Why are we trusting the "don't trust Yoko's story" note in the first place? The first thing that came up in my mind is that the elderly couple wanted to suppress Yoko's story in order to hide something or get the media's attention off of their trails.
But Yoko’s story gets the entire family off the hook and blames some unknown figure unconnected to the family. It seems weird then that they’d do that and damage the validity of her claim
One possibility that occurred to me is that maybe nobody was being deliberately untruthful: Yoko may have been telling the truth but her mother (and perhaps father) for whatever reason believed she was lying or delusional. The problem here is that there are multiple possible scenarios with no way of knowing the true motivations of the people involved.
@@bubblegum6151 I don't think anyone in the family was actually suspected of being directly involved with Mayumi's disappearance, except maybe for Yoko and even then mainly _because_ of the cryptic, ominous note. At that point they wouldn't really have needed a reason to get "off the hook" and trying to do so might even have seemed _more_ suspicious. On the other hand, they may not have wanted to have to deal with the potential scandal of their missing daughter's supposed infidelity along with the possibility that she "evaporated" willingly. While infidelity is not as stigmatized in Japan as one might expect, it's still not really something you want to make that public. Family stability meanwhile is traditionally considered very important, to the point where you are practically expected to sacrifice your own happiness to maintain it, less you are considered selfish. (Especially for women, who are still more or less expected to give up their careers and become housewives when they get married and have children.) Like Reign said, it could have been a clumsy attempt to save face.
My guess is that the parents had something to do with it. Why is everybody trusting them rather than Yoko? We have no proof that they’re anymore trustworthy than Yoko is. They could’ve placed that note to insinuate that she was lying because they were worried she was getting too close to the truth. The icing on the cake is the fact that Yoko eventually went missing as well. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that two of their daughters went missing, and they tried to discredit Yoko’s story when mayumi went missing. If they looked “scared” during the interview, maybe they weren’t scared of Yoko, maybe they were scared of being caught.
Yuki Angeliki definitely, and if they were trying to get Yoko off their trail they could’ve left the note that Yoko found when mayumi went missing as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if the missing sister did cheat that they didn't want her disgracing their family and could have written the letter and tried to blame Yoko for her "disappearance".
The way that the family tried to hide the case and don't even opened an oficial investigation really seems like they were just trying to save face, and that coming from a Japanese family, makes a lot of sense. A young single mother already is scandalous enough. A runaway or suicide daughter? Even worse. The sister seems like the one who contacted the program too, so I really think it's the parents trying to "save the embarrassment". And Yoko just disconnecting from them and vanishing makes a lot of sense too.
sounds to me like japan needs to change. This is nothing to be ashamed for, your daughter went missing and you just do nothing. well this is what you should be ashamed of. If my brother went missing i would climb mountains on my knees if it ment I can find something about him....
I like your theory too. It's either Mayumi ran away and commits suicide, Yoko killed Mayumi due to sibling rivalry, Yoko is cashing in the attention by creating a story or all of this case is just a hoax-documentary.
I remember reading up on this story because a Japanese friend of mine brought it up and I had never heard of it before. To say this case is cold is sort of an understatement. There is no official investigation so no police reports etc. Whatever Yoko or her parents say, there is no way to verify or disproof simply because they never talked about any of it to anyone it seems - Japanese culture is so very different and if Yoko really thought her sister was having an affair, it's likely they never spoke of her again out of shame. That still makes me wonder whatever happened to the child or her husband though.
@Tim Evans Wow, that's a ridiculous generalization and not true at all. I just came back from spending a month in Japan and the country + culture is absolutely fascinating. Every culture has their poblem but to say the entire thing is toxic is just not true at all and I really don't appreciate blanket statements like this on my comment.
My guess is that the Mayumi left a suicide note after being unfaithful and Yoko chose to cover it up as a disappearance rather than endure the social consequences of the public finding out. It would be more respectful for the missing persons website to simply thank the people searching for her than to reveal what had happened.
Suicide in some of Japan's history was seen as an honorable death when you've done the greatest of dishonourable acts. I have no idea what the perception is now but yeah.
Ye that is a common reasoning especially regarding Japan. Just the thing that mental health is frowned upon, getting better with the younger generation but the older generation sees it as shameful “don’t talk about it”. So it could be possible that Mayumi had some mental health issue, her family didn’t talk about it, she didn’t get help, it became to much and she left. Then the general working-habit with the hierarchy at work is still bad and a big reasoning to the high suicide rate so that’s very possible. Then to the one who said it was honorable to commit suicide after committing a sin.. Are you referring to a seppuku? The honorable way to kill yourself as a samurai in the Edo-era?
