@@FredButEvenWorse nope, till 2023 hits thats when they scrap all Mk1's due to old age. They might use one of the new bombardier models especially the Mk2's or Mk3's depending on TTC's decisions
This was my first visit to Toronto - I actually live in Vancouver, BC where we have a similar - though much larger - system known as 'SkyTrain' - you can see two videos of that in my upload list ;-)
Also, I should add that I have heard that in recent coming years, they are scrapping Line 3 and extending Kennedy station to Scarborough Town Centre. These Trains are old enough to be scrapped.
PPE: Hearing protection should be mandatory for drivers. This aging RT line is SO noisy, it easily exceeds recommended safe db levels for prolonged exposure. There WILL be hearing loss for long time drivers of these buckets of bolts.
That's exactly what it is - both these and the Mk1 Skytrains in Vancouver, BC are the UTDC ICTS Mk1 trains. Toronto does not have Mk2 or Mk3 trains as they are too long to negotiate the curve at Kennedy Station. Furthermore the line is set to be replaced in the next five years by an extended subway from Kennedy and also (tentatively) a new streetcar route.
Damn. How could you live in Vancouver and not have had a chance to ride the SkyTrain? You're actually deprived. If you go the best time is off peak hours on a clear day
The platforms aren't large enough, there aren't enough cars and the Mk1s are no longer produced. Mk2s and Mk3s cannot be accommodated due to the platforms and the tight curve at Kennedy station. Eventually the line will need to be modified for three-car Mk3 trains, or demolished altogether. Unfortunately I see the latter option being the most likely.
@@jayvonnoelsmith8445 the line and it's trains are old. 40 years. It needs lots of repairs since lots of the line has probably already started to rust and decay. Even here in Vancouver we're starting to get rid of the MK1s with the MK5.
Prometheus Crystal same builder - Bombardier. I just wish they could have made them more visually appealing. Why do most North American trains have to be boringly metal-coloured?
Not going to happen. The MK3 and MK2 trains are too long for the Kennedy curve. Only Mk1 trains have sufficient clearance for it. Also they've rather opted to extend the subway to Scarborough instead of upgrading the ICTS line, so ten years from now that route will likely be torn down.
Year 2000 2st Generation and 2010 3rd Skytrain are wider by 1 Feet each Side. TTC Scarborough RT Dont have the Width in is Platform as is already Max out at Kennedy Station. North side is Unloading and South side is to Load. Newer Train is 1.5 times vs Old Length. not possible to make the Cut. TTC is more Focus service repairing Subway. Main Street Science World Vs Kennedy Station > 3 times Tighter turning Can't put the Canada Line train into Skytrain line Wider by min 5 Feet. Skytrain design better in compare to Scarborough RT
I actually got off there once during winter 10 years ago. I thought it was just like Lawrence East with the Ellesmere bus going under the bridge but I had to climb the hill instead and when I reached the street, my boots was filled with snow. No wonder it is the least used station.
I don’t care how loud the RT is I think it is an underrated service that we have. I will definitely miss them when they are gone
In 2025 they planning to make it the ontario line and the rts might be in it

@@RandomTransits wait, they'll be using the MK3s? I thought they're using Hitachi trains.
they're gone now, they were originally supposed to close this weekend, but due to a derailment at Ellesmere on July 24th, the srt is no more
When I rode the scarborough RT, it was noisy as hell. but I like the new blue design with the map on top. Nice vid. Liked and subbed

Vancouver is going to be doing the same with our MK1's, and the first variants of the MK2's. They're gonna be replaced by the longer, 5-car MK5's
Odd how some of the line 3 train cars are wrapped in blue with a "3 bullet" pasted in a random location in the window at the end of the car
Those are overhauled cars
PPE: Hearing protection should be mandatory for drivers. This aging RT line is SO noisy, it easily exceeds recommended safe db levels for prolonged exposure. There WILL be hearing loss for long time drivers of these buckets of bolts.
These RT's are loud, and it sounds like they haven't greased the axles in forever, it sounds so rusty.
waffledude111111 and some people say that the Scarborough RT is new technology they don't know how garbage it is
The TTC refused to buy a rail grinder blaming costs reasons; this allowed flat spots and wear to develop on the wheels causing much of the noise.
It's because they didn't automate them
gencreeper the rt is automatic
I love the blue Rt wen I went on ,it wus loud but I love it
that train looks like the mark 1 skytrain

gencreeper look I never have the time to ride one because when I was little I almost got hit by a train so I'm scared of trains
I can't wait when you are paying a giveaways? I am your big fan bro. I like your channel. Good Job!
How can theses trains handle these sharp curves?
Sharon Watkins The ICTS Mark 1 trains were designed with sharp curves in mind.
I believe the wheels are not on fixed axles
It uses articulated bogies, basically the front and rear wheels of each bogie can be steered in the direction of the track.
And the cars are only about 50ft long
Those sound just like Vancouver
Same trains, same traction motors - just subtle differences between the two.
+Welwyn22 What are the differences?
Probably very minor stuff such as the door operations (opening, closing, door chime), announcements and the interior design.
Biggest difference is the driver cab on the RT, vs no driver cab in Vancouver and Detroit.
The RTs in Toronto are driver-operated, while the SkyTrain in Vancouver are self-operated & driverless.
10:31 those chimes 🥹
The Scarborough RT is amazing keep it do a protest
nice trains, so how often do they come by the Kennedy station?
They were quite frequent from what I recall, usually less than five minutes apart.
Quite frequent.
How the trains are powered?
D'Angelo Hartley Electrically, third rail. (Except line 3 which uses third rail plus linear motors).
Wait, is the Mark 1 DC or AC?
@@SRBAnimate DC 600 volts
Hate how the T1s have no side signs to tell you where they're going.
They don't really need it. The destinations are Kennedy and Kipling, that's it. It's not like there are four or more places the train could end up.
Cool sound
Why does the leaving sound sounds like SkyTrain???
The cars are identical to SkyTrain cars (UTDC MK1s)

And they are too large for the balloon loop at Kennedy Station
Can anyone else smell this video at 8:10 or is it just me?
Why does it sound like a Mark I SkyTrain?
Because it IS a Mark I SkyTrain. Toronto's Line 3 is identical to Vancouver's SkyTrain in almost every way.
Jasmine Johnston and the innovia metro 100 is also in detroit
It is there are 3 operators:TransLink,TTC and Detroit People Mover
What is with the new livery on the mark1s?
+Stylishtrains (JeumontForever) we recently "Modernized the line" and so the liveries where updated.
Is there anything else that's different?
nope, except the small track upgrades, still as useless as ever
OK thanks
does the rt and TTC still use operators? on the newvsubways?
