I am character artist....but I just loved the environment in the show....its so beautiful and detailed...and still very stylized....I got inspired to work on my environment paintings....

I would love a BTS about the shading of the characters. It feels like you guys completely relight their faces separately from the rest of the model.

2-D mixed with 3-D is always the best. It works really well...;)
That depends on how they do it. Overlord 3 and Berserk are prime examples of 'doesn't work'.
This is one of those shows you wish would never end but infortunately, it will end eventually

this is so cool the environments look so pretty
awesome video, there was way more 2D than i expected, but the way it was handled by using cards just makes total sense. you have very talented texture and matte artists that really succeed in blurring the lines of what is 2D and 3D. loved watching how it's all done. i hope we get to have a peek at the character modelling/rigging/animation process some day :)

It's so interesting to see these backgrounds coming to life in the series, sucking us in and in this video, all of a sudden... nothing. The immersion goes poof. It's the magic of animation.

the way they combined the two styles is so seamless, i find myself appreciating the animation the more i watch it. this is one of the many reasons i love this show!

Rayla isn't the type of person to steal something she doesn't need, and since she already had blades, I don't think this one would have been useful

My question is, if doing this all in CGI is such a hassle when it comes to doing it on a tv schedule, why do it in 3D at all?
My best guess is time. Both CGI and traditional 2D takes a while and 2D can't usually be done in house. This mixture allows for flexibility and efficiency but is to experimental.