As someone who's an avid follower of several Japanese celebrities and their TV shows... I'm not surprised the episode is not online. Japan is barely digital, even now. TV stations don't have archives online or put videos of their shows on TH-cam etc. like US shows often do. They are also much much stricter with copyright do often times even if an audience member taped the show and put it online, it would get taken down and the uploaded punished.
@@gabrieladelgado8384 that's what the "etc" meant. Other platforms such as TH-cam. But unfortunately Japanese TV stations don't use digital platforms much at all - as my weekly search online for my favorite shows can attest. I'm still looking for episode of a specific TV shows from the early 2000s and nothing.
@@PongoXBongo kinda. I just came back from Japan two days ago actually and a good indication of how they stopped developing in that regard are the simply ridiculously high prices for CDs and DVDs. My favorite group came onto Spotify LITERALLY last month. They are moving towards digital but very very slowly. Netflix is of course a thing but not as widely established as it is in the west. It's a strange mixture, Japan 😅
Frederica Bernkastel there could be some truth to yokos story. She might not be making it up, A might exist and she probably did find that note. However, how do we know the parents weren’t working with A, or that they didn’t forge the note entirely. The private investigator part could also be true, maybe the parents have her locked away somewhere and they’re trying to get Yoko off their trail.
Pato Parra I think it could be something a lot more common that lies in Japanese culture. If what Yoko said is true, it's possible that due the culture of honour that the parents don't want the family rep. to be ruined. The parents must have some reason to believe why Yoko is lying considering they saw nothing. They must have some evidence to prove why Yoko is lying, but they never mentioned it. Rather, I think they have no evidence and just didn't want their secrets aired.
The fact that this story involves so many obviously easy-to-trace elements that nobody seems to want to corroborate and turn into solid facts leads me to assume the Japanese police are beyond incompetent at their jobs. Edit: Before people point this out - Low crime rates don't indicate a competent police force. Statistically the police rarely prevent crimes from happening and their ability and manpower have little impact on overall crime rates. Crime is usually more of an indication of wider societal or economic problems rather than a functioning police force.
No, you are absolutely right. Japanese police IS SHIT. The low crime rates are fake and manipulated. Not saying Japan is a hell hole but definitely dont trust these low stats.
yeah,, I read a novel called People Who Eat Darkness, and it was about the case of Lucie Blackman, and the impression i got of the police upon reading was not great lmao.
xxCrazyIzzyxx the low crime rates are fake as hell its because basically anyone who commits any crime or is charged with any crime has a near 100% chance of being convicted
@@gnamu1 What are you talking about? This is stuff said by Japanese people themselves, the police force is bad in Japan. They don't even help with stalking cases, which are getting worse and worse.
Well, it's not like she had anything interesting to say. She was 1 when her mother disappeared, she can't remember anything relevant that happened, so she has no clues or information to give. Maybe she didn't want to be interviewed.
Just got off my night shift, and curled up in bed to find this. So even when posting in the morning, I am able to enjoy these videos from the comfort of my cozy blankets before sleep!
Hard to imagine someone would want to abandon their very young child? Hardly! Some even murder them. Maybe the child was A's. Maybe she just had postpartum in addition to guilt? Or any number of reasons. Point being, you can't rule out her disappearing herself because she just had a baby; it may even give the theory more credence.
agreed. it is so strange that people assume the best of mothers based on social expectations and "hormones make you love the kid". sometimes the hormones cause psychosis and mothers will kill their own child! even mothers who love their children can feel very negatively about their newborns due to the stress and intense hormone influx. post-partum psychosis can cause amnesia and you don't even know you had a baby. there are so many factors in post-partum especially with true crime cases in that healing period.
Pari Mizuta to be fair, an overwhelming majority of mothers love their children unconditionally. The crazy moms exist, but they are a tiny amount compared to the number of moms who are pretty normal or above average.
Logan Sanders not talking about love I’m referring about mental illness that causes uncontrollable reactions in mothers with their children. I don’t think it’s fair to say that there are “crazy” mothers and unconditionally loving mothers, I think it’s a horrific tragedy and failure to the women and children that could be prevented with proper intervention. Women are still humans with individual needs even after birth. Not just connected to the baby.
Its sad that so many people get forgotten. Like Rorochan_1999, she committed suicide and after two years when someone made a music video based of her suicide livestream everybody found out about her death. Its just so sad because almost everything about her was deleted and forgotten.
Seems to be just a rebranding thing, although I have noticed that multiple horror TH-camrs tend to all change around the same time, like it comes in waves
Yo Reign, I’ve been trying to hit you and some others up on Twitter with no luck but there’s been these extremely creepy ads for a FaceTiming app that include what appear to be (possibly) underage girls chatting with men and wearing revealing clothing and then the ad ends before she is assumed to show skin. I haven’t seen anything about these ads anywhere on TH-cam or the internet in general, but I’d really like to be able to get awareness out there.
@@siddu4960 Nick Robinson, a youtuber who does things to the next level like flying to Japan to speak to someone who helped make the game Super Monkey Balls.
