    I LOVE THRIFTING!!

  • @regs3941

The point of gift giving is for me to gift someone something they otherwise would get. Adults, who have their own money, can go into a store and buy themselves everything they want and need, and will likely find items more to their taste than if I would buy it for them. Getting something from thrift stores or online plattforms gives you the opportunity to find unique treasures your loved person wouldn't otherwise got. To me, that's the whole point and it's not always the amount of money spent.
I once found some high quality, vintage vine glasses in a "for free" box on the sidewalk. They were the exact same ones my parents have at their house and that weren't produced anymore. I was looking for them for years and there were only a few online far away from me and expensive. I took them with me and gave them as a gift. That was one of the best gifts I ever had for my parents and it didn't cost me anything! They were just sitting there on the street waiting for me to take them! My parents wouldn't ever be able to find these rare glasses anywhere!

This year my family and extended family got together and did secret Santa. We had a budget of $20 so we all bought a gift, wrapped it and put under the tree. I got some beautiful vintage China cups, totally love them!!!

The end piece about things being gross is so true. My in laws are not thrift friendly but have warmed up to it thanks to me! I got loads of my child’s toys and books at thrift stores and at one point my mother in law asked how I wash the toys (obvious) and books. But I said that it’s likely these books only had one owner, hut if I got a book at the library or even let my child read a book at daycare it would have been “used” by SO many people… she was very impressed with that argument and all she said was “I never thought about that!”

You’ll love this, this year I’m upcycling the fabric of my gym shorts from high school 😂to make homemade Christmas ornaments 🎄for my friends who attended the same school. We just celebrated the 10th anniversary of our graduation! I thought it was a cheeky twist on a zero-waste Christmas. The ornaments are red hearts stuffed with various soft plastics that otherwise would go to the landfill!

First off, love your channel. I’ve been a dedicated thrift shopper for over 40 years and
brought our sons up awake to the advantage of “pre loved”. Our Christmas gifts are
handmade, consumable ( spices, wine, beer etc) and second hand. Peace and Good Health

My family loves things from 2nd hand stores, vintage etc. I make and plan home made gifts all year for my family and friends. I have a vegetable and herb garden, i make my own herb mixes with my dried herbs. At this point my family would be pissed if I didn't give them things I've made all season. I only ask they return my jars when the product is empty, so i can refill. Canning jars have become so expensive. But, everyone knows this gives the jars back. I have over 100+ home made jellys, from sweet to spicey, salsas, and herbs mixes to share with my family. I bought all my baskets to give as gifts this year at a local 2nd hand store and also found 2nd hand christmas fabric to line the baskets with. I have washed and sanitized it all. Im really excited to give this years things, because, I always try and add something new. Merry Christmas enjoy

I literally had a year where I had bought nothing for anyone because I was broke and either regifted things I had found while moving house or picked up from the side of the road that people were throwing out. Literally gifted people so much stuff and spent absolutely nothing and nobody knew. It was almost valued at $3500 USD total for everything including air fryers barely used and a fully functional 4k ultra television! And then a hover board with the charger for my school aged niece

Today and yesterday I've had people ask me "why?" when mentioning that I'm doing a homemade gift for my brother. I've been spending so much time and thought on this gift, so it hurts a bit when people don't think it's a great idea...

This year I tried to upcycle not necessarily things but wrapping itself. I have my own wrapping paper that i use and I kept paper from orders of organic cosmetics. Then, I can re wrap fragile gifts and send them to friends. I also gave things I don't need to keep anymore as gifts. I thing they are going to be loved!

I keep gift bags and just reuse them, some are on their 6th Christmas 🎁😊. But I buy very few gifts, mostly just my daughter and little cousin. The older cousins get an envelope with cash. If I do get something for adults I give food gifts, eat, wine, biscuits are always welcome 😁

Just bought from Sellpy and I thought it was a great idea to be able to ship in bulk (e.g. for kids clothes). Disappointing to find out it's owned by H&M. It would be interesting to see a future video on it. I can't seem to find much info myself on how sustainable it is.

When you give gifts in cloth, do you specifically ask if they want to keep the wrapping afterwards? How do you navigate that with people who may not be familiar with cloth wrappings? I've been thinking about the wastage of wrapping paper, but on the other hand don't want to buy new tea towels or other cloths that people don't actually need and likely won't use (my family already owns enough supplies), because producing cloth is _so_ much more resource intensive than producing paper.

My niece always gets second hand gifts from me, she is 5 years old and pretty fine with that. For my parents I will make "Lebkuchen" (I don't know if there is an english word for that), because they really don't need anything and giving them events is a tough one because they are both not in the best physical condition anymore. So I think they will like my homemade sweets. My father always says, that he doesn't like vegan sweets and pies and so on. But every time he tastes from my homemade things, he likes them 😂 and he really does, I know when he is lieing.
