ReignBot you just made me realize why I'm so interested in true crime. Somewhere around 5:30 when you begin talking about the increasing coverage of high profile murders/serial killers in the early 90s...I was a kid when all that was happening. There was no internet/cell phones/cable for most people. It seemed as though the news was always on and because of it I found out what a rape and murder were at a VERY young age.
P.S. I grew up in Milwaukee.

I don’t condone dropping your unwanted elderly relatives at a home but if I heard a family member or even friend say that: I would put them away, that shit’s not okay, and if someone showed me their tattoo of a serial killer’s name/symbol/etc and fantasize to me about how they love them and want them in bed. That’s one phone call away to the nearest facility, I have an interest with true crime, but I don’t wanna have rough sex with Charles Manson. There’s a big difference with having an interest and being all out crazy on the true crime side of things.

I don't like what they both did they're obviously shiit people but devon was musically talented and had a life ahead of him that he could've done a lot with but Alec and him met and thats when it went downhill. But I also don't like Devon because he would make school shooting threats ( he would stand close to you and tell u not to come to school then laugh, etc. ), bully other kids to the point where the guy he bullied was going to the school EVERY WEEK to report bullying, not mention I heard that he choked a student in 8th grade and touched underage girls asses at concerts. I also feel really bad for Kendrick Castillo he died when he got shot. he jumped and saved other people along with 2 students when nobody else would, man had to do what he had to do. See how I'm able to empathize and see his point of view but at the same time hold him accountable and NOT romanticize or like him...? i wish those columbiners could do that smh

fun fact: the reason marilyn manson named himself that was because of the medias habit of making murderers as famouse as actors and singers. of course you had marilyn monroe who was a famous actress (good kind of fame) then you had charles manson serial killer (bad fame). so the point of his name was the whole ying yang type thing its made up of 2 famous people but for drastically different reasons. this also goes along with his persona of being a hero to some and villain to others.

When people sympathise with murderers because they were bullied or abused as a child. Yet this does not excuse murder.
I remember after the Florida shooting, the kids were standing up for themselves and when the police stated that the shooter was bullied the kids went to Twitter and stated 'so was I, but he shot at me'. Nothing excuses murder, rape, or any type of crime. Not mental health. Not bullying. Not abuse.

I actually watched My Friend Dahmer for the first time last night. The way that Ross Lynch portrayed Jeffrey actually made me really uncomfortable, as well as second hand embarrassment at those scenes where he made the weird noises. But to hear someone who know and/or was close to Jeffrey say that Lynch actually did a really haunting job at playing the titular serial killer himself, was what really made me impressed. To be able to act to the point where someone who knew the character you play as say that you were just like them, is insane. Ross is an amazing actor, and I hope he gets more roles like this in the future. You *know* he'll put his all into it.

Ok, when I was a teenager I've met a girl who was really obsessed over Columbine shooters. She was bullied a lot on school and at home (yeah, her mind probably was not a good place to be at that time). She was totally into this till the day our country woke up with the news of our own first school mass shooting. She was terrified... She used to be someone who don't care about those kind of victims and suddenly they're "nearby" and she got very sad and upset. She was really frightened. So she made a bold move (considering her emotional patterns) and went to some psychological evaluation. Today I think that when a mass murder happened "near" her, probably she got the real instance of the horror that was perpetrated in Columbine. Well, one year later I remember she was starting to show some confidence to other people and was more focused on studying. I've lost contact with her since we graduated, but I just checked her Facebook page and apparently she's doing well now, she seems smiley and do have some friends. I think she was able to "erase" these things from her head. Good for her.
Maybe in her case she wasn't bad person, but instead a very confused and alone girl who wanted to get some revenge because her life wasn't the way she thought it should be?
I honestly don't know but she seems great now and I feel relieved for her.

As a person who is interested in true crime, I would like to say, we are not all like this. I enjoy learning and researching the psychology of the killers, the forensics on how they caught them and the biography of the victims and killers.
However, I do not like school shootings, and most people who research true crime, aren’t interested in school shooters. Mainly because it is boring. No forensics. No hunt for the killer. Nothing that makes them stand out. The backstory is always similar.
I try to keep it respectful when researching cases. It’s something my dad, my mum’s best friend and I have a DEEP fascination for. We have debates about unsolved cases, go to talks and conferences from criminologists and psychologists on killers and why they kill, we watch documentary’s together, and I have even set my goal in life to become a homicide detective, in order to put my interests and skills I have learnt to good use. Sometimes my grandma (who also watched documentaries on things like that) joins in. She can’t always because of her bad legs and back. She can’t stand for long. Bless her.
In fact, my MAW is going to be to ‘solve a murder with the police’.
These people are nothing more then horny 15 year olds who lust after boring people who killed a lot of innocent victims.
I would like to say rest in peace to all of those who have passed from someone evil, whether they be serial killer, murderer, mass murderer or any other act of violence.