There's one thing that I'm curious about. How was this story brought up to Super j channel? Why after 17 years was this then brought to the channel? Another thing is that do these shows not keep archives of their stuff? I find it weird that a good number of people saw this and the only thing we have is 2 Screenshots. It is quite bizarre number of events.
Most journalist operations keep archives one way or another. Since it's often useful in Police work, there are systems that have been in place for archiving "News" for more than a century. Japan's not THAT backward, nor that far behind... They probably have an archival copy, but it's a "hard copy" like a DVD in storage somewhere "safe". In the western society, the reckless embrace of cloud computing and archiving everything and it's cousins online has led to rampant security breaches, issues, and criminal enterprises from fraud to technically "crippling" an agency at any level, and demanding a payment (and getting it at least as often as not) for the possibility of "unlocking" their services. Japan is relatively respectable for their methods... Innovation is a fine thing, but being a tad slow and careful has its benefits. ;o)
Michaela Worsley do you mean that it’s a thing almost every country outside of Japan does, not just western? Because Japan seems like it’s the only one who does it to such a degree.
@@Aplesedjr I would probably say that it's mostly America who archives things, specifically entertainment wise. I'm not sure if news channels count as "entertainment" or not though. It wasn't until, like, late into the 70's when America started keeping archives of TV shows, because no one really thought anyone might want see a show years later. There were some companies that were literally burning film rolls, because they didn't have any space for them! Because of that most things that you see during that time period were most likely recorded by individual people (unless someone who worked on the project decided to keep a copy). So most likely, in ANY different country really, if you want to find footage of stuff like this, than you better hope that someone else recorded it!
Michaela Worsley the main reason for the lack of archiving until recently is because film took up a lot of space. Like, a lot. Nowadays, you could probably fit everything ever recorded by humans from the invention of the camera to the 70’s onto a few hard drives no bigger than a couple of feet tall. It’s much easier to store the massive amounts of data now, and many countries are taking advantage of it.
The whole dilemma of this case is the whole “don’t trust Yoko” sign that the parents put up, however something that really bothers me is “what is the basis of their claim?” on what grounds and where exactly in yoko’s testimony did she lie. That really struck me, so then i thought more about it and it hit me that it seemed like the parents didn’t seem to know much about the case as they liked you to believe, as reignbot said they just repeated the same story again and again, which questions the authenticity of the sign that they put up. Why exactly would you put up a sign that says yoko is lying but you have no evidence to prove anything. So after this i have a theory that might just fit in, Mayumi really did have an affair with ‘Man A’ (ill refer to him as MA from now on) and she did cheat on her husband, and prior to her babies birth she did write a note, a suicide note to be exact, but never got around to completing the note or killing herself. And somehow Yoko did find the note, no doubt she would be pissed knowing her sister is a cheater and would be angry and as the story goes she tears the note. Yoko then confronts her sister going on about her being a cheater and almost killing herself. Then Mayumi revealed the truth; she was pregnant and the baby was not her husband’s it is MA’s baby. Yoko most likely cut ties with her sister from that point, and contact’s a private investigator to discover the identity of MA undercover. Months later Mayumi gives birth to her child, and quite early clearly notices that the baby has features of MA and gets scared that her family or Yoko will notice the discrepancy, so she starts planning for her suicide. This can be seen due to the fact that sources claim Mayumi felt “unwell” after the birth. Then she contacts MA to meet her up in a forest for them to chat, however Mayumi then writes her true suicide note detailing the whole incident saying the the baby belongs to MA. Mayumi then tells her parents she is going to meet up with a friend and leaves. Little to all parties, Mayumi ends up hanging herself in the forest and dies ( just an idea based on the countless forest and tree hangings in japan), and MA ends up going to the forest (where he is scene by Yokos private eye) holding 2 drinks 1 for himself and 1 for Mayumi. Upon seeing the body and the suicide note MA is shocked and doing something really risky takes Mayumis courpse and hides it with him so no one knows of this whole thing. Yoko and her parents gets news of Mayumis dissapeance, and this is when Yoko tells her parents about the whole thing about Mayumi being a cheater, her parents completely disagree’s with this saying that if she tells anyone else her families name will be forever tarnished. Her parents intend to cover things up but Yoko isn’t so easily ready to throw things away. So years later prior to that interview she tells her parents that she would finally reveal the truth but her parents once again disapproves of it. In the interview she does give some new key information but does not delve deeper into info that could be taken in a different way and does not reveal the whole cheating part (but clearly alludes to it). Her parents then not knowing full aware of her not revealing anything puts up the sign. “Yoko is lying”. And this is were my theory ends. I hope someone actually reads this, if you find any inconsistencies plz respond i can edit the theory to fit in with these mistakes. And if you feel like this should be seen and could lead us somewhere, plz ‘like’ this so more people can see this. Thank you so much : )

