    Same here. My mom played Kenny Rogers greatest hits. I can't listen to any of his songs without thinking about her and me and my sister being small. 100% Nostalgia

      I was blessed, I married Kenny's clone! My hubby looked and sounded like Kenny! Some people actually thought he was Kenny!

    Tommy's dying father said, walk away IF you can. He could not walk away from this one. Sometimes you have to fight when your a man. Someone hurts your loved one that is the time you stand up for them. Ambrose Cynthia, you are very pretty. Good reaction.

    My Husband looked like, and sounded like Kenny Rogers! Only, my Husband had Ice Blue Eyes! He couldn't get on stage without doing Kenny's songs! That, and Bob Seger!!! My Favorite was the Gambler, but he did this one too!

    That moment when you realize that fun childhood song has a much deeper story then you remembered...

    An unusual song. From one chorus to the next, it goes from happy, to dark, to finally resolved.

    This brought back memories. I was around when this first came out in the 1970's. I was in high school. My dad used to wake up to radio station AM 1600 KDRY Country Music. My mom, sister and I listened to it by proxy. It cultivated my love for old country & western music (old by today's standards . . . it was new then). Thank you for your reaction. Most excellent as always. I loved it as always. Have a wonderful day! 🙏🙏

    My mother loved country music and I remember listening to it with her as a kid growing up. Kenny Rogers was one of her favorites and she played his records all of the time. I used to hear this song so much but never really understood the lyrics because I was so young. Thank you for sharing this reaction!💯

    Hello Ambrose, new subscriber. Great reaction... I'm older than you, but I also remember this song from when I was a kid as well, and now that I think about it I guess I didn't completely understand it at the time either. Great reaction to a great song. And as a complement I must say, you are a very beautiful woman. I love your accent as well :)

    They made this song in to a movie (like they did with The Gambler). Here is the fight scene and you can also see the full film here as well:

    I've always been a pacifist. I never started a fight, but I ended every one.

    When I first discoed this song back in the 80s, because its a Country song I made the loose assumption that it was set in the Wild West, and that the characters might be Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher in adulthood! FAIL!
    Later, I discovered that the movie of the same name was set during the Second World War.

    I can't listen to this song without getting angry and upset. Men who do these things don't deserve to breath anymore. It just doesn't work if you live your life as a pacifist because evil will just use it as an excuse to see you as an easy target. Sadly Becky had to pay for his mistake and a fist fight didn't come close to justice for Becky.

      I read somewhere that this song was based on a true event; and the first guy he hit died.

      In what possible fucked up'd interpretation can you possibly insinuate it was Tommy's fault what happend to her? 🤦‍♂️

    • @JosephDiveley
      @JosephDiveley 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FMK1317 They only did that to her because they had no respect for him. When a man runs away from everything people don't just bully him but his entire family. Especially disgusting lowlifes.
      In cities no cares about you or your personality but in a small town your reputation is everything. If bad people think you're weak they will seek you out because they view you as an easy target.

    • @FMK1317
      @FMK1317 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JosephDiveley A: I live in a city,and reputation is still a big thing here. If a man or woman walk's out on their family,sleep's around ect they get hounded and people defo avoid them and their family.
      B: That in no way make's it his fault.
      That's like blaming the victim of a crime 🤦‍♂️

    • @JosephDiveley
      @JosephDiveley 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FMK1317 I live in the city too atm and it's nothing like small town living. The girl is the victim here not him. Nothing happened to him. It happened to her. I am not blaming HER for being a victim. I am blaming HIM for living his life in such a way that it invites people to bully him and his family. When you don't stand up to evil people they just view you as food to be used up and spit out. In small towns especially, weak minded people end up the target of the local bullies because you might be the only easy target for MILES.
      Do you honestly think the Gatling Boys would have done such a terrible thing to Becky if they knew Tommy would make them pay for it? Most likely not, because most bullies are only cowards who prey upon the weak.
      It's certainly good to forgive others and to turn the other cheek but we only have 2 cheeks. At some point, you have to live a life that shows others that your a nice guy but only to a point. Otherwise there will just be a lot more girls like Becky. Don't be like Tommy and wait till it's to late to stand up and be a man. Do it BEFORE.
      That's all I will say on this matter.
