- Forging Rayla's Butterfly Blades from the show The Dragon Prince offered a new and exciting challenge for me. I used traditional blacksmithing techniques to forge and shape these unique blades. It was a wonderful opportunity to take a complex animated object and bring it to life. What began as pure fiction is now a reality. I can't wait to have more projects like this in my shop!

No wayyyy!!! I worked on the show and helped design the blades for Rayla and Runaan along with fellow designer Andy Poon. They were super fun to concept out and I remember that I built both Rayla’s and Runaan’s blades in 3D early in the design phase so that we could test the hinges, turning radius and get a cool scale with the characters so that everything felt natural and told the story of the characters. I remember thinking, man I’m spending way too much time figuring this stuff out and potentially “over engineering” it but now I’m so proud of my past self 🥹
You did such an amazing job building those in real life! Your dedication and patience for the details is truly inspiring. I especially love your attention to detail on the etching on the blades. *Chefs kiss*
OH MY GOODNESS!!! This means so much to me! When I was reverse engineering them I could tell that someone spent a LOT of time designing them accurately!! You did an amazing job!

Thank you!! We talked about making the other functions, but Netflix had a very small window of time and I wasn’t able to add those components.
So it is actually possible?? I couldn't figure out how it can work the way it does in the show.
This is what I was hoping to see. I really wanted to know if they could really do that and still look like they do in the show.

There not a doubt in my mind. The reason they feel and function so well is the man that brought them to life. The series does a great job illustrating the creation of the blades. The masterpiece is in the Smith's gift the bring them to life!

Those are a beautiful display of your talent, although if I'm being nitpicky, the only thing I'm not completely in love with is the color. In the show, they're more of a VERY dark teal with brighter teal details. But even so, they still look amazing in those colors.

Sir, the details 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Those blades are incredible, but watching you draft the layout for the blades … and then realizing you drafted a life sized guide … 🙌🏼 . I geeked out every time you layed a piece on top of the draft and it was a perfect fit 😂. I love every single detail of this process.

This is phenomenal craftsmanship - my jaw dropped seeing how seamlessly these blades swung on the hinges in the end. Seeing you wield it and flick it open was phenomenal! With so many moving parts it truly blows my mind the accuracy you were able to get!

I'm still fairly new to the show, but I've almost completed my second runthrough of seeing the entire series (I have yet to see season five. Yes, it just released very recently), and I! Am! Hooked!
Like, I seriously can't get enough of it, especially rayla! She is my absolute favorite character and I just absolutely admire and adore her!

Only just stumbled upon your video and to see this as the almost first knife / weapon build on the channel it’s insane how much effort and time you put into this one, you just have to keep on doing them there is people that try but making something from a show movie or game to functional reality is so satisfying and isn’t being done enough, i need to see some fantasy looking katana or Odachi, can’t wait for the next build take care.

I clicked so fast. This combines two of my favorite things, The dragon prince and blacksmithing and OMG they turned out perfect! Literally the only difference from the show is the final length of the blade (which, duh, that’s magic) and (presumably) the maker’s mark. These are beautiful! My goal is now to one day be able to make my own replica of these, which will probably take a decade or two since the only thing I’ve forged so far is a mediocre leaf, but still.

I am also a huge fan of dragon prince and Rala is my number one favorite and her blades are so cool
Usually anything this size balisong-wise is just unwieldy. There have been a few made out there, usually from Battle Angel Alita, and usually they just barely function. These also look like they wouldn't quite function for flipping due to the way the latch works; it looks similar in concept to a Mantis Vuja De Karambisong in that it latches open automatically when the handles strike together, which does not work very well for actual tricks.
Truly, though, it's the blade on these that is most striking to me. You nailed the flow of the design. Beautiful work. I'd really love to see how one of these would turn out in traditional balisong size (around 9-11 inches open) with a more traditional latch. They don't have the extreme curve of the CS: GO balisongs, closer to that of like a Bradley Mayhem, and it was an absolutely amazing flipper.
Nice, full size Balisongs. Kind of remind me of Navajas too.

I somehow missed this video. It is a beautiful pair of knife/swords. I noticed when you open and closed them you were very mindful of blade. Even dull they can pinch a finger off