@Bruce Wayne in Japan yes, if you commit crime and can be away for 20 years without get caught then you are free even when later it proof that you did the crime
The Japanese Diet abolished the statute of limitations for murder in 2010. Under the amended law, the statute of limitations is not applied for crimes that are subject to the death penalty, such as murder and robbery that results in death. The term of the statute of limitations is doubled from 15 years to 30 years for crimes that are punished with imprisonment for life, such as rape on the occasion of a robbery or kidnapping for ransom. Other statutes of limitations’ terms for less serious crimes were also extended. The new provisions are applicable to cases in which the statute of limitations had not run out as of their effective date, even if the crime was committed before the 2010 law’s enactment. It's midnight here in Japan, I hope I don't end up missing. I'll ask around to see if anyone knows anything though, I know quite a few older Japanese guys who could help with this.
That doesn’t seem like a *really* good idea. Sounds like a prologue to a video “...the YT commenter that disappeared after asking ‘old Japanese guys’ one too many questions. What happened to NKBdude...?”
This is my favorite kind of content that Reignbot, Nexpo, and others make. Real shit that I would have never heard about, something actually spooky because it's an actual mystery.
@Emily Barclay Oh totally. I see now that my comment looked quite dickish but was intended in good humour. Searching from here (Japan) gives nothing but Japanese results, but in an English-language search like the one ReignBot was using Google's language detection kicks in and 嵐真由美 is probably as much Chinese as Japanese as far as Google is concerned. edit: just looked again and most of the results are actually from Taiwanese sites. I guess because of traditional characters.
my favorite part of these videos is that,, someone knows what happened. someone, somewhere, knows. it’s so chilling and somehow, intensifies the mystery that they had this all planned out.
Checking the records of the private investigator to see if one had actually been paid by Yoko seemed like the easiest thing to do to confirm her version of the story but apparently no one could be bothered to do that
So here's what is weird: first off no police were called when she first vanished? Also, it's weird that the mom of the girls put up a note for everyone to read saying "don't trust Yoko" when Yoko could easily see the note if she watched the broadcast.
Theory: What if yoko is telling the truth and the parents are trying to make it seem as if she’s lying so that the case is left at a dead end and the truth of what happened never gets found out But hey that’s just a theory
Postpartum depression would definitely make a new mother leave her child -she could have thought the kid was better off without her and better off being raised by her parents
What a very strange case. I watched a documentary on "vanishing people" where you actually get to meet some of the people and see their reasoning for vanishing. Many of them had a seemingly loving family or left their children. I wouldn't be surprised if she did leave her child and other family members to pursue a better life in her terms. However, there's so many possibilities to this case because of the lack of evidence. It's astounding to take a look at different cultures and finding similarities with others. Great video!
Almost seems like an experiment done by the Missing Person association to see what the publics response would be to something like this. Try to gauge the peoples reactions and see how helpful people try to be in these situations. The message that said "thank you for your cooperation" is pretty strange to me. It's almost like thank you for taking part in this experiment. The fact that there is so little follow up on all of the people involved and that there is such a big gap between the year she went missing and the news story, is what makes me come to this conclusion. But that is just my theory. We may never know the truth.
I can't help but comment on the bit in the credits. "To be fair" I and a lot of other folks who only speak English pronounce English words wrong all the freaking time. (I still can't stop saying Caramel as "Car-mel")
Hey, I know this will probably get buried but I just want to get this out. There is a channel on TH-cam right now by the name of danker beef, it's what looks like just another shitposting channel but when you go deeper into their videos you'll find subliminal messaging, unsettling themes, or just downright disturbing stuff. It seems like an arg of some sort and nobody is covering it. If someone can get the word out I think this will be pretty interesting.
I think both sisters were in on it, the mutual friend story checks out if that's the case. Yoko was probably lying to not reveal her sisters location and let their parents find out where she went. After the sister settled down in a new place she might have aided Yoko to escape too. This can also explain why the parents would think Yoko is lying because they knew she was hiding something.
All Japanese was spot on, you're all good giiirrrl! Despite living in Japan, haven't heard about this story before so it was really fascinating to listen too. I'm not sure what info I could find, but I'll keep my eyes open if I see anything on TV/in book stores etc. Keep on doing the vids! Always great content!
Something that I dont see a lot of people mention is that adultery is EXTREMELY taboo in Japan. I think the note was the shame the parents felt about confessing mayumi cheating on her husband to the public, not trying to suppress anything more than that
So is having a child out of wedlock. The cheating on her current partner is just added shame on top of that because instead of getting rid of the child like they would want in Japan, she kept it. Her failure to find a new partner and her current relationship going sour is very bad. The child being about 1 year old would have meant the ticking clock on a single mom being able to find a father to legitimize the whole situation was ending. It is considered super shameful amongst japanese men to take in someone else's child like that so the younger the child the easier it is for them to just act like it is theirs.
There is a recording of this case out there, the channel だてレビsideB did a livestream for his メイキングミステリーアワー series where he analyzed the entire news segment. I have no idea where he got the recording though, but it's visible in his video

