- "Let It Whip" is a popular song by the American funk and R&B band Dazz Band. It was released in 1982 and became one of their most successful and recognizable hits. The Dazz Band, formed in Cleveland, Ohio, is known for their energetic and danceable music style.
"Let It Whip" won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 1983. The song features a catchy melody, infectious rhythm, and upbeat lyrics that make it a classic dancefloor anthem. It continues to be celebrated and played at parties and events to this day.
If you haven't listened to it yet, it's worth giving it a try for a groovy and enjoyable music experience!
My high school buddies could not figure out why I liked songs like this even though I was the biggest hard rock fan that they knew. I told them, "good music is good music". As a youngster, my mom would put on the Sly and the Family Stone 8-track. I assume that was where I began to appreciate "funk". Thanks for the reaction.
I had the same experience back in the 70s,I was a white boy...listening to Curtis Mayfield..Kool and the Gang,Tower of Power etcetera
You cannot sit still when this song comes on!
When this song came on in the club, we would RUN to the dance floor!
It's been so long since I heard this! I remember dancing to this in my early 20s in San Francisco nightclubs. Good times! The dance floor was packed when this played.
Definitely a great dance song
Danced to this skating in OK in the early 80's...😅
Me too!!!! Bay Area native here!!
👍🏿
damn ur old....LOL. JK
Loved this song since I was a kid! 49 yrs old & still a banger!
❤❤❤❤❤❤ They were the definition of “ tight”!
There’s great video from Soul Train of the dancers going down the line to this. And it’s a riot! The outfits and do’s!
The outfits were nice
@@thisisitreactions I mean on the Soul Train dancers. Their outfits are actually quite creative.
The dance floor was packed in clubs when this song was played in Newport Beach, CA also. Still love it today.
anaheim too
Hi Guys , love your reactions to these 80’s classics which I used to play in 82 as a DJ in Channel Islands in jersey , and I’m from Glasgow in Scotland. 🏴 I loved soul funk and disco from that era. The Dazz Band, Gapp Band, AWB who were Scottish but everyone thought were African American . Take it it easy guys 👌
Skip Martin's vocals are 🔥🔥🔥 He sang lead on quite a few of their hits
Yeah, its a funk band. It was a trend of the times. You had the Dazz band, the Gap band, and the Zapp band, just off the top of my head. I'm sure there were more similar sounding groups as well. Simple songs with a great beat to dance to, good times.
Damn! I was ready for bed before I saw this reaction, it’s midnight and now y’all have me up dancing in my living room 😂
😂😆😂
The Cleveland skating classic. That and Dazz band
GREAT REACTION, GUYS!!! This was a JAMMMMMM, back in the day!! ❤❤❤❤❤
There was also a funk band called Brick. I used to always get them mixed up with the Dazz band because Brick has a song called Dazz. Abd another funky groove called Dusic. Would love to see you guys react to those.
Great minds think alike; I just suggested DAZZ by Brick! ❤
This song hit number 5 on The Billboard Hot 100 back in 1982....Where you 24 from. It did go number one on Billboard R&B charts.
Yep. 5. I grew up in a tiny town with one station that only played Top 40. I knew this song REALLY well, so I knew it had to be higher. 🤣
I was 12 when this song came out and it’s been my jam since day one! When this song comes on, I’m dancing. I don’t give a crap what’s going on and who’s around! I remember one day a few years ago was shopping at the grocery store and this song came on and I stopped and I was dancing in the aisle
Definitely a groovy and amazing songs to dance whenever I listen to this song
❤ this song we use to skate dance to this. Thank you for the great memories.
You might try their 1983 R&B hit "Joystick". As for other post disco give Shalamar's "Make that Move" performance at the 1981 Rythm and Blues award a look. Great performance.
Also Consider doing Jody Watley's (who was a member of Shalamar) song and video "Still a Thrill" a listen. That's an amazing video performance. And many people thought it
was sang or written by Prince. But Prince had nothing to do with it.
If this ain't one of the funkiest grooves ever put to tape, then I don't know the definition of funk.
This song was included on a CD player clean-up disc. Had my entire family dancing in the living room. Or at least moves that could be interpreted as dancing. 😊
Why can't we go back to music like this
I couldn't believe it didn't go higher in the charts! I love this song and always have!!
I was in 9th grade when this awesome song came out ..
Reminds me of so many great bands from the 80’s like The Gap Band, Midnight Starr, Heatwave, and more. 🙂
LOVE this song!! Kind of funny but my favorite part is the claves. 😆🤷♂️
And I agree it should have been wayyyy higher on the billboard charts!
When this song came on in a club , by the time you realized what happened you're already on the floor dancing !! 🤩🤘
Everytime I hear this song I want to be a majorette in a band doing a 🔥 routine 😁
Totally agree!!! There are some songs like this that are timeless! 👍😊
They could have "Whip it" for 10 more minutes 😊
I love this song, and it seemed to fade away pretty fast back in the day. 😞
I've heard this song my whole life and I never knew who made it. Turns out they're from right here in Ohio. Great song and the video's fun too.
Besides Fenom we didn't know either lol
This was a big song. Great to dance to.
DAMN THAT IS THE JAM!!
I love the disco era, but when straight funk came back it was even better
Ok guys. There’s something else you should react to with the word “Dazz” in it. The song “Dazz” by Brick. It was always the backwards skating song at the roller rink in the 70’s. ❤
I remember the first time I heard this late night here in Detroit,
on the Electrifying Mojo and the Midnight Funk Association,
yeah I know I'm white 🤔😁😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Atomic Dog.......... nothing but the dog in me 🐶🐶🐶
I remember this song and many others like it (You Dropped a Bomb on Me, etc.) from our local roller skating rink when I was a kid in the early 80s. Love it.
Yes! I’m 14 again; musically we had it SO good!!!! Next song you should react to: “DAZZ” by Brick. Bring out some FUNK! ❤
songs like this are timeless! It was a trend of the times. I'll Keep On Loving You .🥰🥰🥰😃👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Gentlemen, it turns out that Let It Whip peaked at #5 on the Hot 100 in 1982!! This was one of those songs that would fill the dance floor within seconds!!
Cleveland, Ohio
The Land whip it baby💃💃☘️☘️
Please this throws me way back double Dutch bus jam ❤😊
We used to get down hard to this at the club. The dance floor was always packed to this one. Way too much fun.
Oh dang! This was on every one of my dad’s cookout playlists/mixed tapes/cds. ❤ Kool and the Gang’s “Hollywood Swinging”. If you haven’t reacted to it, treat yourselves ❤
Dazz Band + US Army 1989 + NCO Clubs in Germany = best times around!! Thanks for the share guys!!
Really loved this one I had never seen the band great reaction ❤
Sounds like Prince to my ears, with a touch of Rick James. Also easy to get Dazz mixed up with Zapp -- as in "More Bounce To The Ounce" Zapp. But that was from 1980. Check out Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force "Planet Rock" from 1982. Also check out "Buffalo Gals" by Malcolm McLaren from 1983. That's where Pharrell Williams got the idea for the Smokey the Bear hat.
I didn’t miss American Bandstand and I loved dance music. Great song! 💃🏼🕺🏿
That's on my playlist! I forgot how good it is!
It's so good!
Best disco sound and one of my fav band in early 80's....
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I remember this song very well
This was we called a monster jam back in the early 80’s, hit in the radio station ( especially R&B!) , hot in the cars , and hot in the clubs and parties! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love Skip Martin. He has a great voice and stage presence.
It wasnt a night out at the club if they didnt play this song.
That bass in the second bridge sends me
Oh wow this brings back memories, we all used to hit the dance floor when it came on lol
I haven't heard this song in so long. I forgot how much I love it. I've been having a blast this evening watching and listening to your 80s vids. I graduated HS in '87 and this has me tripping down memory lane. Have you heard Rock Lobster from The B-52s? Technically it's a 70s song ('78) but it got played at every dance I went to in HS. It's pretty great. Also, Shining Star by The Manhattans has been one of my favorite 80s song since I first heard it. ✌🏽💗
LOVE this one, makes me want to get my Dazz CD out lol
why don't bands dance anymore, who doesn't like a man who can dance :D
the white dude on the keyboards is steve cox, the band actually found him working in a music store selling instruments
Still loving this song
Love that song! ❤️ This is my generation!
I love the Dazz Band very underrated soul band!

