I've seen a real F14 tomcat retired and sitting on the deck of the USS Midway on exhibit at California. I was like 5 or 7 years old when I first saw this plane on TV. I can only dream of seeing one of these for real back then. A visit on that exhibit is a huge chunk of that dream becoming real. Upon sight of the F14, all I could do was give it a hug. I looked like an idiot now that I am at my 30's doing that. I DIDN'T CARE WHAT OTHERS SAY than miss out on the best experience of my life.
I would think the Zero pilots would show more expression, including the jaw drop upon seeing the amazing "rocket planes". That is still one of my favorite F-14 Tomcat scenes. 5:46-That almost appears as though the Tomcat was going to hit the water
It's not. This was a B movie from the 80s that barely made it to the bargain bin when DVDs became the norm. Seriously, it's a painfully campy movie, with crap science fiction.
That AIM-9 made short work of that Zero. Shame that they retired such a beautiful aircraft, can't help but to think what its replacement the JSF would do to a Zero.
I think if the F14 wanted to, all they needed to do was fly past the zero at any supersonic speed and the Zero’s would have a catastrophic control problem.
@WoWGamer20XX I loved the F-14 as well, but in terms of being a fighter, it's days were coming to a close. Need to remember that a carrier based plane's airframe would take a much heavier beating that traditional runway. Also, technology has advanced it would not make sense to even try and update them since the advancements have not only come in electronics, but also materials and manufacturing processes.
@phantom6 wouldn't ever happen with the F-22's seeing how those are USAF birds. Maybe a remake with the F/A-18F's that the VFA-103 Jolly Rogers are using today to update the scene from the Tomcats of the VF-84 Jolly Rogers.

Ok how famous is this scene it keeps appearing in recommended

@@Crazt That's just rude man.
The tomcats flip their hunting mode like a cat on the strike for kill

Funny how the tomcats were stalling themselves while the Zero's were redlining xD
Great movie
kinda makes you wonder how much more brutal the curbstomping would be in a remake of this movie using f-22's and even more modern tech on the carrier.
Love this movie
@snoop8492 I AGREE, THE F-14 TOMCAT IS THE BEST OF THE BEST, PERIOD.

Lol i thought of the same
"Splash the Zeros."
@JPH1786 well, the effect of that short vulcan burst was certainly underplayed! ~40 20mm HE rounds should've cut it to pieces as well.
My favorite part of this movie.
Mmmmmmm...... contact! lol

@JPH1786 Maybe, but with the AIM-54 Phoenix Missile, It's brutallity
Sidewinder vs a Zero is a little overkill, don't ya think?
@riflebore Seen tomcats landing in Pearl when I was at Hickam AFB when I was a kid and a pair of them landing in Maxwell AFB as a teenager.
YOU KNOW its a Over killl that is likes Pearl Harbor vs Hiroshima atomic bomb

pardon my ignorance, what is the name of this movie?
Domo Arigato!
The Final Countdown
The Final countdown
It's not a movie...it's recently declassified footage.
This movie full name is?
“The Final Countdown”
of course the f14 can win the zero
てかひでえw
뭐 그리도 멀리 설정했을까? 20년 차이의 기술력이 아니더라도 불과 저 시기에서 수년후의 실정이라면,
