I met Muhamed when he worked on his diploma thesis at Mercedes. He sat about 5 meters from my desk. We didn't have any common project to work on and I wasn't his tutor so to me he was only a nice enough young man and we never talked much except for saying hello and goodbye. After some time he was gone and I assumed he had finished his work. About a year later I needed to speak to his former tutor. He was just trying to online register for a metal convention and deciding whether to attend the cast iron or the aluminum alloy speeches. Jokingly I asked about speed or death metal. He looked at me and asked if I listened to such stuff. I told him yes. So the next day he borrowed me his copy of Epitaph and explained that the young student was in a band and had given him the CD as a gift when he left. I didn't expect much, as all those "brother of a friend" bands usually are pretty bad. Boy was I wrong lol.
Muhammed had quit university to go on tour and several years later he picked up again, finished and indeed became an engineer at BMW.
Had I only known who was sitting at arms reach for months...

A friend of mine Armin Rave of the technical Death Metal Band Pavor from Bonn rehersed a few times with Necrophagist after Christian Münzner left the the Band. But they choose Sami instead, because he already knew the Songs.
But you are right Muhammed was the Boss. Armin told me that he and Stefan once discovered a wrong Note in the tabs and told that to Muhammed. And he just said, there is no wrong note...story over.
And he said that every time Muhammed grabed a guitar the first thing he played was the Solo from Ignominous and Pale. Armin said you could wake him up in the middle of the Night and through a guitar at him and he would play that Solo in Studio quality

To the point, that things we would gape at, bored him. He's the type that would have the necrophagist album on his hard drive that everybody wants, and forget about it, because to him, it's not amazing much less important. Everyone seems to complain endlessly about "where's the new Necrophagist album? why haven't there been updates in so many years?" etc. etc.
But the way I see it is different: I'm glad we have the 2 albums we have. They were ahead of their time in many aspects and have achieved legendary status partly because there was nothing else afterwards (as someone else below mentioned, in retrospect "they quit while they were on top"). There's no direct comparison to the material they put out and they directly inspired many amazing modern technical metal bands (think about it... being an inspiration to countless others is a very high rank for any band). Suicmez is smart as hell and I'm glad his non-musical work paid off... being an engineer at a luxury car company pays substantially better than any other musical venture, especially metal. The story is over, for now, and there's no point in speculation or whining about new albums. Onset of Putrefaction & Epitaph are in regular rotation in my library and I enjoy them to the fullest every time!

But sadly, Necrophagist is too underrated. There was no moral for Muhammed to countinue, as well as for Ibanez. Both probably werent making enough money. Necrophagist is/was a totally unique sounding technical death metal band that stood on their own. In fact, it's almost as if they were a complete and separate genre all on their own. I think one of the reasons why they sounded so unique and different is because the solo sections tend to play over top of "riffing" progressions in the harmonic minor (neo classical style) rather than simple chord progressions like most other metal bands. Because of this, you have two simultaneous moving parts of music that somehow sync up like gears in a machine almost like the inside of a clock or watch, or at least that's what I picture in my mind. I've never heard any other band (imo) that sounds as tight and as fluent and precise as Necrophagist. In closing, I also think what adds to their legendary mystique, is that they went out while "on top." They didn't over stay their welcome and become a parody of themselves or the genre.

I can't understand this "oh okay, he had to make money, and you don't earn money with metal" sayers. Metal is no thing you do for money, it's passion, it's a way you choose. As you decide making it just for the money it's no more metal but commerce bulls**t. If you quit making metal because you can earn sooo much money in a job that allows you no time to make music anymore, you give up passion, creativity and attitude for driving a big car, living in an expansive apartment and wearing Armani. F**k that. As a musician, the only good argument for a well payed job is that you could lower your weekly amount of working hours while it still pays your rent and bills but you have more time for music.
What I read between the lines here is "I love money more than music", and it's a pity that greed kills musical genius.

Sure we all want more from Muhammad and Necro, but good on him to pursue his interests on his own time. That's what bosses do. Bosses also don't settle for less than their standard, and how shitty would it have been to see him perform with musicians that weren't quite to his standards, but were the only ones willing to stick around? Could have been very disappointing. Maybe he had this foresight and jumped the sinking ship, taking his mind and interests elsewhere, securing his financial future in the process. The more top tier people (in any field) devoting their time to you, means the more money they demand to be paid. The pursuit of perfection has to be a common goal, inspiring and fun. Once kinks get into those aspects, great projects with immense potential can easily fall by the wayside. Plus, he probably got way more pussy slinging that BMW engineer money than doing anything his musical mind wanted. It just adds to his accomplishments, Metal Guitar GOD, PhD in Mechanical Engineering, BMW Engineer, probably rolls over after laying pipe and still plays Necrophagist solos at album quality unplugged. Not many folks can do all that LOL. BAWSS