Thanks for this intriguing story ! I've gotta say, I really appreciate the way you edit your videos and the huge amount of high quality stock video material you integrate while you tell the story. Keep up the great stuff.
What if Yoko is telling the truth and just the mother stuck that paper up because they wanted everyone to think it was her? The reason why the parents or whatever or anyone else say nothing about the note is because they didn't want to seem suspicious and out themselves about the disappearance, and the reason why Yoko said that the Mayumi was going to a friend when the friend said Mayumi said nothing is because the friend is in on the disappearance too? idk I'm just kinda making stuff up at this point-- don't come at me ;-;
Honestly, this just screams cover-up. Little to no information about an invesitgation, several major leaps and contradictions in the story, and a lot of conviences.

Was able to dig up the episode aired on October 13, 2011 (hopefully that helps someone locate some video). Reading other people lament the lack of the archived episode in Japanese blog posts/articles. Seems the only verification that it even happened is live reactions to the ep on 2chan.
Tim Evans They might not even have a recording of it. Channels don’t always maintain an archive of every program aired. Assuming they did, you would need to request to view the footage and get approved, then go to Asahi’s headquarters and watch the tape in the archives. (Due to copyright, you’ll likely never be able to get a digital copy simply emailed to you, assuming a digital copy exists.) If you were fluent in Japanese and lived in Tokyo, it might happen, but otherwise it’s unlikely.
Emma M. This is absolutely right. I’ve actually toured Asahi’s building before when I lived in Tokyo as a student (my professor was an ex-reporter there, not for Super J Channel unfortunately). The problem is that even if I contacted him and all the hoops were jumped through to access their in-house archive as a guest (assuming that’s even a possibility), there would be no way to share the episode with anyone. It would still just be more hearsay from some rando on the internet.
I did it, I bought the hunt a killer box, and you know what.... I'm EXCITTED! Thank you for making vids all these years btw. It's insane to see your channel grow to over a million subs but honestly I can't think of a creator that's hustled in your genre as much as you! Congrats :)
So why don't the investigator just ask the mother??? Sticking a stupid piece of paper is passive aggressive from the parents and doesn't help but confuse / red herring the case!! They left the daughter missing for all these years and then sticks a piece paper...kinda tilting
Culturally, suicide and being a single mother is going to hugely stigmatized in Japan. Probably why the cops thought it was better to ignore the "domestic" stuff with the elderly parents and Mayumi's disappearance. Who was the father of Mayumi's child? I assume the note that Mayuri wrote was about the affair with A, and how it disgraced "the family name". What if A fathered the child? She writes the note intending to off herself and Yoko finds it. Yoko and Mayumi share the secret, but Yoko is pissed and rips up the confession/note. The relationship between the sisters is soured thanks to the threat of "losing face". Mayumi now has nobody to talk to, so she resorts to A. Mayumi tells Yoko that she's going out to meet with a fellow classmate, and instead disappears into the wild areas (the hiking trail). A was seen with two cans of drinks going in, so that could have been an attempt to talk/whatever. Here there are two options: A either witnesses Mayumi kill herself OR he kills her (because it also affects his standing with his family and potentially his career!). Would explain why Mayuri was fine with leaving the kid (a constant reminder of how you fucked up)...and why Yoko was insisting on taking it to the media. The mother taping the note to the background of the shot was probably a way to discredit Yoko's side of the story and the involvement with A. The removal of Mayumi from the missing persons database might have been due to A turning up (out of guilt/shame) or Mayumi's remains being found. As for Yoko disappearing? She could have had bad relationships with the family after the involvement with the media/whatever and she might have found out about her parent's actions during old tensions/whatever. She could have ran off and become an "evaporated person" because the family tensions were so bad. (Plus they had to be supporting Mayumi's kid, which is stressful.)
In Japan having a kid out of wedlock is a lot of paperwork and basically an automatic disowning from your family according to the system. On paper her child would have no father. Nobody would need to kill her to hide it. The fact that her love life was failing and she wasnt able to get married quickly after having a child soulcrushingly diminishes the future of mother and child. Police would have ignored it because it looks like a clear suicide. Same goes for Yoko, she had her reputation ruined because of conspiracies around her sisters disappearance so she ended her life. Japan likes to ignore their problems so the conspiracy about Yoko murdering her sister would become major gossip and basically the truth people believe.
Wow. So confusing and unfortunate for Mayumi. I'd never heard anyone suggest the note might just be the parents trying to save face, but it sort of makes sense. They're doubly suspicious now that their eldest daughter, the only one who may have had clues, is gone. They might also be an innocent old couple who had now lost both daughters, in which case, still terrible.
v 😂 lmao is this what it’s like to get “ok boomer’d” ? , a lot of other stuff could have happened but I’m like the best internet detective alive so i think those are the 2 most likely scenarios , what do you think happened to her ?
PongoXBongo - oh well you can always hope changing ideals in the “new japan” make it easier for people to talk about things like this without being dishonoured
(MAJOR SPECULATION) If Mayumi was paying “A” a lot of money, was in love with him to the point of being in an affair with him, and “A’s” phone number was easily found by Yoko...could he be a host? I think it’s believable enough. If Yoko knew him as well, she could have wanted to protect his identity, as well as not cause a massive scandal centered around her sister. But I tend to be a bit dramatic when thinking on stuff like this, so I don’t particularly believe any of what I just said ^^
@@kal9728 some says the handwriting looks like that of a younger woman. Seeing this note warns about Yoko, it is assumed it belongs to Mayumi, that is if we can believe the mother didn't write it

