    I was firstly interested by the MBA M2 but prices in Europe are more expensive and quite close from MBP when you chose ram / storage options so I decided to go for the MPB 14 10C 16GPU that i was lucky to get quickly for a very good deal ! I love music, i must say that on the MBP it sounds amazing !!! For this only i would definitely recommend to chose it over the Air, right after i can say that the ProMotion screen is also perfect to watch 4k HDR content. For those worried about the weight, even with a case on it, it's still feels light to me, just go for it you won't regret !!!

    In Europe, prices are a little different, and the difference between MBA with 512 GB and entry level MBP is only ~100€, so you would definitely think twice about going with the air, given that the pro just has many nice features, like the larger and way better screen and the speakers. Only if portability is the main factor, the air is better.

      Exactly, if you need 512 GB of disc space and 16 GB of ram anyway then M2 Air is currently almost the same price as base 14 inch M1 PRO model so in that case I think 14 inch M1 Pro is a winner.

    Honestly after you bump the MBA for 16gb ram and 512gb storage you’re purely buying it for the slim factor because you’re nearly at the price of a MBP. I'm going to go ahead and buy a midnight M2 Air and if I end up barely touching my 14inch Pro after 3-6 months I may just go ahead and sell it.
    I do like to play game on my MacBook tho so I could see that being an issue with the M2 Air and it might sway me to use the pro enough but I really enjoyed how light and portable and robust the old 2020 Air felt to me in comparison to the 14inch Pro. The 14inch pro just feels heavier and more delicate. I'm always worried I'm going to drop it or damage it and don' ever feel like taking it anywhere outside my house.

      @@GunzyHD I can’t stand these comparisons. And honestly, not only does apple confuse consumers with performance overlap, TH-camrs also try and show they can do similar things. At the end of the day, know your software, know how you multitask. I’m a professional who uses graphic programs that are demanding. I open up a ton of tabs, I leave files open, I forget to close things out! Unless you are very structured with your laptop usage, don’t do demanding things, are good with only having one or two or maybe 3 things open, then Air makes sense. But to try and put performance and all that against entry level devices vs pro machines is just silly. And from Apples perspective, they need to actually make PRO models…not an M2 pro that’s kinda a pro, but kinda old as crap, but has a fan, but an air blows it away in other things….like stop! Have the M1 pro, Max and Air. PRO and MAX should blow away an AIR in every way. And Apple should lower the price of the Air to reflect that. I just bought the M2 Air with 16go and 512go at a discounted price of 1630€ in France.
    Looking for the best price I could find for the base 14 ´MacBook Pro, it wasn’t under 2000€. So that make almost a 400€ difference in price, enough for not hesitate between the 2.
    Furthermore, after using it for about 2 weeks now, I am always so surprised how light it is, I have the feeling to hold my iPad Pro instead a computer…
    Performances wise, I edit videos in DaVinci Resove, 4K 422 10 bit files from Panasonic S5, edit files is a breeze, even with colour correction and some Luts or effects applied.
    I can play up to 4 4K layers without dropping any frame.
    The only limitation during my work is when I apply some fusion effects or title, I need to lower the playback resolution, as per the base MacBook Pro 14 I presume.
    Of course export time are longer, but the most important for me is to be able to work in a creative way, being able to instantly see the result on my timeline. If I need to wait 30 min for my project to render, this is absolutely not a problem, as soon as I know what to expect for the result.
    Of course for heavy project with a lot of animations, it is not the best choice but it is not intended for that purpose.
    For my daily work, including writing, web browsing and editing some photos and my TH-cam videos which are about 15 mins long, it is far good enough !

    Despite the issue of thermal throttling I lean toward the M2 MacBook Air,. I'm a musician. Fan noise ruin-no matter how slight-can ruin a recording session. And it can hamper an editing session and make it needlessly fatiguing.
    I'd gladly pay a premium for a MacBook Pro if-depending on circumstances-I could choose thermal throttling (i.e. loss of performance) over fan activity. I'm not anti-fan. I'd gladly let the fan fly while exporting videos or intensive photo editing-no problem there. But I'd opt to keep fans off while running certain audio/MIDI apps, like Logic, particularly when throttling is not detrimental to the workflow or fidelity the current audio tasks. Throttling leaves a musician's work environment free from noise pollution. And I'd prefer a little harmless heat and an innocuous reduction of power.
    So, am I missing something?
    Are there MacOS settings or preferences on MacBook Pros to choose throttle over the fans? If not, why not. I'd be a higher paying customer if there are.

      From what I've heard, the MB pro is so efficient that the fans are silent while running Ableton. Unless you're running a project with 200 instances of Omnisphere you shouldn't notice much noise I think.

    • @krnzio
      @krnzio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is 3rd party software to turn the fans off or limit them to very low, hopefully silent, speed. Then the MBP will automatically throttle if it runs too hot. But nobody can say if this will damage internals since it’s not built to run without a fan. I wouldn’t put a MBP on full load with this kinda mod, but if you’re just doing some recording? Piece of cake for that machine, so you could do that (in fact it probably wouldn’t even activate the fans even without the mod).

