I was in 5th grade. Walked home for lunch and on the way back, stopped at a school friend's house so we could walk back together. He met me at the door and said, "C'mon in, I wanna show you something." There was nobody else in the house. He took me into his much older brother's room, where there was a linear tracking turntable cued up with a record. He dropped the needle and cranked up the volume and this song changed my world.

Ian Bairnson was a master of that get-in, get-out solo. All the big APP hits have it. Brilliant combo of classic blues kicks, arpeggios, and a litt bit of magic. He recently passed away. One of the greats!

Just a quick thank-you for the lesson. Clear, concise, and correctly picks up nuances that some others I looked at missed (to my ear, at least). I especially like that you QUICKLY show 2-3 diferent ways to play key chords, like the Ab/C. Thanks lots!

I've got to say that is THE best sound I've ever heard anyone use for the rhythm & lead parts of this song. Great teaching too.

Spot on as usual. I have always liked the Alan Parson's hits. Tasty solos - from that era, Eddie Money, Brian Adams, Cars, Toto, et al ... these guys put pro work into the compositions. As you say, the solos are clean, melodic and memorable almost as their own tune within a tune. Chris DeGarmo's solos on Empire - another example of uncluttered, catchy, hook work. Steely Dan is one more, particularly Carlton's work on Royal Scam. Those solos had it all - intermodal changes, following the chords, arpeggiation, harmonic structure. Pure master pro work. Thanks for putting up yet another bomber tutorial. Always a fan of your work.

Just found this lesson, fantastic solo and very clearly taught as usual! I'm sure more Iain Bairson solos would go down well, Turn of a Friendly Card, Same Old Sun.Such a tasteful, melodic player,so much to be learned from his style! Thanks again. Stephen (Scotland)

6 years too late finding this gem! I’ve followed you for years but never knew you’d already covered APP, awesome job! Side note, it occurs to me with your level of musical skill and obvious talent that perhaps you’re one of the many guitarists Don Fagen used in one of his songs over the years! If not, it absolutely could be true! Cheers to you.

Great! I love Parsons and I love your lessons. I like the context you put in your videos talking about records, guitar players, etc. Sometimes I miss the part when you talk about the sound of the guitar in the song but always you do a remarcable explanation of what to play even how to fake other instruments parts. Thank you very much for your work. Regards from Argentina.
