even over Worf!
Klingons are in Trek, though. They aren't the entirety of Trek.
@GabePuratekuta What?!
@@RandomNPC001 You said Klingons are Trek.
@GabePuratekuta in Trek, the is was a typo.
If the Klingons are so tough, why did they just agree to a ceasefire?
Gen. Martok for president
Why am i seeing multiple Trek channels do videos on Martok? Did the actor pass and join Tony Todd in Stovokor?
Nope. He's still alive.
Great to hear! I was worried.
Why there are always two or three channels in my hobbies that pick the exact same topic for a video in ahort succession or at the same time? That weirds me out so much 😅😅
Weirdly I think I did know these facts. 🤔
Little known fact: his brother was famed composer Bella Bartok.
It is not Kronos it is Qo'noS
Are all you Trek content creators on a Martok kick? I've seen so many videos for this Klingon popping up.
JG Hertzler, and Robert O'Reilly were born a week apart from each other.
"We ARE Klingons, Worf. We don't embrace other cultures, we conquer them!"
"It's a pity Captain Sisko frowns on summary executions"
"[Gruffly] Cadet"
By the hand of Kahless I love that guy.
Lazy....
Klingons do not rap! They bust out the most honorable K pop beats though
Who?