I used to live in Japan for more than a year, but that was about 10 years ago. I often miss Japan, and I'm thinking to visit again. Yes, Japan is a beautiful and interesting country, but there are so many things wrong with Japan. If you are interested in Japan enough, probably you know what kind of things I'm talking about... Many weird things happened to me in Japan as well. For exampe, a man trying to escape through a window while I was taking shower, another one asking me for almost one hour to go to his place in very early morning while I was waiting for the train, another man giving me viagra saying it was a painkiller and I almost got rapped (by the side effects my mind wasn't clear, I felt like I was going insane and I almost jumped from the 5th floor balcony), another man put something in my drink when we were at the bar and tried to bring me to his house, but thanks god some other guy noticed something was wrong and he called taxi for me... There are some things happened that I don't even want to remember... If anyone is reading this, just please be very careful if you go to Japan, or other country, don't trust people too much, try not to be in some places alone... P.s. Sorry for my poor English.
It seems to me that since the parents put the note on the air, then they possibly know what happened, but kept quiet. They should be reinterviewed since Yoko's disappearance is still fresh, and probably connected to her sister's disappearance.
This was an interesting investigation. It's more than a mystery because of the added aspect of the letter and the whole odd one person testimony of Yoko. Then it goes deeper with Yoko going missing too. Great, subject matter. Good for a future topic type.
It sounds like Yoko wants the police to find her sister- I think she did just up and vanish and creating this kidnapping story allows the police to find her
Holy shit, I hardly comment on TH-cam but I’ve got to say this is one of the most interesting cases I’ve ever seen, it’s almost like a work of fiction. Thanks for bringing this to light.
If that mutual friend of Yoko and Mayumi is really exist, maybe Mayumi believed that she was gonna met that friend, because it was Yoko who lied to her and set that fake meeting ?
if the parents were scared of yoko, why would they put up the note for everyone, including yoko, to see? what did they think would happen if the interview was aired and yoko saw that they put up the letter behind her back? wouldn’t it just piss her off and cause her to lash out on the parents, if she is the true suspect here?
Why are we trusting the "don't trust Yoko's story" note in the first place? The first thing that came up in my mind is that the elderly couple wanted to suppress Yoko's story in order to hide something or get the media's attention off of their trails.
Sureeeee yoko
(Especially for women, who are still more or less expected to give up their careers and become housewives when they get married and have children.)
Like Reign said, it could have been a clumsy attempt to save face.
honestly i think its just because its a more fun story to believe the note, and our subconscious then wants it to be true
I’m absolutely fascinated by the concept of “evaporating people.” Would totally be interested if you covered some stories of that kind
I didn't know about this but wow. Thank you, I think I have a new obsession :D

