This is a great cut by The Gap Band. But their cut "Outstanding" is the classic that's played at every black cookout across America. Give that a listen. The great Charlie Wilson is still alive, recording, and still has that incredible voice.
There are a lot of musicians credited for GAP Band III, which is actually their 5th album. Raymond Calhoun, Melvin Webb and Ronnie Kaufman are credited for drums. Another well known name are Cavin Yarbrough on synth. Known for Yarbrough & Peoples
Check out their songs "Early In The Morning" and "Party Train". In the Early In The Morning video you will see the entire band. The drummer has his drumsticks on fire during the video.
Great reaction guys. You’re spot on a good is just that, a good time. This song and their other song Early in the Morning as well as Rose Royce’s Carwash were my morning starters when I needed that pick me up.
they had some great party songs! jeffrey daniels from Shalamar actually did the "moonwalk" first but it was'nt called that until Michael Jackson did it.
💗💙It’s impossible not to groove to this song. I love that they’re not taking themselves too seriously in those outfits and are just vibing. fun fact: not sure if you’ve caught the pharrell/dave grohl interview clip, but that little drum pattern 2:07-2:11 is where Dave Grohl got the idea for the intro drums to “smells like teen spirit”
So many 90's west coast tracks sampled this song... Love it! About to turn 50 this year.. still include at least 3 songs by Tha mighty gap band if im doin a DJ set at a party lol
The Gap Band was pure fire!!! They were also Snoop Dogg's uncles. The lead singer, Charlie Wilson, is still with us and still performing. RIP to brothers Ronnie and Robert Wilson.
My wife and I were dating when this dance floor filler came out and we always joined in.Still married and even though it's harder to move around now just let us hear this and we are taken back to our young days.Great song!
There is NO way you can listen to this and NOT bust a move...This song brings back many memories of the late 70s and early 80's when we would all go out dancing on the weekends! I love your reactions. This music brings so much joy that it should be played all over the world to bring peace! PS, uncle moon walked before MJ...
This back in the day when everyone went to the Disco clubs...... Hip-huggers and bell bottom pants were in along with elevator shoes! A few cocktails and you could burn the dance floor up😂❤😂❤
I would be more inclined to crediting Jeffrey Daniels with what he called The Backslide, performing it during Soul Train as far back as the mid to late 1970s and then later as a member of the band Shalamar
The moonwalk wasn’t exclusive to Michael Jackson…it was a dance that many kids were doing. It’s been around since the 40s. MJ just made it popular in the mainstream.
You said a mouthful and they're always stealing old school beats especially R&B FUNK in the 70s and early 80s either they can't play their own instruments or old school is the best
Can’t go wrong with the Gap Band and Uncle Charlie.

oh and drums are a combo of electronic drum tracks and live tracks by Ronnie Wilson (keys)
OH and the moonwalk: think of it as a proto moonwalk lol. the moonwalks been around since the 1940s but it didn’t pick up steam until MJ in 1983

They were also actual blood cousins to the O’Jay’s. Another great band!

Ok that's a revelation, Michael didn't moonwalk till 82 or 83? It didn't exist yet.
He did moonwalk before Michael Jackson!
drum intro was copied by Nirvana drummer in Smells Like Teen Spirit
Yep! Dave told Tony Thompson (the GAP Band drummer) that he's been ripping him off his whole life. Tony goes "I know." LOL!
Uncle Charlie did the moonwalk in 🤠 👢🥾 s
Give me that funky music
I think he moonwalks in this video
What, did he do a short moonwalk? This was before Michael did this move.
Dave Grohl has publicly said he copied his drum style from the Gap Band
The fill from Smells Like Teen Spirit
The moonwalk wasn’t exclusive to Michael Jackson…it was a dance that many kids were doing. It’s been around since the 40s. MJ just made it popular in the mainstream.
This was music before that RAP CRAP ! Burn Rubber on me Charlene that's my name oh Ya ! I remember ,
Burn rubber on me Charlie. I also thought he said Charlene
You said a mouthful and they're always stealing old school beats especially R&B FUNK in the 70s and early 80s either they can't play their own instruments or old school is the best
Wrong. Rap (nee Hip Hop) was out during that time. But carry on with your music prejudices.
Your wife looks so nice here.
Po Esta Canción Dejé El Rock y Me Cambié a la Música "Disco"
