You nailed it Biss, she could and did sing anything and in any genre she wanted to. Rock, country, pop, ballads, old school classics, jazz, opera, and mariachi (which I highly recommend checking out). Linda was blessed with those chops and we we're blessed to enjoy them.

Yes......"La Charreada"....the live version with Mariachi Vargas......Linda's voice will blow you away even more!
Or "Desperado", "Blue Bayou" to slow things down or "Tumbling Dice" (a cover of a Rolling Stones song that Mick Jagger loved what she did with it). Deep rabbit hole!

I will always point new LR listeners to her most underrated album and best, Prisoner In Disguise. One of those albums where every song is just SO good, if I start with the opener Love is A Rose, I'm not stopping until the end of Silver Blue. Every single track is just TOO good. Her voice is just staggering on that album, and her backing band were all superstar session musicians Russ Kunkel, Dan Dugmore, Kenny Edwards, Andrew Gold and others. The title track Prisoner In Disguise is the most beautiful duet and harmonies with legend JD Souther I think I've ever heard. Goosebump City every single time, even after nearly 50 years!

Senorita Biss, you pronounced the name Ronstadt perfectly! It's a German name because her great-grandfather immigrated to Mexico from Germany in the 1800s.
I saw a documentary on TV years ago - Johnny Cash was performing in one of the jails, Folsom or San Quentin. The inmates were very happy and let him know.
Then, Linda Ronstadt got onto the stage and the inmates went crazy! Linda ended up upstaging Johnny Cash and I am sure when they thought back later, the first thing that entered their mind was Linda.

From 1973 to the early 80s that show was our go to insight into pop music. If you were working late, or at a football game, you would rush home to catch whoever was premiering live on that channel (no video tape or DVR). There were great performances for free when you couldn't travel to concerts plus most folks didn't have the best home or car stereo so this was one of the better ways to see the artist and enjoy their personality. I don't know the etiquette between YT channels but those videos are how many of us experienced the music back then other than on vinyl.

A great artist on a great show and wonderfully reviewed. I hope you get to checkout more of her works; her, Cat Stevens, and especially Jim Croce were key parts of my childhood. I don't think any of their works were less than great, but their best was soul elevating. Neal Diamond would also be one you'd enjoy (any of his but "Solitary Man" always moved me the most and more and more with time)

Biss, there is a list a mile long of great Linda Ronstadt songs. She was one of the greatest singers on the planet without a doubt, especially when you consider all the different musical styles she sang to. Can I suggest a look at 'Heat Wave' (Live at Balboa Stadium, California 1975). She has the crowd eating out of her hand!

Hello, Bisscute! I know this isn't the first time you've reacted to Linda, but I can't help but say that she is an extremely interesting person with a rich cultural heritage.
Suffice it to say that her father, Gilbert Ronstadt, a businessman and musician, was of Mexican and German descent. The Ronstadt family in Tucson has roots dating back to the 19th century, with ancestors who emigrated from Sonora, Mexico. Her mother, Ruth Mary Copeman Ronstadt, was of English and Dutch descent.
Linda, for her part, was born and lives in the United States, but she never lost touch with her Mexican roots. She sings beautifully in Spanish, and that's precisely why my recommendation is for you to react to her performing La Cigarra (The Cicada) live, accompanied by a mariachi.
    Greetings from Mexico City!

Please check David Bromberg: I suggest "I will not be your Fool", "Suffer to Sing the Blues", or "Last Song for Shelby Jean".

Feelin' better, now that we're through
Feelin' better, cause I'm over you
I've learned my lesson, it left a scar
Now I see how you really are
You're no good, you're no good, you're no good
Baby, you're no good (I'm gonna say it again)
You're no good, you're no good, you're no good
    Baby, you're no good
I broke a heart, that's gentle and true
Well, I broke a heart over someone like you
I'll beg his forgiveness on bended knee
I wouldn't blame him if he said to me
You're no good, you're no good, you're no good
Baby, you're no good (I'm gonna say it again)
You're no good, you're no good, you're no good
    Baby, you're no good
    [Musical Interlude]
I'm telling you now baby, that I'm goin' my way
Forget about me baby, 'cause I'm leaving this day
You're no good, you're no good, you're no good
Baby, you're no good (I'm gonna say it again)
You're no good, you're no good, you're no good
    Baby, you're no good
    Oh, oh, no
You're no good, you're no good, you're no good
    Baby, you're no good

I was in college in the mid to late 70s and you couldn't walk into a bar without hearing this song blaring. I loved it. I love Linda! There is a great mash-up done with this version of Linda and Amy Winehouse doing You Know You're No Good. It's worth a peek: th-cam.com/video/cmHX7wzx2ps/w-d-xo.html