Damn, that's one of many possible examples that may be combined with the other explanations and motives, and it has a sort of Lawful Evil genius to it, like, holy fuck, I *hadn't* heard or thought of that until seeing this; eerily illuminating to find out that being one of the pieces of the puzzle. 😨

Making a spectacle or getting moral satisfaction out of the punishment is exactly the fuel that feeds the fires in these killers’ bellies. It’s an almost religious devotion to raining fire and brimstone on your enemies, that keeps the cycle going. Imagine what would become of these perverts who idolize these kinds of people, if anyone who committed these types of violent acts simply got locked away and basically erased from society. They’re no longer a “bad boy”, no longer a “tortured soul”, anyone who does these things just gets erased from public consciousness into total blackness (metaphorically, materially I just mean simply locked away with no fanfare and no media exposure). Their names never mentioned, their faces forgotten, their fantasy of “SHOWING THE WORLD THE MONSTER IT CREATED MWAHAHA” totally subverted by deleting their presence. Gone, no identity, just collecting dust, being truly a nothing-person.

Ember D&T I'm alright talking about it, don't worry. There really isn't much to tell though. It was the school shooting on March 11th 2009 in Germany, Winnenden. I was in 5th grade in the classroom and suddenly we heard loud noises from above and a few minutes later how people were falling down from above. The class next to us ran outside, telling us to run since someone is shooting up there. Half my class (including me) ran out the window to the public swimming pool since it was the only building near us where we could get help and the others went there too. The other students stayed in the classroom but ended up meeting us hours later at the pool as well. When we arrived at the pool we saw lots of older students (from the classrooms above) wounded and covered in blood. I got taken to a friends house where my mom picked me up and hours later I got told what exactly had happened. The realization hit days later and I am so glad nothing happened to me or my mom since she took the same route as the shooter and me and my class ran out the building the same time the shooter did. I don't want to sound dramatic and I don't want pity but it was terrible and I wish this upon nobody. It fucks up your life. I am constantly scared when in a school, I always sit close to the window and never with my back to the door due to the fact the students got shot from behind. The guy wanted to shoot up the whole school, he even had a backpack full of ammo in the restroom next to our classroom. Seeing girls getting wet over people like that makes me so mad.

I’ve always found that people who feel broken gravitate toward people they see as needing “fixing,” myself at a younger age included. Young girls or women who feel the world doesn’t get them and that they’ll never fit in (which is sadly a lot) want to find that one person who sees them for who they really are. This sometimes manifests as looking for people who they see as being “broken” too, and they want to fix them and live happily ever after. It also manifests and finding someone who also doesn’t fit in and being each other’s whole world. That’s what I see what I hear about the TCC. It’s sad to me because I know where they’re coming from, doesn’t excuse the behavior but I still get it a little bit. Fixing the broken and taming the wild don’t mend what’s going on inside, it just causes more pain. Hopefully the girls that get wrapped up in all this realize that one day.

    People.
Mental health. Is. Not. An. Excuse.
Bullying is also not an excuse.
There is no excuse for murder or rape. Those kids who took the life of other kids, they're murderers. Cold. Hearted. Murderers.
I mean, look at me. My mental health is really frigging bad and I was bullied and still being bullied. And what exactly am I doing? Taking a gun and shooting innocent kids at my school? no. Because their lives are not in my hands, and their fate is not mine to decide. Nothing is an excuse for murder. NOTHING. You can learn from the mistakes of murderers on how NOT to become like them, NOT ADMIRE THEM. And you know why? Because they are cold hearted murderers. They would probably murder you if you were at their school at the time of the shooting. They don't care who you are, they want to kill, and find themselves excuses to do so, but those excuses are nothing more than lies. It's like killing your cat or dog because "the Earth is over populated."
    And I will repeat.
Mental health or social status is not an excuse for a crime.
Thank you for sticking through to the end.

Yeah ofc those are, definitely crimes, but you can’t blame young people for being attracted to older people (you know, hormones, and just being young and stupid in general). If the older person acts on it and uses the young person’s attraction to their advantage, now that’s the problem. I mean, if anyone uses someone’s attraction to their advantage to manipulate them, it’s a problem, regardless of age. But you can’t blame the person for being attracted, they are the victims. And besides, do they students know better, if they do get into a relationship with the teacher? You just can’t blame the students here, blame the teacher, they’re supposed to teach and protect, not take advantage.

As a very young child I would watch all the best crime shows from NCIS to Rizzoli & Isles.
I would also watch the Investigation Discovery channel and the news, just to hear about all the latest and oldest crimes!
I was also fascinated by surgical mishaps and disasters.
This is what is currently leading me on my pursuit to become a Medical Examiner/Coronor.
I've always wanted to examine corpses of those who've died in unknown ways that way I can find out what killed them, help solve crimes, and give the victim's family closure.
I keep quiet about my career goals because whenever I tell people, they cringe and say "Oh...that's weird."
However, I do not support the "crazy" side of the True Crime Community, they honestly disgust me how they sexualize serial killers and rapists.
I'm part of the TCC but only for the mysteries and actual psychological side of criminals.
I only want to know why and how they did it.

I think its them being unable to process the crimes. They mentally are unable to process it to the point that they try to find the logic of why, and are unable to find it so they turn to romanticizing them. It's easier to look at them as a troubled man with a horrible past then a cold blooded murderer. From there that romantization turns to I could have stopped them I could have changed and fixed them. I could have helped them realize what they did wrong. When it's not truely been found how to help or "cure" these disorders.

The idea that someone would want to bang legit, real-world, unregulated crazy does not compute.

Jerrod Schembs Are you referring to the Columbine killers? If so it's never been proven that they were sexually involved with one another. Out of all the myths, rumors and speculation surrounding them that's something that has zero evidence to support it. I've been researching Columbine pretty much since the week it happened and the only times I've come across that is in some awful fan fictions written by people on Tumblr.