Its actually very common in Japan, you can easily search it up in the internet due to how common it is.
@@xoderota What the heck is that?
Teatime is coming soon. RGS.FCE. Watch me die

v1ctin You ever look in a mirror?
Thank you Bowser, such a smart guy.
Damn dude. This make a lot of sense.
sounds to me like japan needs to change. This is nothing to be ashamed for, your daughter went missing and you just do nothing. well this is what you should be ashamed of. If my brother went missing i would climb mountains on my knees if it ment I can find something about him....
You hit the nail on the head
Pers Godiva yeah.

@Tim Evans Wow, that's a ridiculous generalization and not true at all. I just came back from spending a month in Japan and the country + culture is absolutely fascinating. I should trust you with your expert investigative skills.
My guess is that the Mayumi left a suicide note after being unfaithful and Yoko chose to cover it up as a disappearance rather than endure the social consequences of the public finding out. It would be more respectful for the missing persons website to simply thank the people searching for her than to reveal what had happened.
Reality cannot be "disrespectful". Facts before face.
PongoXBongo different culture.
The reason you can't do this: It creates a suspect the police need to find.
How about the platform Nico video? Wouldn't they use it way more than yt?
@@gabrieladelgado8384 that's what the "etc" meant. Other platforms such as TH-cam. But unfortunately Japanese TV stations don't use digital platforms much at all - as my weekly search online for my favorite shows can attest. I'm still looking for episode of a specific TV shows from the early 2000s and nothing.
Odd to hear that. I always picture Japan as "futureland". Did they just sort of stop trying after mini-disc?
@@PongoXBongo From the looks of it I think they didn't even *begin* to try at all
@@PongoXBongo kinda. It's a strange mixture, Japan 😅
plot twist: the parents are the killers, they wanted to dismiss yoko's story with the message so no one looks for mayumi.
Pato Parra honestly that’s exactly what I was thinking. How do we know we can trust the parents anymore than yoko? It’s just their word vs hers.
Why would yoko go along with the plan then? If the parents actually did the deed, why would yoko make up a story to tell?
Nobody was finding anything in 20 years. There was no reason to have people look away from Yoko.

@@MoonsongTheFirst yup. I dont know dick about birth as a gay guy, but i can at least confirm that much.
From what I've heard, Japan doesn't really keep archives of anything. It seems like that's more of a western thing to do.

J G but if there's no evidence of murder, then that doesn't matter.

I have no idea where he got the recording though, but it's visible in his video

i hate that ad sm. they need to fire their advertisement team.
That god damn Ad, it makes no sense if you think about it for more the three seconds! So this was yoko’s plan all along, become the subject of internet suspicion, vanish, then start up a new life as writing ads for personal hygiene products.
😂🤣😂😂😂
Scariest part was when I was watching then an ad with loud sounds came up. Lol
ReignBot - an underrated TH-cam channel. You do a great job on your videos. Great editing and subject matter that reels the viewer in.
Great video, thanks again.
Thanks for this intriguing story !
I've gotta say, I really appreciate the way you edit your videos and the huge amount of high quality stock video material you integrate while you tell the story.
Keep up the great stuff.
2:05 can I just point out the absolute irony that “sumida” means “gone” in Portuguese
You can see a clip from the psycho family mockumentary she just covered in this video crazy how long Reign must have been sitting/ working on that vid
What if Yoko is telling the truth and just the mother stuck that paper up because they wanted everyone to think it was her? The reason why the parents or whatever or anyone else say nothing about the note is because they didn't want to seem suspicious and out themselves about the disappearance, and the reason why Yoko said that the Mayumi was going to a friend when the friend said Mayumi said nothing is because the friend is in on the disappearance too?
idk I'm just kinda making stuff up at this point-- don't come at me ;-;
Would it be consider “reverse psychology” what the mom did about the note?
@@InfestedLice yee i think
Finally someone is covering the story. It's been out for a while, but not a lot of people are talking about it outside of Reddit.
I heard about this case a few years ago but not many people have covered it. It’s always interested me
The fact that Yoko allegedly tore up the confession letter in “anger” makes her really suspicious. This is grinding my gears..
Honestly, this just screams cover-up. Little to no information about an invesitgation, several major leaps and contradictions in the story, and a lot of conviences.
Have a great weekend everyone . . . 😎
I was about to go to sleep, but now I'm too scared. Thanks Reign
Hey reignbot, just wanted to say I really enjoy you and your content. Despite the topics you cover being rather eerie I can always immerse myself into the stories you cover and it gets my mind off negative things going on in my life. Bless you !!!
The fact that yoko has gone missing now makes this video feel even wierder

