    Happy to see that your first demo of the camera was at night during a rain/snow drizzle, since this is exactly the harsher environment where accidents happen. I haven't seen any rear facing camera that clearly picks up license plates, especially at night, but they still provide important information, such as weather conditions, the light mode at intersections and still clearly show the fault of another driver that fails to break and slams into your ass end or T-bones from the side and clips the back of your vehicle.

    Most likely it has nothing to do with temperature, I think it just focuses on the reflection of your interior off your windshield. And when it gets cloudy the reflection is obviously greatly reduced. Thats why there is a discrepancy with the focus quality.

    Got mine, and image quality is good enough. Your tint is reflecting the interior during sunny days causing the focus issue. I used a clear, high quality tint on my windshield and focus is as good as no tint.

    There is Capacitive lithium battery inside, not just liion. I've tried to replace it with regular liion (1100mAh) battery but there is some controller board over that Capacitive lithium battery and I've decided to pass this upgrade.

    Right on DT,
    I love watching your dash cam reviews.
    9:35 The $180USD Viofo A129 Plus Duo was released almost 2 years ago, (Sept 2020). And it’s still my top pick for Best Budget 2-Channel. Value for money, quality, durability, reliability, after sale tech support are good. My favorite stand out features are 60fps on the front channel, and a separate processor located in the rear camera housing to share the heat generation so the front main unit can run cooler. Based on the current offerings, is there anything better than this for the same price? And is it this worth making a review on 2 years later?
    If not, how about testing the AZDOME M300S? It’s currently on Amazon US for $120 with a $30 off coupon making it only $90. 4K front & 1080p rear, Super Capacitor instead of lithium battery, Built-in GPS. No mention of image sensor, or processor though.

      Hey Chuck, I've looked into the Azdome M300S in the past. Azdome offered a sample but I didn't take them up on it because, if I recall correctly, it uses a 5MP sensor and it's actually not real 4K. I didn't want to accept a sample and potentially bias my comments on it! Now I've grabbed a few cams from Amazon (Chortau I think?). 13,000 some odd reviews and because I paid my own money I can be honest about my experiences. Not much on the camera on TH-cam anywhere so I'm incredibly skeptical.

    Someone needs to release an intentionally hackable/upgradeable/open source action/dash cam. Half the problems of these budget options are fixable in firmware or via lens swaps but they all make it damn near impossible to work on them.

    • @DrekiTech
      @DrekiTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just want a dashcam that's a bit more modular - processor unit stuck under the dashboard and all cameras are remote. Three benefits: less heat exposure, can be a bit larger, and if the camera units are stolen the SD card will still be safe. It could even be screwed in place. Maybe 1 box can support up to X channels, just add extra cameras as you build out your system. No idea why so few camera makers do this.

    My problem with capacitor type dashcams are their RTC batteries and how hard it is to replace. The DDPAI Z40 was great until the RTC battery (ML621) failed. Although I know how to solder, the PCB copper broke. I had it only for 6 months.

    Hmm, I live in Europe, by a sea, a climate here... Let's say it's more like Southern Canada, winters are *mostly* mild lately, yet sometimes get below -20..-30°C, while it gets over +33°C in summers sometimes, thus battery may indeed be an issue. So I looked up for Viofo A119-G V3 in a local shop - "below 100" turned out to be exactly 99 Euros, will look elsewhere too before deciding.

    Im checking this one and a Garmin Cam 57. I used to have the old version of the 70mai Pro with the optional ADAS/GPS module but I sold it with my car to a friend.
    Im not sure if the added resolution (4K) would make it up for the issues with focus and brightness.

    • @chrisgraham2904
      @chrisgraham2904 ปีที่แล้ว

      4K sounds good for marketing, but I've come to the conclusion that no dashcam shooting at 30fps is going to pick up details, like license plates of moving vehicles. 1080P at 60fps is superior to 4K at 30fps.

    its not a lense quality issue, its focused on the reflection of your HUD, since thats the biggest thing infront of the camera. tilt the camera a lil bit higher. disappointed you didn't pick up on this since you're a tech channel.

  • @ghp0518
    @ghp0518 ปีที่แล้ว

    One important information.
    If you have a radar detector this will give laser alerts very often in the 0.1-0.3 wavelength - possibly to other drivers facing you also, and this happens even with ADAC off meaning it must be using lidar and it doesn't turn it off - or it could also be using it for focus.
    This is a big inconvenience, wish they didn't add these unnecessary annoying features to a camera , especially since ADAC is the car's job not the camera

      @@SUHABOUT 4K dashcams tend to run hot in warm climates regardless. Look for a cam with a capacitor, such as the viofo A119 or A129 series, they're quite a bit more expensive but tend to be better in hot weather.

    Yo DT,
    Could I get your thoughts on the Ordro EP7 for $230USD on amazon?
    I'm thinking about upgrading the camera I use to film my TH-cam videos.
    I currently use a Sony HDR-AS200V Action Cam I bought in 2015 for $300USD.
    It still works, but it feels a little dated.
    -Chuck

    • @DrekiTech
      @DrekiTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you need a head mounted camera specifically? Ordro, I don't know them that well, I've not tried their products before. This hardware definitely looks pretty cool.
      Part of me is always skeptical with companies like these because it looks like for the most part they're taking already available products and putting their brand name on it. Like they're not manufacturing/developing their own items.
      This isn't always an issue (for example Akaso does this and they're pretty wildly successful in the low end action cam market) but at the same time if they're not designing their hardware there's a higher chance that some features will be subpar and there's not going to be much for firmware upgrades down the line.
      I'm especially skeptical because of the other low end cams Ordro offers, those terrible handycam style camcorders with fixed lenses and fake zoom.
      Unless you're specifically looking for head mounted, the best camera you've likely got will be a phone. Older iPhones for example go in the $250-350 range on eBay (ie iPhone 11) and you'll have much more flexibility with that in terms of autofocus and settings, that sorta thing.
      But of course you can't mount that to your head as easy!
      Techmoan did some videos on the Ordro EP6, the prior model, check it out and maybe their newest model will improve on some things:
      th-cam.com/video/5MT3RHN3Vi0/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/Y6b4J77d6XI/w-d-xo.html
      If you're considering alternatives to head mounted cams, also look into the DJI Osmo Pocket at about $200, it's a pretty neat little device to film out and about with.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrekiTech
      Yes, that is the killer for me.
      I specifically need a head mounted camera to keep both my hands free.
      I mount my Sony on a pair of safety glasses, and wear it just like the Ordro.
      It works great.
      Just 1080p60 from 2015 is looking a little dated.
      I’ve tried box shaped cameras like the gopro and they just don’t work for my application.
      Let me go look at the DJI Osmo Pocket, and see if I can mount that to my head. Lol
