The rate of pedophilia among any profession in a position of power over children, like school teachers and priests of other religions is 5-7%. That among catholic priests is about 4%. Its the same for all, people to claim its catholic specific ignore statistics.

"I think what knits all of this together is" that there are priest (451 and 500 for example) who are supposed to be priest and not predators. They are supposed to teach us for us to find our way to God and instead have managed to turn people from God.

Man the Christian church and the Catholic Church have the same believe of Jesus Christ and God but the only thing that makes me suspicious is that the Catholic Church how created man rules about religion things that if you look in the scriptures go against on what they say but yet people follow it because of tradition or how they were brought up Catholic Church basically owns an interest on any type of government financial institutions and Banks and War and allow things out of the scriptures until their own believe and people are fine with that all you got to do is read the scripture if you're a strong believer

Steve 365. The following are statements from my original post. The first two show that I am NOT defending evil. The third one explains my motivation for the post and I provided official Government Figures to support my position. Why are you ignoring what is shown by the figures? Do you not want to have a better understanding of the SCALE of the issue? Why do you prefer to keep thinking that Catholic Priests are one of the most offending groups instead of one of the least offending groups (as shown by the official figures I provided? What does this say about the motivation for your decision to ignore what these figures show. Is your anti-Catholic bigotry stronger than your desire for an accurate and balanced understanding?
(My statements from the previous post)
'Firstly, it is important to state that Catholics acknowledge that there are some Priests that have abused their position. These men WILL BE JUDGED BY GOD WHEN THEY DIE AND SHOULD BE IMPRISONED WHEN CONVICTED.'
'Catholics also acknowledge that the CATHOLIC CHURCH'S RESPONSE HAS BEEN DISMAL AT TIMES. We freely acknowledge that we are a Church of sinners (like all other Churches).'
'I think, however, that it is also fair to say that the scale of the abuse has been significantly inflated. I believe that Catholics have the right, NOT TO EXCUSE THE ABUSE THAT HAS HAPPENED, but to try to counter this misinformation and the anti-Catholic prejudice that is out there

  • @fred3893

I apologise for the long post. I think it is necessary. I would just like to provide a bit of balance. Firstly, it is important to state that Catholics acknowledge that there are some Priests that have abused their position. These men will be judged by God when they die and should be imprisoned when convicted. Catholics also acknowledge that the Catholic Church's response has been dismal at times. We freely acknowledge that we are a Church of sinners (like all other Churches). I think, however, that it is also fair to say that the scale of the abuse has been signiicantly inflated. I believe that Catholics have the right, NOT to excuse the abuse that has happened, but to try to counter this misinformation and the anti-Catholic prejudice that is out there. After reading literally dozens of TH-cam sites that attack the Catholic Church on this issue, I took the trouble to research official U.S. Government figures on sexual abuse offenders. I find it sad, that NONE of the people who attack the Church have done so. I have provided the sources so that people can check them for theirselves.
Official figures from the United States Department of Health and Human Services show that, during the five years from 2009 - 2013, there were 315,000 cases (substantiated or found strong evidence) of children as victims of sexual abuse in the United States (an average of 63,000 per year). Over this 5 year period, 80% of the perpetrators were parents, 6% were other relatives, 4% were unmarried partners of a parent, 5% were child day-care providers , foster parents, friends and neighbours and legal guardians etc. The remaining 5% were ‘others’ (‘from Siblings to strangers’). (United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families, Children’s Bureau. Child Maltreatment Survey, 2013)
The above figures show that 95% of perpetrators of child sex abuse could not POSSIBLY be Priests.
This means that the number of priests involved lies somewhere in the 5% represented by ‘siblings to strangers’. After we have allowed for abuse by siblings, doctors, coaches, teachers, ministers of other religions (Christian, Muslim and Jew), unknown offenders etc., the chances of an offender being a Catholic Priest is looking almost negligible.
If you also take into account the fact that, according to the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website, an estimated 23% of reported cases of child sexual abuse are perpetrated by individuals UNDER THE AGE OF 18, and that, according to the National Centre for Victims of Crime, it is estimated that WOMEN are the abusers in about 14% of sexual abuse cases reported among boys and 6% of cases reported among girls, it seems that catholic priests are among the LEAST offending groups in society.
While these figures cover a five year period, data for the last 25 years are also available from these sources and show that these percentages have remained remarkably constant over the last quarter of a century.
Judging the scale of abuse by the NUMBERS of offenders instead of the PERCENTAGE of offenders from a particular section of society (such as Catholic Priests) can give a false impression. For example, I think it would be safe to say that there are a higher NUMBER of sexual abuse offenders in China than there are in Fiji. It would, of course, be unfair to assume that a Chinese person is more likely to commit sexual abuse than a Fijian person. There are over 400,000 Catholic Priests serving around the world today.
I hope these facts might give you something to think about. Thanks for your time.

Dude, the study sponsored by Catholic church (John Jay College... ) discovered more than 4% had been credibly accused of child sexual abuse. They assumed the numbers to be around 6%,because the church had destroyed most of these files. Don't be such a whitewasher of crimes for the church man!

As I said in my earlier post: "Catholics also acknowledge that the Catholic Church's response has been dismal at times. We freely acknowledge that we are a Church of sinners (like all other Churches)."
What about the facts I referred to that show Catholic Priests to be responsible for an extremely small percentage of child-abuse cases (Less than the average figure of 4% of the population). Do these figures not matter?

God didn't call them out, it was reporters from the Boston Globe that exposed this scandal. Your ineffective God just sat around and let it happen; he couldn't care less while people who supposedly represented him molested children. The Catholic Church is a corrupt organization which is why I left over 20 years ago and never looked back.

@@tahalaw2266 Thankfully I was not a victim of abuse but knew of some who were. My comment stands. If there is a God, he sat by and let this happen. Higher ups at the Vatican knew this was happening and were more concerned about the negative publicity than helping kids. So much for "conservative Christian values." It was "those crazy atheist liberal journalists" who exposed this. I am glad there are others who do not buy into the nonsense that is called religion.

The Bible speaks about this and tells us why these things happen both in Galatians 1:8 and in 1 Timothy 4:1-3
Gal 1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
1Tim 4:1-3 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

You can quote a book from 2000 years ago by whomever wrote it , the truth is, we only need common sense with no religious belief to know what the priest had done to the children is criminal, it's a crime.
