Probably the biggest mistake of this silly season was that midseason renewal of Perez. That was completely nonsensical from Red Bull and completely derailed their play in the market. I truly wonder who is the true responsible for those decisions given the dynamic between factions at the team

It happened before during Perez' constant inability to qualify in the top ten. Horner re-signed him then to take a level of stress from him in the hopes that it would help, and it did (to an extent). He did it last year for the same reason. Horner is actually pretty good with the drivers, it's Marko who treats them like poison, unless they're his choice.
Funnily enough, De Vries was Marko's choice and Horner warned him that it would be a bad move. Marko even admitted to it.

He was also working with the FIA back in 2022 as a financial advisor to newly appointed F1 boss, Stefano Domenicali. He hasn’t been banned for years, close to half a decade now. This is the chaotic driver market we hoped for back then. So many young drivers and relative rookies getting chances, especially in top teams.

It seems increasingly more difficult for rookie drivers to make the transition from F2 to F1 and I think it's purely down to modern F1 cars being so tricky to drive fast and get used to quickly because of the ground effects needed to keep the car glued to the ground. Natural drivers tend to get used to a tricky older F1 car much quicker than an aerodynamic dependent modern F1 car, Colapinto's crashes in Brazil and Las Vegas. These modern F1 cars are super heavy and very aero dependent and when you lose control of them there is just no coming back from it.

Honestly, the biggest clown move was Audi going for Hulkenberg when they had Bottas. I'd understand if they went for another driver to replace Bottas, it's not like he's the hottest driver on the grid, but Hulkenberg? They let go of a proven GP winner with prime Mercedes experience to get a choker, a guy who threw every chance he's got to score even a podium.

Hulkenberg has some epic qualifying pace that could get some early results for Audi, maybe throw a midfield car onto the front row or similar. Meanwhile Bottas isn't even convincingly beating Zhou. Who else would you even go for as a experienced driver to lead the team? Audi tried for Sainz and didn't get him. Perez? Ricciardo? Ocon? Magnussen? None in great form, meanwhile Hulkenberg has 42pts in a Haas.

BoP would also solve the cost issue and attract more car brands. Just build a car balance it out with the others and use it for 3 years. No need to spend millions just to get 0.1 seconds faster.
