Taking My Wife's Parents Around Philippines' Busiest City! (Jeepneys, Mall of Asia, & the Metro)

  • Nicole's parents have arrived in the Philippines from Canada! Today we are exploring the capital city with them (Manila) to give them their first taste of the Philippines. I think it's safe to say that their first impressions of the Philippines is that Manila is BUSY.
There are so many cool things to show my Canadian in-laws in Manila that it was difficult to choose what to do in just one day! We started off our day in BGC which is where we are staying with my in-laws, but we quickly made our way to Dolomites Beach to see the water. We visited Rizal Park to get away from the crowds for a minute, before diving into the most cultural experience of the day - eating at Jollibee! This is the first time Nicole's parents are trying Jollibee, and their reactions were awesome. Maybe they will even go to Jollibee again when they go back to Canada (there are Canadian locations now!)
To give my Canadian in-laws the full Manila experience, we hopped on the Manila metro and then got in our first ever jeepney! This was mine and Nicole's first time riding a jeepney too, and we had to rely on Filipino kindness to figure out how to pay and where to get off. It was such an awesome experience taking this famous Manila vehicle.
We took the jeepney to the Mall of Asia and got our first glimpse of the biggest mall in all of the Philippines. It was HUGE!! It's hard to imagine there could be bigger malls than this, but the Mall of Asia is currently only the fifth biggest mall in the world! After doing a little shopping, we made our way to SM By the Bay where we saw a GIANT line for the rides there. Before coming to Manila we had no idea there was an entire amusement park just outside the Mall of Asia! We got super lucky and managed to get on the Mall of Asia Eye (the MOA Eye or the Ferris wheel) just in time for sunset.
We had an awesome time showing Nicole's parents around Manila for the first time! Manila is such a big city, that it's a pretty intense place to make a first impression of the Philippines, but we are headed to Palawan next so we can enjoy a much more relaxed part of the Philippines :)

Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico and in March 2021, we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and began traveling the world! We never thought we'd be making travel vlogs on TH-cam, but after realizing that we had a unique opportunity to share our adventure and make the world feel more familiar and inviting to anyone watching, we took the leap and picked up the camera! We hope our videos show how wonderful, delicious, and friendly the world can be.

That jeepney you rode definitely isn't from the war. The jeepneys you see running around were inspired by the military jeepneys left by the US and are manufactured locally. 🙂

There is already prepared sauce in pack when you buy spaghetti noodles it's in condements section i think, and you can add banana ketchup and condensed milk into the sauce for the extra sweet, banana ketchup is sweet and a little bit spicy.

a little FYI on jeepneys... the original jeeps left by the american military can only accommodate 8 passengers, 6 at the back and 2 on front including the driver... those jeepneys you are riding can accommodate up to 8 at each side and 3 on front including the drive making a total of 18 persons... there are jeeps than pack as much as 27 persons... Mall of Asia is the largest in Asia and 3rd in the world... now about the spaghetti... filipino spaghetti tend to be in the sweeter side. unlike italian spaghetti that uses fresh tomatoes, filipino spaghetti originally uses ketchup, banana ketchup to be exact which is sweeter. combined with tomato sauce. then salt and pepper to taste (yes, no herbs or other spices) just salt and pepper... homemade filipino spaghetti has ground meat (either pork or beef) in it and hotdogs. the used is pasturized or processed cheese... not parmesan. i can teach you my almost joliibee like spaghetti if you want... just drop me a message...

I can suggest to visit the Corregidor Island. The very first Island before arriving Manila by the sea. It is very historical place for this Island. During the Spanish era it becomes Spanish fortress where ships coming before going to Mania has stop here to declare the immigration and custom process to this island. Then during the American era it became United States of America Headquarter base for Asia Pacific where General Douglas McArthur held his Office. It has a 20 foot Malinta Tunnel. This island is filled with Anti Aircraft Batteries. It is also has beaches. It is hour and half ride from Manila by Shuttle boat is Mall of Asia near Esplanade.
