- We experience drastic changes in water levels on the River Avon and get to meet the Avon Navigation Trust engineers, who tackle a major obstruction on their waters. My favourite bit of this video is where I see the big Sea Monster ;)

Dankeschön. Wir arbeiten vom Boot aus und haben momentan einen Lockdown bis zum 2. Dezember. COVID ist hier auch traurig, aber es geht uns gut auf dem Boot. Dir auch ein schönes Wochenende. Bis zum nächsten Mal :)

We were on the Avon last summer and it is beautiful. Stuck in floods at Tewkesbury (where the Avon meets the Severn) for 2 weeks but Nicki, the Lockeeper made sure we were OK. Lots of kindness on the Avon.
They are a great bunch - we really enjoyed it too.

Binge watched your vlogs. The lot are pretty good visuallym the sound and music are balanced and the drone footage is a plus.
BTW, please look into the lens when talking to camera rather than at yourself. That is a newbie mistake - NO EYE CONTACT dimishes the volg because you aren't connecting with each viewer - eye to eye.

We tried to move it the night before so we could moor up properly. But it wouldn't budge. Now we know why ;)

That was a huge piece of tree 8n the water
Yes it was rather large.
I left a bottom lock open once by mistake and opened the next lock. Flooded the place. I was gutted.
It takes a while to get used to the way water is managed on canals. I am sure you won't make the same mistake again ;)

Thank you :) The tree was too big even for the digger and needed to be chopped up before being removed. As the river was in flood and water levels were too high that day, it wasn't safe to remove the tree fully.The engineers will come back when water levels are safe and back in the green zone to finish off the job.

how have the cats adjusted to living on the boat
We have had them on board since they were 8 weeks old, so it is all that they have known. They love stopping at new places to explore and always know how to get back to the boat.

We like a bit of adventure. We have lived on our narrowboat for over 1 year and have learnt to be calm in these sort of situations. Turned out be quite fun :)
Why are you worried about floods. A board or vessels fload on water. It's what they are designed to do. Take heavy weather and water.
The river had a red warning, which means nobody is allowed to cruise. Also, we need to be careful when we are moored up. Ropes tied badly and non-flood safe mooring can cause narrowboats to capsize when the water levels change drastically.

Ropes need to be checked from time to time so that they are not too slack or tight even at night. If you are in the channel Isle of Alderney there is a 40ft drop from low to high tide in a four hr period. Red ball I gues is like three black ones at sea. Ropes should always be tidy and not a mess. As you may need them quickly to sort something out.
You need to look at some of the TH-cam videos of the Hebden Bridge floods. Narrowboats ended up in the treetops.
Great adventure...I grew up near the Shropshire Union Canal in Cheshire
Cool. Many canals are great locations to live, do exercise and hang out on. Love living by water :)

@@catherinefinn1427 Hi. Yes that's them, Dave became unwell and Glynis decided to sell, very sad. They had a waterside pub years ago and we were moored outside one morning after a great evening in the pub and Dave heard us start up and cruise away and he said to himself 'one day that will be us'. They bought a boat soon afterwards. Great times. Enjoy your boat, we have loved ours for 22years. Tim

The Thames can be one of the worst for flooding when the rain really hammers down .
I remember one evening charter I did from Cookham - Windsor with steamer Hampton Court , ( The boats moorings are just inside Windsor bridge) .
I remember coming through the bridge with a good flow behind me and at night to back the boat up into the moorings alongside the wall .
Now the latter was fun 😉
Water levels change very quickly on Rivers so we had to adjust our ropes and move to flood safe mooring as quick as we could when the rain got really heavy.
Princess of Shiraz I will have to dig out the picture of steamer Mary Stuart at Henley Stage during a random flooding during the summer of 2010 if I recall .
The photo was given to us as a family by friends of my family one chap from the family went with my dad to check on the boat the day after the heavy rains .
