    bought this 1 month Ago.It's Cheap and fun for all, Quick Autofocus Except live view, Effective VC. however,A softness at wide open, No Full-time Manual Focus, Narrow Focus distance is disturb me, but not that much. really happy with this lens :D. if you want a better one, you can spend for sigma 18-200mm OS Macro C for better image quality, or spend for fix lens instead.

    Nice review. I’m going back and forth between this lens and the Canon 18-135. I like the extra zoom on this one but I’m wondering if the Canon would be a better quality lens.

    Hey! So, I have an M50, I was going back and forth between this and the EF-M 18-150 and I went with this one, after a lot of research, forums, samples, videos. Your review helped seal the deal. I cannot wait for mine to come in the mail.

    @Dustin Abbott..is this lens compatible with the Nikon D5200 ??? pls help

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Swapnil Panchal (Sappu) It is definitely compatible. Should you switch? If you want the convenience of one lens, yes. Image quality will be roughly the same, but you can have the whole focal range in one light, compact body.

  • @marioplus321

    I used to have the older version. To tell you the truth, I liked it much. Although It was rather noisy while AF,the picture it produced was highly usable up to 150mm;over that it was a little bit soapy/dull and lost some contrast.However,all of that could be corrected in post-processing. Last but not least-a good review!

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +marioplus321 Thanks. The AF issue is definitely solved, and I would think the IQ is improved as well. This lens really has pretty good bang for the buck!

    Thank you for the review. I've just gotten this lens and found it amazing that it took better pictures than I anticipated. Sharpness was unexpected when I coupled it to an EOS-M camera. I have a 70D and will be testing it on that too. To me it's sharper than the Tamron 18-270 PZD lens

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

    I bought the Nikon version of this lens brand new in box for $150 on eBay; just kind of lucked out because the lady had sold her Nikon body and moved to Canon. She even sent the receipt and I successfully registered the warranty with Tamron! This lens gets a lot of flak in some reviews but for $250 it has excellent build quality, image stabilization, and I love the pictures I've taken with it (on a Nikon D5500). Nice review, thank you for the video. If Tamron isn't sending you review lenses they should. :)

      It's really quite a decent lens for the bargain price tag. I do get loaners from many companies, retailers, distributors, and the brands themselves.

    Great Video. It was in depth. Got this lens for Nikon D3300 instead of the Kit Lens. Having it for the past year and a half. In my opinion, it is a better alternative for kit lenses. I'll suggest this for all amateur photographers who don't want to spend a lot on equipments. Contemplating on getting a Nikkor 40mm f/2.8g for macro. And I would also like your opinion on getting an affordable lens (like Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6) for shooting say the moon and birds. I'd also want your opinion on an affordable wide angle lens for a crop sensors. I saw a 10mm Nikkor lens which turns out to be 27mm for a crop sensor.
    Thanks

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 10mm lens on a Nikon crop will be a 15mm equivalent - still very wide.

    How does it compare with the kit lenses? in quality and sharpness. both Nikon and Canon. As I want a travel lens and is tired of changing my 18-55 with 55-200 while traveling.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +mosamaster My experience says that the image quality is pretty similar over the focal range overlap. It's been a while since I've used one of those kit lenses, so this isn't a scientific observation, but I am very familiar with what to expect from a broad range of lenses.

    Dear Dustin, good review. I use a Nikon D3000 with the 18-55mm kit lens and 50mm f/1.8G prime lens. I am thinking of getting a nice zoom lens that covers wide angle as well as good zoom(not extreme zoom) for wildlife and macro. I think I'd go with this lens since the Tamron 70-300 VC costs a lot and I'd happy to get this as well upgrade my DSLR to a D7000/D7100 body.

    • @JyotiDeka1989

      Dustin Abbott I have one question if you don't mind answering.
      I am not a sports or fast action photographer and a megapixel fanboy. So I am still contemplating whether to go for D7000 or D7100. I am not concerned on getting an outdated body.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jyoti Deka
      Under those circumstances you are probably fine going with the D7000. The single biggest thing for me would be the improved AF performance of the D7100, but I suspect the focus system in the D7000 is quite adequate as well.

    Well done +Dustin Abbott, another great video! I may go for this Tamron instead of the canon 55-250 because I like to travel light and my sling bag will appreciate a smaller lens. Could clearly see the difference between both in this video.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      I've never tested that combination. It should work in theory.

    • @JamesDKyrts
      @JamesDKyrts 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It WILL vignette shooting stills. Heavily. Though it should combat the crop factor of 1.6 on 4k video. The thing is that this lens, together with a couple of others, like the 17-50mm f2.8, is designed for crop sensor bodies, but still uses the ef (not the ef-s) mount. So it is one of the few options, for crop lenses, to use with a speed booster, as ef-s lens' back protruding rubber-ring, hits the glass element, much like hitting the mirror, when trying to fit it in a full frame body.

  • @bernardosilva7306

    as far as Nikon is concerned how do you think this fares against the Nikon 18-140 which comes with the D5500, I think there is a good competition.
    the Nikon is brighter, but it's costly, bigger, weights more & has less zoom but costs less when bought with the Camera as a kit lens.
    would like to see a comparison between them.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

I'm little bit confused among all these lenses, please help me out to pick one or you can suggest if something is better than these -

      In that case I would recommend adding the 55-250 STM. It's a great match to your kit lens and offers excellent image quality. The 18-200 VC is a great one lens alternative, but the image quality isn't quite as good as the two lens kits I've recommended.

    Dear Sir, I am currently looking for an all purpose lens like this for my APS-C DX Nikon D5300 and thus have come across this video. I have a question however. I have this Tamron 18-200 and the Nikkor 18-140g lens on my radar. Which would be a better choice. Will it be the TAMRON which is providing a better reach at 200mm at the longer end or the Nikon one which I presume is better in terms of sharpness and image quality ? If that is the case , how far does this Tamron lie behind the Nikkor lens in terms of image quality ?

      James, I'm sure you can appreciate that very few reviewers are using a lens like this in that kind of application. That being said, if you stop down to apertures like f/8 I see no reason why this lens couldn't produce decent results. It is not a premium portrait lens, though, so you shouldn't expect it to be. If shooting portraits is your primary purpose, then you might want to look at an 85mm prime instead.
