    I just used some rye cover crop in my glass. Then I covered it with Pepsi cover crop. And a couple frozen water bits! Always a good video. I never realized why Gleaner augers were like that. Makes good sense. That is for teaching me things

      Now days agreed, back in the day it was guy galvanized bin paint lol. They're awesome combines not picking on them, it's just they always used to be known as ugly lol. One guy always used to say he doesn't need to park his combine in a barn because the combine its self is a barn lol

    You might have to tarp truck to keep critters out of seed. Does settings have to be changed due to seeds being light? Less wind. Tighter Chaffer settings? Enjoyed

    In Ontario Canada , what you have there is "Cereal/Grain" Rye , historically used on Sandy , wind erroded tobacco type land. Todays modern cover crop agricultural , "Rye Grass" is common alone or blended (clover/radish/alfalfa/etc..) to achieve cover /green manure. Stupid stuff I know; the long straw of Cereal/Grain Rye is highly sought after for heavy horse collar💙👍

    Same thing I was thinking about the Johnson grass haha. Everyone still seems to have a passion of hatred for that stuff even though it's super easy to kill haha.
    We have some sketchy bridges and culverts too. One had a piece give way a few years ago and one of the older straight trucks we have, it's a single axle and it's right rear dual fell through. Scary and lost a little corn but no biggie. The bridge it's self used to hold trains so it is fine but the deck it's self was rotten. It's fixed now but still kind of sketchy crossing it haha. Combine crosses with only the inside duals touching lol.
    We use rye grass cover too on the fields near the river for erosion control during floods and for soil health. Compaction isn't really an issue with the sandy soil there, but the added plant material helps the soil. We no till into it in those fields and it helps hold moisture in the early stages too. Have it spread on with an airplane right before harvest and it comes up on its own after that.
    Awesome video as always!

    We use the heck out of rye for cover crops. We even graze yearlings on it until the first of March, let it grow for a few weeks and then burn it down to plant cotton in it. Sand is horrible for blowing, and horrible for low organic material. I don’t know what kind of roundup you use but ours kinda kills Johnson grass. Unless you hammer it late summer and then moldboard it, then it dies.

    • @JohnDoe-jq5wy

      The varieties of rye from 100 years ago...true. The new varieties have less resilience.
      Eastern Washington ag areas still deal with rye in the boarder areas of the fields... ROUND UP AND FLY IT ON.
      TRUE... the seed from the base rye family.... Does stay viable for 20 + years..

    We never grew rye but our neighbor would sow it and then pasture the hell out of in the spring. Then tear it up and put in soybeans. This would have been in the 1960’s.

  • @farmerallis
    @farmerallis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would recommend getting that seed cleaned prior to planting it unless you want a poor cover crop stand, especially if no fungicide went on it. Those kernels infected with fusarium will not have good germination and will actually inoculate your fields with Fusarium, which can infect your wheat and corn.