    • @Ferrichrome
      @Ferrichrome 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@krnzio Yeah, for basic recording this thing shouldnt break a sweat. It can easily handle 50x that workload before the fans turn on. If not then just freeze tracks to increase performance, but honestly I doubt that's necessary unless you're Hans Zimmer

    This would've been an easier option if Europe had similar prices.
    I'll give you my example: I was torn between the M2A and M1PRO. In Portugal the M2A baseline is 1300€ (average) but with 512GB storage and 16GB RAM it bumps up to 1700 territory. I ended up buying the M1PRO for 2k€ which to me is a small enough price difference that will justify it.
    The M2A simply doesn't give me the confidence for long sessions like even web browsing at home for like 4-5 hours. If I want to game a bit, the M2A feels like it will kill itself trying to keep up so the fans on the pro and considering how optimized these laptops are, feels better.
    Also the battery life on the M1s especially the M1PRO/MAX was already super good and on real life use I reckon the difference won't be that big.
    Also the extra ports is simply something people aren't valuing imo. The hdmi port will be user important if you're trying to project a presentation for an audience for example or having better portatibility at home with monitors. With the M2A I would need to buy an adaptor just for this which doesn't seem that good. Also 256GB (i'm not even going to address the speeds has it's fast enough that most people won't notice) is super super low for a laptop and being forced to buy external storage is yet another gadget that I will have to buy. If you add all of this to the 1300€ MBA suddenly Its getting more and more expensive (the pro also has an audio jack..)

    One thing some of these videos made me realize is that rendering speeds are only a small percentage of the time we spend on creating a video project. Please don't give people wrong advice. The 10-core GPU M2 might throttle inside the M2 MBA, but it's going to be more energy efficient when it's in those throttled power states, thanks to 10 cores running in parallel vs. 8 (it might sound counter intuitive, but running 10 cores at a lower voltage than 8 cores at a higher voltage will give you better performance at the same power levels, a.k.a better performance per watt, which equals lower energy usage). So even if there's no speed difference, you're going to get better battery life on throttled power states with the 10-core M2.

    I disagree about the speakers, in my opinion the speakers on M2 Air sound better as they cover wider range of frequencies compared to the M1 Air and yes they are a bit quieter but the sound quality has improved.

    • @MaxTechOfficial
      @MaxTechOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They do cover the frequencies a bit better, but in all of our testing Vadim and I both agreed that if we had a choose we would go with the M1's wider stereo separation and volume. With that said the 14" destroys the M1 Air in every way.

      @@MaxTechOfficial Yeah I noticed it too, M1 Air does have a wider stereo separation but M2 Air does the job pretty well too in my opinion. As long as you are in front of it, you really get the feel of spatial audio feature. And about 14", it sure does destroy the Air no doubt!

      I am the same. 🤠 After owning the M1 16" MBP, I can't imagine using a small screen again (especially one that is not ProMotion Display / mini-LED). Plus there's also the better thermals, best battery life, better speakers, larger track pad, and on, and on, and on.... Honestly, this (the 16" MBP) is one of the thinnest, lightest laptops I've owned! I easily carry it to another room, out onto the patio, put it in my back pack for the short walk to the car (if going somewhere) then the short distance into where ever I am going. Let's face it, a laptop is on a desk/table 98% of the time - LOL 😆

    I like small machines. Portable and light. I just needed more beef in processing power though since I deal with high res videos and fast frame rates. The M1 Pro does that. Plus an extra thunderbolt port. So the 14” was the perfect balance for me as of right now for those kind of things for right now. If I need even more power, I’ll probably just head straight to the Mac Studio instead with newer chips. If they slapped on that same chip on the MacBook Air and gave me that extra port, I would probably have ordered one since it’s cheaper. The M2 Pro that will be on the new MacBook Pros will of course be improved, how much though? We shall see when apple launches that whenever they do that. Like I said, I might just head straight to the Mac Studio if I need more performance. The laptops can only be so powerful. It has to be able to run on battery after all and they can only do the best it can to cool the system down. On desktops, there’s plenty of headspace to put a way better cooling system in the machine.

    Based on previous videos from MaxTech and other TechGurus.... I chose to buy the MBP 14" base model over the MBA m2.... Reasons: Price (I found it on sale, cheaper than MBA with recommended upgrades), performance, display, and speakers (which are so good that I decided to let go of my bose desktop speakers. I play movies, music, all sound great!). Sometimes, depending on what I'm working on MBP does get warm, but the fans help kool it down fast which I imagine would not be the case with MBA. All in all, I'm certain I made the right decision for me. OH! also the extra ports are most helpful!

    I own a specked 16" MBP M1 Max and don’t mind to bring it with me when necessary. 14” was my second. I returned the MBP 14" M1 to get the Air. I was in doubts until I tried the Air. The weight makes a humongous difference relative to the 14". If owning just one, then probably not the Air for a geeky user.

    I bought the M2 Air like half a month ago and with the pricing in Europe I ordered the 512/16 model + AppleCare and in total it was over 2k euros (and this was even with the education prices). I could have bought the 14 inch Pro for almost the same price, but the only reason I went with the Air is because the aesthetics for me are extremely important. I hate the design of the Pro laptops, they look very thick, there are only 2 (boring) color options and with the all black keyboard they look like an old windows laptop (like an old HP or something 😀). My new starlight M2 Air is very beautiful. I was a bit sad that they got rid of the rose gold color option, but the starlight actually looks amazing in person. I'm coming from an old Asus laptop, which was very slow and laggy, to the point that it was almost unusable, so this feels like a huge upgrade to me. :)