They have TONS of jams - I Might As Well Forget About Loving You, Laughing At You, Invitation To Love, I'll Keep On Loving You ... the rabbit hole is amazing!!
I freaking love this song!!! Just re-discovered it myself, digging around TH-cam. Try "Funky Good Time", James Brown.
Cool! I didn't know I knew this. But now I do!
We are all learning together
I can see the two from my generation because of the grey hair. Best generation of all lol.

I'm saddened knowing we will never have this group funk again.
A mi esta canción no me gusta...me encanta. La escuché hace más de 40 años y quedó grabada a fuego. Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱
I am a white man, 66 years old. This is one of greatest songs of all time! The best tune to dance with your hot girlfriend, you know, the one with the hourglass figure.
Paradise City by Guns'n'Roses. Didn't see it in your video list. If you haven't done it, check it out.
Great song! One of my favorites! I have a whole story about this song, but who would be interested?
Tha cut!

Definitely lip synching to studio recording. Nuttin' wrong with that. It was a common practice for tv music shows.
Love this Channel.
I only know this song from that movie with a nerdy guy called the new guy. I think he was talking to Eddie I forget his last name, but he was talking to him about being a prisoner in the movie and how you got to work it! Damn I can't believe I can't remember Eddie's last night. Anyway the new guy is the movie that I heard this on. Peace!
