When I first heard this guitar solo, years ago, it just grabbed me. I still believe it's one of the best guitar solos ever written. Thanks for breaking it down, so perfectly. You are a very gifted guitar player and teacher.
your instructional videos are some of the best on TH-cam. Been playing guitar for over 40 years and really appreciate the way you add context to the parts, framing the CAGE concepts and of course the cord tones and arpeggios
Thank you for doing this one! Ian Bairnson is such a criminally underrated guitarist...he has the knack of putting just the right amount of pizzazz at just the right time in a song. Very subtle, very under appreciated!
The way you explain things makes it easier to understand. How the notes from the chords and solo playing those notes explain a lot. There's a reason you have so many likes compared to 0 dislikes. Thanks for explaining it clearly.
SHUT UP!!!! i was totally digging this song on the radio!!! love alan parsons when i hear it out of the blue! love this and awesome lessons using arpeggios and chording structures!! great lessons and insight on the full structure of this piece
Man you are such a great player and teacher. You and Tim Pierce are the best out there. Is that a wine red Deluxe,? I let a 1974 just like it get away from me......a regret.
Just being mentioned in the same sentence as Tim Pierce it's a huge honor...He's one of the most polished guitarists around and one of the nicest guys to boot! You can read about my guitars and amps etc. on my gear page here: www.shutupandplay.ca/gear.html but it's a 1975 LP Deluxe. Cheers Andy
You are right, this is a great song to learn. I see three different scales or modes to play. In the key of D, the root, fourth G and fifth A, you can play bm pentatonic, D major scale, and the A Mixolydian which is the Fifth mode of the D scale. That position at the second fret from the F# - G note A mixolydian. G is flat seventh in A mixolydian scale. From the fifth position of the Key to D. Thanks for the great work you do.
We can learn a lot of this solo yes, maybe because you explained it! Never say that is boring again! And by the way... Excellent work as ever and thanks for another song from Alan Parsons.
Love it! I recall a few years ago that a song by LADY ANTEBELLUM had a very similar progression, and wanted our group to medley/morph into EYE IN THE SKY. Noone knew what the hell song I was talking about. LOL.
Great detailed tutorial. Thx sir. You have a very good style of relaying info clearly with just enough background and good solid playing. Nice tone too! I have a student who is very interested in the 80s Alan Parsons material and we’ve been digging into some of the songs lately. Keep up the great work!
The keyboard parts you play starting at around 4 minutes reminds me of the song "Lady" from the Little River Band, which is beautiful. BTW: You are my favorite guitar player/musician. Thank you 👍.
So good man A+ you explain very well and then add a ton of good information in between!! This video will teach me some serious but basic soloist “meats” that I have struggled with thank you 👍🏻
I ALWAYS do a demo of the song, mostly in a separate video. There's a link to my website in the pop-up card in the top right hand corner of the video or the link in the description or the first pinned comment...my demo and the lesson are on the same page. My stuff is a lot easier to navigate through the website. Cheers, Andy
Man, I have ALWAYS wanted to learn this song. One of my favourites. It's still on my workout play list. :-) (Can you give me the Chorus Pedal settings please? ) Thank you. :-)
Ian Bairnson was a great guitar player. His parts sounded simple, but they were deceptively difficult. But he played his parts around the chords, and he played through the chords.
great , just out of curiosity , Q = how do you get that cleab vibing tone ? ( ok i hear a great digital reverb ) but that nice sharp glassy tone reminds me of that hit that goes ; hey now , heay now , dont thinks its over , etc etc
Very, very cool lesson. Thank you very much. Finally got this solo thanks to you!! Beautiful song of a classic album. I always liked the style of Bairnson. He's a very melodic player. Much underrated indeed. I see you also dedicated a lesson to 'I wouldn't want to be like you' of I Robot... Great. Can you please consider doing the solo of 'Gonna get your fingers burned' of the Eye in the Sky-album? It's a more complex solo compare to this one. Again, thank you very much! Great lesson!
Hey thanks Andy! I used your superb tutorials on a medley of Alan Parson's I released today....swing by the channel and see your tutorials in action ;) Man, that eye in the sky was really tough...got it fairly close but I had to learn all the drum parts etc also.....and I only give myself a week to do these...anywho, hope you enjoy and thanks again....discovered your channel last week and sub'd! Great stuff! 👍
I know you did Bron-yr-aur by Zeppelin but I was wondering if you could do one on Bron-yr-aur stomp since Page kills it and I can't seem to find an accurate tutorial on the way he plays it on Led Zeppelin 3
Thanks for all the great lessons. Two questions, what's the story with all the capitalized B's in the titles? And, can you do a lesson for "Kid" by the Pretenders?
This bloke ALWAYS sounds in tune and in tone. Awesome.

totally agree = a giant
He was so good. Very sad to hear about him passing away recently.

You wouldn't believe how many times i've yelled at my screen just( SHUT UP AND PLAY) you do a great job teaching.
it never gets boring hearing great solos being broken down😀
Thank you for this lesson. Made so much sense and was easy to follow. The extra jam track is just pure gold. You sir, are a legend. 🍻
Dude what a great breakdown. Player talk at player speed. Thanks for this one.

You've got the goods, you know how to deliver them - done with a relaxed, pleasant quality- good job!

That weird chord shape at 6:25 is a Dmaj7 1st inversion in drop-2 formation - beautiful chord.
best YT instructional channel on ANYTHING...period. Thank you.
You are fantastic! You remind me of my guitar instructor who passed several years back...thank you!!
We can learn a lot of this solo yes, maybe because you explained it! Never say that is boring again! And by the way... Excellent work as ever and thanks for another song from Alan Parsons.
Man that was an awesome run through. Your tone is killer and your musicianship top notch 🙌 Greetings and Subscribed from Melbourne Australia ✌️🇦🇺
Love it!

Brilliant break down of this classic track. We thank you. Much love from India.
That’s a beautiful interpretation of a classic Alan’s Project in a gorgeous LP guitar!
As always excellent job, I never get enough from this solo, I think is too short.
Brilliant lesson! No, the theory is never too much (nor boring). It's necessary and really helps!
You're a great teacher and player. Thanks for sharing. :)
Once again just great Andy..... Love your stuff. There's none better on YT. You should consider being a session man. Your talent is just enviable.
The keyboard parts you play starting at around 4 minutes reminds me of the song "Lady" from the Little River Band, which is beautiful. BTW: You are my favorite guitar player/musician. Thank you 👍.

Love your videos, keep it up. I’d love to see you do a lesson on how to play 25 or 6 to 4, by Chicago.
Excellent tutorial! thank you. I wish you played the whole thing once throughout.