Me: LEZ WATCH A VIDEO
I love your username:3
Was able to dig up the episode aired on October 13, 2011 (hopefully that helps someone locate some video).
Reading other people lament the lack of the archived episode in Japanese blog posts/articles. Seems the only verification that it even happened is live reactions to the ep on 2chan.
she already talked about it being aired on that day!
Tim Evans They might not even have a recording of it. Channels don’t always maintain an archive of every program aired. Assuming they did, you would need to request to view the footage and get approved, then go to Asahi’s headquarters and watch the tape in the archives. (Due to copyright, you’ll likely never be able to get a digital copy simply emailed to you, assuming a digital copy exists.) If you were fluent in Japanese and lived in Tokyo, it might happen, but otherwise it’s unlikely.
fuzzy sharks lmao you’re right, I was moving too quick tryin to get answers and forgot Reign already shared that :p
@@YAIAAC its okay!!haha i do that too a lot!
There's always an interesting story here for you to cover. Thanks ReignBot!
I be watching these bizarre documentaries at night and then complain about not being able to sleep lmaoooo

By 2013 the kid would have been 20 if my math is correct, so it wouldn’t be their problem anymore. Otherwise fairly solid write up!
I like how we're just immediately trusting the parents
Her sister either helped someone kill her or killed her herself , but we will never know until the real story comes from the sister
Sadly, the real story will likely never come out because the Japanese don't like to "dig too deeply" into things that might make them look bad.
v 😂 lmao is this what it’s like to get “ok boomer’d” ? , a lot of other stuff could have happened but I’m like the best internet detective alive so i think those are the 2 most likely scenarios , what do you think happened to her ?
PongoXBongo - oh well you can always hope changing ideals in the “new japan” make it easier for people to talk about things like this without being dishonoured
v lol so cool/edgy dude 😎, so how’s junior high school these days ?
(MAJOR SPECULATION) If Mayumi was paying “A” a lot of money, was in love with him to the point of being in an affair with him, and “A’s” phone number was easily found by Yoko...could he be a host? I think it’s believable enough. If Yoko knew him as well, she could have wanted to protect his identity, as well as not cause a massive scandal centered around her sister.
But I tend to be a bit dramatic when thinking on stuff like this, so I don’t particularly believe any of what I just said ^^
There is this thing I saw online about this note is in Mayumi's handwriting which makes the case even weirder
How do they know it's hers?
@@kal9728 some says the handwriting looks like that of a younger woman. Seeing this note warns about Yoko, it is assumed it belongs to Mayumi, that is if we can believe the mother didn't write it
"People will tell me I mispronounced some Japanese names wrong... EventhoughIAMjapanese- but whatever." ACTUALLY cracked me up. Needed that after this tragic cold-case story. Keep being you, ReignBot.

Bro a new video! Thank you so much. Your channel keeps me going no one on here has content like this.
Wait, Yoko went missing as well? Uh oh, I hope nothing bad happened to them.

Wouldn't Yoko *see* that sign when she watches the interview? If they put it there because they were afraid of her, that would backfire.
Exactly. They arent afraid of her at all. It is a face thing, dont directly say it. Not a fear thing.

It sounds like Yoko wants the police to find her sister- I think she did just up and vanish and creating this kidnapping story allows the police to find her
"...'A', who ever he is."
*Arby's commercial plays*
The plot thickens.
Interviewer: On a scale of 1 to 10, how sad are you?
Yoko: 3:52
Knowing Japan and especially Japanese boomers, I am buying into the whole 'trying to discredit Yoko to save face' story more than anything.
It is for sure this.
Your channel is so binge worthy
if the parents were scared of yoko, why would they put up the note for everyone, including yoko, to see? what did they think would happen if the interview was aired and yoko saw that they put up the letter behind her back? wouldn’t it just piss her off and cause her to lash out on the parents, if she is the true suspect here?
