  • The complete subway system in Toronto, Canada.
The Toronto subway is a rapid transit system serving Toronto and the neighbouring suburb of Vaughan in Ontario, Canada, operated by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). It is a multimodal rail network consisting of three heavy-capacity rail lines operating predominantly underground and one elevated medium-capacity rail line, collectively encompassing 75 stations and 76.9 kilometres (47.8 mi) of track. In 1954, the TTC opened Canada's first underground rail line then known as the Yonge subway, under Yonge Street between the existing Union railway station and Eglinton Avenue with 12 stations. With an average of 915,000 passenger trips each weekday recorded during the fourth quarter of 2017, the system is Canada's second busiest after the Montreal Metro and second longest by track length after the Vancouver SkyTrain. ~Wikipedia

I remember the old subways when they were common (i think they are called h5s) I would get on them with my parents when i was a kid or sometimes by myself in my later years of being a kid, i miss the sounds they made when they were slowing down and accelerating, i live in a city 45 minutes away from toronto and i drive to the city i was born in relatively frequently, i took the subway 2 days ago when i visited just for the fun of it knowing it would bring childhood memories back, i was wrong

Heh, I'm doing a project on my computer on expanding the metro & light rail system in Toronto. On my project, it will comprise 545.8 km of subway (or underground as we brits call) and light rail! And that is the subway and light rail excluding the Toronto streetcar lines!
In fact, the system would have 15 lines in total (both metro and light rail) with lines extending as far out as Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Markham!!!! This would make Toronto's system very comparable to Europe and Asia!
This is from someone who wants to be involved in transport projects in the future, and especially during the coronavirus emergency forcing me to stay at home, I felt that doing Transport projects on my computer would be something very fun!

I have to say that I was shocked when I noticed how small the subway system of Toronto is. I have lived in Sydney and Melbourne on Australia and was impressed by how advanced their transit is down there!! On top they are also adding a metro line like in Paris (underground and yes it comes on top of the current transit that already exist in Sydney). On transit side, I am sorry to say but Australia does a much better job than Canada, even Vancouver!
Now 2 years ago, I have been to Santiago de Chile! You know what??? They had 4 lines of underground trains! It is really not bad knowing that Chile is still a developing economy!!!!! Canada should do way better for wheee it stands now! It just shouldn’t be happy with “good enough” when it comes to transit! Even the French speaking Canadians in Montreal seem to be way better than Toronto in terms of transit system!
And you know what is the worst or… the best???? Even AFRICA has some acceptable transit:
