    Hi DJ, Great video, the mini scene came out looking fantastic. Years ago I think I had that kit in HO scale. For those who are space deprived like me, I suggest picking up a couple T-Trak modules and build a little Inglenook style layout. Cheers, Rich S.

    best thing I heard you say all video " I am not a artist" so in hearing that , just means we all should just try and do it.. really can't go wrong when it comes to age and rust. just a little at a time. till perfect to YOUR eye.

    Nice video and tutorial of the diorama you designed with that bridge! Painting it made all the difference and quite a nice job you did! The base turned out awesome with the ground cover, static grass and the little stretch of water! I'm actually doing dioramas along with Weathering rolling stock of my own and for customers! This weathering thing I believe was my calling bcuz I'm enjoying this and the results are amazing if I must say so! Thanks again Dj for sharing your videos with us along with your time and effort!

    I love that bridge; I have 3 of them so far. They usually fetch a steep price on EBAY, usually around $80 for HO. Its a lower quality kit being that it is ancient. The tooling had changed hands many times, selling under Tyco, Pola and AHM that I have seen, possibly even other brands. Such a cool looking project. Cheers Rob

    Looks amazing DJ! I agree, those Blair decals are great! I put one on a dilapidated fence around an abandoned house, and it brought the realizm out. This reminded me, I have an unused kit I bought that I didn't care for the look on the layout. Think I may use it as a diorama.

    actually I find using those cheap paints are excellent for model railroading. You get muted colors which are more realistic then the expensive paints that give off bright effects that look cartoonish.

    DJ, you've got to use the whole 'modeler's license' when doing scenery. Those 'bumps of plaster' in the river, paint them to look like stones/rocks. Heck even use a few small stones/rocks/pebbles you find outside. Modeling scenery is an art form that is easy to master by remembering two simple rules of nature; nature absolutely abhors straight lines, and hates bright shiny colors.
    Most people paint equipment/buildings the way you have shown. It works, however, if you're aim is an old unused item that is a bucket of rust, start with the rust colors and then add the old original colors sparingly on top. Sounds odd, yet works every time.

    Great video! I have that same bridge. I used it on an old layout copying Carbondale central . I cut the bottom foundation apart because the river was farther down. Also was lucky enough to get the motor kit. Saved bridge for a future layout.

  • @uptownphotography
    @uptownphotography ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a version of this kit in HO. I kit bashed it turning it into a double track bridge and now it's mounted in my medium sized harbor scene area.
    I was going to pour the Environtex once I found what box I stored it in. But, then found out it has a shelf life of about a year or so and I bought mine about 6 or 7 years ago. I stopped looking for it in fear if I use it it will not harden. That was a waste of about $20.
    The bridge came out great however with many improvised components (I didn't use the base) and it butts up against a long wooden pile type trestle I built about 10 years ago. As for the harbor water I may just go the old route and use gloss varnish, not sure yet if I want to spend more money on the Environtex. Nice video as always.

  • @johnhood9567
    @johnhood9567 ปีที่แล้ว

    9 months ago but still. This is pretty much my favourite model RR channel now. This is such a great segment; couple points:
    The plywood on the windows - really great touch.
    I thought "oh-oh he's going too green" with the water, but then I was surprised at how well it worked! It looks to me like a creek with a lot of vegetation, weeds etc. in it and it looks awesome! Totally convincing. You say you're not an artist but you best be careful because you might turn into one!
    I think you could also have used the rough texture to turn it into a fast running stream, easy, but still water was the right choice for this piece.
    I now want a static grass applicator. Hope they aren't too expensive. Budget railway is my mantra.
    I have a technique with fun fur from the dollar store, like dogs toys, winter hats etc, cut it to shape and paint it with acrylics, even cheap ones and it can make really authentic looking long grass. Bit messy but fun. You have to use a couple of greens and yellow/browns to get the best effect, just like varying the colour of your ground cover. Not too much paint or it gets too clumpy. Sometimes comb it with a piece of plastic comb, wipe with paper towel etc.
    The way you mixed up the colours of the ground is right on. One colour is OK but always looks a bit too toy-like to me.
    Really attractive work. Thanks bro!

    "...the creek is not flat..." Naturally! Being abandoned, there is no longer a dredging service required. Add an abandoned barge that had run-aground against the river bank. The plastic is all red so that little had to be done for "rusting" to be apparent. The scene is "organic!" In death, there is life... that's the origin of passion... there's always something happening. It's green. Well, the algae is... now you need a dude playing a guitar... the "Little River Band" ...his caddilac is parked a few blocks away.
    Yes, you've created a great story... but, the story was already there and your passion put it to life. Thank you. John

    Having the plaster in the creek were just rocks. You could decide which way the water flows (into or out of the lake) and paint just a little bit of white on the down river side of the bigger "rocks" to show the turbulence. Before the epoxy, though. Great job!
