    I think a lot of buyers buy cars which will start in the morning on a daily basis, and the jazz is that kind of a car. All the soft touch plastics and great infotainment systems (which anyway get outdated in a few months since a better one comes along) are of no use if you aren't driving your car because it won't start. The jazz is practical, great value for money, doesn't break down often because of the lack of electronic nannies, and lives up to the name of Japanese reliability.

    Great review Aaron. The Jazz is bought by people as it is brilliantly practicable and super reliable, which reasonable running costs. One other bonus is that as the seats are slightly higher than the norm its easy to get in and out of. Something I appreciate at my age!

    Good review mate. I'm considering buying the Jazz SE 2018. Although the BHP is only 102, my priority is having a reliable, practical and cost effective vehicle. The mention of the smoothness of the gearbox is great to know. Changing gears in my previous Nissan Juke was a pain...

      @@waynekerrr9027 I have a Mk1 Mazda MX-5 (import), a Honda Civic Type R (import) Mk2 Mazda MX-5, and a Ford Fiesta track car. Don't get me wrong, the Jazz certainly has its plus points, it's very difficult to beat for its practicality and the gearchange is 👌🏽. I never said it was a crock.

    Handling is actually quite good. Not the best, but a lot of cars in this class, including the VW Polo are less fun to drive, a lot. Same to be said about interior and exterior: how many cars this size are actually better? The reviewer praises the Fiesta but that one has an interior that reminds me of my former mid 00s Sony mega bass mini stereoset: tacky ;-) Engine? It's lineair, like all atmospheric petrols. Turbos give you a punch somewhere in the power band but nothing below, nothing above. This one builds up, the higher you rev the more you get. This is a more natural way of driving. As an alrounder, I would say the Jazz is the true class leader. ;-)

      Handling - I'll agree to agree to disagree on that one.
      Interior - Surely, you must be talking about the Mk7/M7.5 Fiesta? The new Fiesta has a much nicer interior than before, and it's also noticeably better than the Jazz as well, plus the infotainment system is miles ahead in regards to design and performance.
      Engine - It depends on how the turbo has been engineered, and the turbo itself. Some turbos virtually no lag at all, and can give you power from low down in the rev range. The Jazz has to be revved hard and even when you do hit peak power, it feels pretty gutless. A few people have said that the 1.5 litre feels noticeably better in regard to performance, however, I've not tried it. I've also heard rumours that the 1.5 litre is going to be dropped from the range for the next generation Jazz.
      All-round class leader? Again, we'll have to agree to disagree. If we're talking space and practicality, then yes, the Jazz is tough to beat. However, it's not the best car to drive in it's class, the 1.3 litre engine isn't great and the infotainment system is woeful. But, that doesn't really matter to those who buy the Jazz, because they want a dependable, reliable supermini that is practical and spacious, which the Jazz delivers in spades.

      @@CarObsession Next jazz will probably get the 1.0 turbo from the current entry level civic. People want that sort of undersized, overboosted engines with F1 lifespan. One look at the reliability drop of vw when they went from atmosoheric to turbo tells me that greed for torque and horses becomes costly in the long run.
      I am glad Ford changed their Fiesta dash. It is indeed much better looking. But apart from the infotainment system, there is not that much the Jazz does that wrong...

    A great review, but a young man's review of an old man's car! 6:20 - I'm not going to ask why should I buy one, but I have one (I much prettier 2013 Mk2 in silver). The reason we oldies like it is because it's super-reliable and it's the most flexible car in its segment. We don't really care how it handles, but we do care that the back doors open wide, and aged relatives can climb in easily thanks to that and the low floor. I'm a 5'10" 15st lump and have had no problems travelling over distance. I must confess I haven't noticed the ride being hard, and apart from the coarse engine note over 4,000 rpm, it's quite well insulated. The boot is also big enough for four people's clutter. The rear footwells are also usefully lower because the fuel tank is under the front seats, which not only means more legroom, but also that the seats fold away lower, giving a big, useful area to carry stuff in - like washing machines and even a small wardrobe. I've had two Jazzes and never had a single issue, while I've watched relatives' BMWs and Renaults die while my Jazzes have just ploughed on. I was glad you mentioned safety, because one or two Audi mates called mine tin can, whereas in fact the doors close with a nice thunk, the car is solid and well engineered. And while the plastics are hard, they're also well built and durable. You're spot on about the manual. The first 600 pages are about airbags, and after that I gave up on it!

      It's a super car, but the main thing which is brilliant is that for many years the Jazz has been amongst, or actually, the most reliable car in Britain. Fab for us oldies, like the safety, flexibility, and running costs. I agree about the new one though - the infotainment system is crap.

    Nice work. I have an order 2006 Jazz Sport manual transmission. One thing ive learned is they suffer with water leaks so you really need to check that out if buying a used one. Agree with your findings, not the best ride but lots of plusses and the space is great if you need to move things.

      I had water leaking into the boot and spare tyre well in my 2007 jazz. It was coming in from the back of the roof where there are two channels covered by rubber strips. There were some small cracks in the metal which were visible when the boot was open. I used some clear silicone to cover the cracks and the water ingress stopped.

      @antyt2714 Yes it's a known issue. I used seam sealer on mine. Sets hard but it's not as easy to apply.

    Great review Aaron! Thorough, objective and comprehensive so I'll be signing up for more from you. We know the Jazz 'inside out' since my wife bought it 3 years ago (her 2nd one). Reliability and space utilisation are pre-eminent. In short, it does tick the main boxes but a more modern turbo engine with extra poke and the replacement of the 'dinosaur' of an infotainment system would be a great improvement.

    What a surprise given the reporter’s age!.
    Consistently THE most reliable, functional, and popular vehicle for people who actually SPEND their OWN money.
    Highly sought after second hand and high residual value.
    I wonder why.
    Unfortunately it’s replacement while equally desirable is overpriced because it has been made a hybrid for our market.
    Like Mercedes E class you have to have what the U.K. importer dictates.
    Other markets can still have a purely petrol version.
    Whatever happened to freedom of choice?.
    Like freedom of speech that is also restricted by decision makers.

    Great honest review as usual. Not a car to set the pulse rating, but reliable and easy to drive. Perhaps the 1.5 is a bit more lively (used in the Civic, right?). Hopefully Honda have a Type R Civic waiting for you in the wings!

    I am looking to replace my ageing mazda 3. I like the Fabia estate 1.0SE dsg 110bhp I also like the jazz in the SE trim. I,m 60 got a bad back so looking for something easy to get in & out of. Love the Orange of the Jazz. Any advice on which one? or other car. One other thing that is driving me to distraction. I have looked at VW, Ford, Hyundai, Toyota etc. An absolute pit of Grey,Black, White a & silver cars. Horrible horrible horrible. I want Yellow,Greens bright reds and vibrant colours. Why is car colour choice so boring these days?

      Hello Philip, thank you so much for watching. I know I'm younger than you, and I cannot fully put myself in your shoes, but I'd say the Jazz will be easy to get in and out of, so I don't think you should have concerns there, plus the car is very practical. The ride is on the firm side, though, so I'm not sure that would be good for your bad back.
      This may be a bit of a niche option, but what about a Ford Fiesta Active? That is raised up compared to a normal Fiesta, so it should be easier to get in and out of, plus the ride is more comfortable than the Jazz. The inside is a nicer place to be, and the infotainment system is so much better than what Honda can currently offer. The Fiesta isn't quite as practical, but there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to live with it day to day.
      In regard to why car colours are so boring, I would say it's because whites, blacks, greys, silvers, etc are a safer choice and are more universally accepted so to speak. Not everybody wants a bold colour choice, but I understand what you mean and I like colours that a a little bit out the norm.

As it was pointed out by my better half "you don't think the MX5 is a problem though" Women!!! Always looking at things logically.

      @@CarObsession Hi. I will be looking at fords Fiesta a little more in depth. Thanks for the suggestion. I have a 2008 2.0 sport with a BBR Super 200 kit on it. Also it is lowered by 35mm. A great car. Only used occasionally though, This is my Second MX5. My son had 3 of them one was a 2004 1.8 fitted with a turbo. What a car that was.

    Thank you for a great and detailed video 👍. I was looking for a review-video of Honda jazz 2018. The jazz 2018 is not for me - but my parants (70+ years both). And here some comments (though I know this video is not dedicated gray-hair-senior-drivers):
    - hight/comfort for getting in and out of front-seats
    - the view-size of the front- and rear windiws as driver
    But thanks anyway for the video, I shsred it with my mum, eventhough she doesnt understand english 😊 - but the video says alot.

    HI, Altogether a good review. Some folk want this or that etc from a car, i guess depends on what on an individual basis once given relevant information available you either like or perhaps even buy. Of course, if in the market for buying a car or just casually browsing, i know at times it can seem staggering even overwhelming when deciding which to go for. However, as no doubt you are already aware, patience is a virtue and research invaluable. Now! on subject of Honda Jazz. "Bet you never thought i was ever going to get there," did you? In my opinion, and that's all it is, my OPINION. The Jazz, is a cracking no matter which spec it comes in, superb car. Incidentally, just on off chance you all maybe were wondering, "does this guy actually work for Honda." Well i'm just going to be cruel, and keep you guessing. Again but seriously, a fantastic car !

      Change the front seatrails, I raised them 15mm and brought them 20mm backwards (since 2004 I did this with all the Jazz's, there is plenty legroom in the backseats) then the frontseat will fit persons between 5ft & 6ft6😎

    The 1.3 is regarded as an inferior engine the 1.5 is the one to go for. It is not turbo, but is 20% lighter that the Civic Sport, which makes it sporty enough. The iVTEC engine gives a boost at higher revs. The new H-RV Sport has the same engine as Civic Sport; but is heavier and twice the price of Honda Jazz Sport.

      Inferior regarded by whom?!?? Even into the French alpes it works. In 3 years time I did nearly 100k km, 5.6L/100km, CVT gearbox type Elegance. Nothing to complaine? Every Jazz I bought I changed the driverseatrail, 15mm up and 20mm to the back (backseat legroom is more than sufficiënt ) still not a volumeknob, the lanewatchcamera still not in Europe. When the 1.5, Honda bring the 1.5Turbo as a Jazz RS🤓

    Review's okay 🙄 but I think to appreciate the Jazz you have to live with it. Lovely car that drives rides and performs as a small family car should and it's unlikely to let you down in the process.

    All I hear is a Honda hater... When doing a review, consider the price because you can't expect the car to be the best. You can't expect Honda Jazz to be as good as a Ferrari.

The Jazz is a fantastically spacious, practical and reliable car, but it's not as good to drive as rivals, and the infotainment is woeful. I'm not a Honda Hater, but you are of course entitled to your opinion. Thanks again for watching 👍🏽.
      ***EDIT***: Hi again Phil, apologies if my responses seemed a little defensive originally. I'm also sorry I originally called you Paul in my original response (I read your name quickly, but that has been amended now), but I was just a little bit angered by your comment as I'm not a Honda hater at all. The only thing I hate about Honda is the ropey infotainment system the brand insists in putting in its cars.
      I also found the Ferrari comment a little frustrating as at no point would I expect a Honda Jazz to be as a good a Ferrari, that's just barmy, frankly. By the way, my comment about considering a Honda as my next car is genuine, I'm not saying that to prove a point, I am genuinely looking to buy a Honda as a my next car. Have a nice evening Phil

      Ok calm down. 😂 obviously that "does'nt even make sense" , he was just telling you that your expectations were are little bit high for the price class you were reviewing.
      Also is it just me, because im thinking the Honda cars are not boring at all. Every time i see a Skôda Fabia VW Polo or Ford Fiesta im almost pissed off by how boring the car is. I think the Japanese cars look exiting, so that i right away wanna jump in and drive it. 🤔

      @@CarObsession My answer to Honda UK is that the temporary repair kit, with compressor, is useless if I was stranded in the North-West of Scotland with a ripped, and therefore unrepairable tyre. So having the Jazz has cost me over £300.00 for a temporary spare wheel and suitable boot tray. I wonder just how much difference to the Co2 emissions it would be by providing this spare ex factory. Surely technology could counteract the extra emissions!!

    Aaron all car manufacturers have or have produced crap over the years !! Examples Honda jazz Subaru Forrester Aldi 3 Morris Marina Holden VX commodore Ford BA falcon people have brought this rubbish & it's costed them money !!!! That's their problem!!

    They should call it the Honda Coffin Dodger, based on how fed up of life you’d have to be to buy one. With those multiple load configurations they should show it in hearse mode. Better luck with the Type R next time!

      @@CarObsession well I have one I have also a Mercedes’ I bought the Jazz to go to France it just does not hug the road at all it has little power to get up a hill.. 1.3. Litre engine should do better.. it wobbles if you go over any bumps or iunsmooth

      @@georgianwindow That doesn't necessarily mean it's poor value for money, though? For me, value for money is how much equipment/practicality you get for the price and I'd say the Jazz does well there.
      Also, don't forget that the 1.3 engine (from memory) isn't turbocharged.
