This. Can't agree more and these are wise words I followed myself when I acquired my still in possession set of 1200mk2s. I got the pitch bump removed, fixed the tracking lights the dickhead before me tried to fix but only ended up making the service rep jobs harder, resoldered the RCAs with earthing so there's no separate earthing cable. It was so worth the money and they serviced it too cost me fuck all about 200 to 300 Aussie dollars, the 2 second hand tables cost me 800 AUD for the set. Only 2-3 years later I could have sold them easily for 1200 to 1500.
Bought my 1210s in 1998 and still going strong in 2021. Made a lot of women happy with me playing my decks. Sexiest thing I’ve ever had the privilege off. Pitch still perfect but lights fading! Long live the 1210! Oh I also bought a 3rd one to to show off x
My advice is that any vintage piece of Technics equipment, which I must say age magnificently, don't think you can just watch a few videos and wing your way through a load of shit you would only know you were getting yourself into beforehand, if you actually knew what you were doing. Use the time you will waste destroying what is left of the endangered specie you happened upon and investigate a service and repair store with outstanding reputation and plenty of happy customer reviews and get them to do all the mods and upgrades and service it. Trust me you will save money and end up with an awesome turntable and if you look after it that thing will probably go another 20 years who knows they seem to last forever I've never seen one fuck itself without the intervention of a human being so as I said, be good to her, and she will give you more than you ever asked for.
Big thanks for this post. I'm going to look at 2 SL1200 MK3D turntables tomorrow for my son. I'm not very knowledgeable in this field so this information is very valuable.
Check the platter too. When I took mine off to clean it. the Shaft came up with it. The the turntable still works great but the guy from eBay got over on me.
Another tip that I could contribute is to bring someone who you can trust that is knowledgeable about these 1200s with you when you buy these used... I bought from ebay and got one with defective RCA cables which was internally damaged! Or spend the extra money for piece of mind buying them from a pro dj shop, Guitar center or turntable lab! It never pays to be a penny wise to be a dollar foolish!
Ray H this both turntables was bought from guitar center. I’m a technician and I fix turntables, and I don’t even like to take the risk of buying 1200s on Ebay or reverb ..lol
When I bought my personal 1200s, I bought them at Guitar Center as well and at that time they offered a 30-day return policy...also 2 weeks after purchase I got an email with the option of buying an extended warranty This was back in 2013!
Its has a great concept but I prefer one set of outputs on each 1200! Although I like that they use metal like the original plate over the ice cold customs where they use something like cardboard! I own a pair of the ICC where I just took off the jacks and used RF shielding sheet tape, cut out the holes and placed the jacks back on, in business!
I will NEVER forget one day, i bricked my new technics turntable, i bought it from an importer in australia, and he got it direct from japan i think it was,. and it was set to 110volts, it powered on then died instantly. Cooked the board. We use 220volts.
Gutted I ordered my 1210s in 1999 I was 17, I ordered them from an ad in music mag. I was pissed I had to cut the plug off and put a uk plug on I was so mad but I checked and noticed the volt setting. I'll never forget it was Xmas time and u came home from Xmas party and could resist opening them smashed
I’m telling everyone right now in 2022 if you’re planning on buying a pair of technics 1200s mk2, mk3, mk3d, mk5, or m5g turntables, buy it now while you still can. I guarantee you the pice will double over the next 2 years. Because now 12 years since the above models have been discontinued the oem parts lot has depleted to nothing left from Panasonic and people that I work with are now buying used 1200s by the truckload just to take them apart and sell them as parts. Mark my words the average price for a used mk2 in fair condition without a dust cover is around $600. Next year they will average $900 each in fair condition.
I recently received a really good condition mk2 (with a dust cover) including shipping from Japan for just over 600 dollars. Such a lovely thing! I'm gonna hand it over to my grandkids one day.
Great video My ground wire is too short from vinyl to amp. Now i could use a pre amp but then it wont work with the phono input on my amp. I could also get a cable with double-sided cable lug but it doesnt fit my Technics FG servo SL-BD22D Turntable (it has a round ground wire input) Any suggestions? Thx
Hey I really like your videos they have helped me understand a lot and what to look for when it comes down to buying technic 1200 . I would like if you can do a full review on the pioneer plx500 turntable and add in if the feet of the technic 1200 fit on the pioneer plx 500 and of the lights on the plx500 can be changed thanks again great videos
And have your well constructed list of questions and review requests been tailored for e102 77? Anything to say about this DJ ROCK-CEE? I won't hold my breath.
When you checking tonearm with antiskate and you put it on 0 does the tonearm have to float towards record ? Only one of my decks does without me bumping it . My left deck will float towards record if I give it a lil bump though. Both arms float back to clip when moving antiskate up in numbers.. ive been reading not all decks float towards record on there own when on 0 .. is this true? 🤔

Nothing wrong with mk5g pitch! It is better than pioneer cdj pitch! You can get by with it and it never needs replacing or calibrating. Dont know why people moan its fine!
Hi great vid it helped, what mark 1210’s would everyone advise getting? I’m new to it all, everyone talks about mk2’s a lot but not sure. I’m not skint but 1200 even second hand cost a fortune! Any ideas would be really helpful 👍
Duck Hunter hey man, a great recommendation could be the mk3’s from Japan, as the RCA cables aren’t hardwired into the unit. this presents possible power problems though, as advised in the video, so be cautious! mk2’s are the classic dj deck as well, couldn’t go wrong with those either
@@duckhunter8203 hell yeah man! im looking into one for myself right now, eyeing a 1500 for fairly cheap that's been serviced in my area. good luck with your search bud
Can you explain the pitch fader and the “0” you’re talking about? Want to make sure mine is calibrated correctly. Is the 0 only on the mk5 and not mk2?
@Tony Jaksn Did you seriously expect that guy to get all that without first taking note on the angle of his question and clear lack of knowledge? Haha, fuck me that was funny. Keep doing that shit though, I like to happen across random smart people in the most unexpected of places.
I remember the first day i bought my boxed decks. The first mistake i made was accidently switch the voltage when it was on! Lol i had to take it back to get fixed cos it wouldnt even turn on! Lol
The tonearm on these is piss poor, change it for a rega or origin live,we have a company in the uk that does upgrades/improvements aimed at dj's.Most will drastically improve sound quality.
If you manage to find a ridiculously good deal that's too good to be true, buy them anyway and just get them serviced.
eun nice I snagged a pair that were owned by a Christian Radio Station, best $300 I ever spent.
I bought a 1200mk2 for.... 80$ 😬 and its near mint!!!
Just bought a pair of mk2 1210 today £400 😀

I have a pair of PRISTINE 1210 MK2s bought back in ‘96. Wonder what they’re worth now?
i give you 2000 euros for :D

The uk voltage is 240v!🙂
Marvin L thank you !!!! For clearing it up for us !!! 😀
230v for the UK.
Tony Jaksn You’re wrong nominal voltage in uk is 230v single phase
Great video can you tell me what the quick Connect end of the tone arm is called ,What you thread and change out cartridges/ stylus
It is called the locking nut
Love it
Thank you !!!!!
Bit basic but clearly lots of practical knowledge there from years from experience
There is a 1210 MK2 going for £380.00 in the pawn shop where I live!
Do I buy it, I'm worried it might not be up to standard!
Never never never chance one from there.
M5gs arent that good for deejaying. Imo... im not keen on digital pitch
Digital pitches feel like shit I won't touch them. They really destroy the magic of vinyl and I find them unnatural.
