  • The new Honda Jazz looks almost identical to its predecessors, but is it any better to drive? Chris Knapman finds out.

    Good review.
shame the UK doesn't get the Japanese spec like we do in NZ.
My wife drive the 1.5 in RS spec and it's a totally different car, the engine kicks out 97kw which is pretty good for this type of car. These things are selling like crazy since release back in August 14.
Re volume control, what's wrong with using the one on the steering wheel?

Great review, straight to the point on all fronts. Thanks. I think it is a brilliant wee car. Far more plus points than negative.

3:38, of course refinement will go if you revv a CVT, because it has an infinite number of ratios, in other words, the car doesn't doesn't have any gears, just an infinite numbers of RPM's

We have a Jazz as a second car, its great for taking stuff up the tip and super reliable, plus 50 mpg ish. If you want handling go for a Ford the jazz is fun in the wet though!

No, it's not a boy-racer's wet dream, but it does almost everything anybody could ask of it with a minimum of fuss - I've had two, and both were faultless.

Good review Chris, you're one of the best reviewers in my book and glad to see TC has started stating what they actually achieved mpg wise.

The older version of Jazz is better in term of handling. The latest model comes with softly sprung suspension that let down a bit.

What's wrong with a small knob?
Agree that swiping the volume control is annoying, especially when driving, but the biggest problem with a small knob is he doesn't realise what the + and - on the steering wheel control is for.

What is with the county themed background music. Sorry for being petty but I found it most distracting!

I agree with this test. I drove a 2017 model of Jazz with 1,3 lit engine today. It felt like a 1980s car with all that road and wind noise. The cvt gear box was slow to shift. The interior was cheap and shiny black hard plastic. The steering was woolly, not exact like mazda. Terrible driving dynamic. No android auto or any phone mirroring. Shame on you Honda. I expected much more. The only good things were the space available, the honda engine reliability and some safety sense features like auto brake, auto high beam, lane keep assist etc. On the whole not acceptable in 2017 and definitely not on 2020. When you have Mazda, Toyota, Kia and Hyundai at your heals, you can not skip on first impression like noise level, acceleration response, interior quality, driving dynamic, android auto etc. As a big manufacturer you have to see 3-4 years ahead before you push a new model. For me Honda is out.

I like your Clarkson style jabs at Rebekkah :) I really want a R version in the US to compete with the GTI. I need something easier to live with than my 350z. Which would be... almost anything at this point haha.

I think Chris is an excellent reviewer as is Rebecca. I always just think that Telegraph Cars could benefit from reviewing more cars. One every few weeks is poor for having two top notch reviewers. Sites like carkeys and carbuyer (Rebecca's old stomping ground) review far more cars. So many cars they have yet to review. Autotrader also an excellent car review TH-cam site.

We do publish one review per week - every Tuesday. And we'll be throwing some extra videos in over the next couple of months too, so stay tuned!
