    Got many questions about what this material is. It's a felt pad. Here is a link to amazon where you can choose it in any colour to match amzn.to/2D4ja22 Just make sure that it is not too thick as you have to squeeze it in a very tight space between the wood pieces. Also make sure you have a big piece that you can cut to the right size. If you already have the small round ones, try lining them up along the space you want to cover. This should help while you are waiting on the bigger piece you can cut to size.

    • @neoyaku
      @neoyaku 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DiyRoby what kind of tool did you use to get the material in between the tight space?

    • @diyroby732
      @diyroby732  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@neoyaku DOn't know I I missed your question. Once you dismantle the joint you stick the felt pad to one of the wood surface and then reattach the joints. If the felt pad is too think you may not be able to reconnect the joints. Ideal felt pad thickness will be 1-4mm max.

    Just if anyone is wondering, this does legitimately work. I added some extra weather stripping along the length of the frame for extra padding and it’s completely silent now. Not even vigorous activity gets noisy now.

      I didn’t have to take the entire bed apart for this, but I removed the mattress, box spring and the center slats so that I could lay down enough of the foam weather stripping along the frame.

  • @cmddelete2169
    @cmddelete2169 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Heads up. Bolts done up too tight makes the noise. Just wind the bolts out 1 turn or so. Home assembled furniture is v. low manufacturing tolerance so things are meant to move fractionally. Tightening up the bolts too much adds more force so more friction, meaning more noise.

    • @joolyyt376

      I work on aircraft and on the plane we don’t tighten bolts fully purely because when the bolts are too tight it produces more stress on that joint. This is exactly the same problem you are talking about

    • @diyroby732
      @diyroby732  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes Neila, you have to dismantle the exact location where you have the squeak(s) and insert this felt pad inbetween the joints. You can check on amazon or at your local hardware shop. I found mine in a home furniture chain called jysk. If you have jysk near you then surely you'll find this product. If you dont find the big piece, then just line up the small ones tightly along filling up the space. That might work well.

    *Most bed squeaks come from the boxspring. Easiest way to stop the noise is to flip the box spring over and pull off the fabric cover underneath that's stapled on. Then remove all of the cardboard you see between the wood, I don't even know why they call it a "box spring" since it's only a wood frame with no springs. Flip the box frame back over and enjoy your new quiet bed. You're welcome.*

    • @Beenthere2xs
      @Beenthere2xs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do NOT do this. The cardboard helps to distribute weight evenly and to keep the wood frame rigid. Depending on what your boxspring is sitting on, wood slats/the floor,..it will start to wobble and break as weight is placed unevenly on it. A better bet if the cardboard is noisy is to glue the underside of the cardboard to the wood frame it sits on so sections of it move at all with pressure. You may use an entire bottle of wood glue for this but it's totally worth it.

I've been sleeping on my bed for over a year now with no problems, bed is still silent and quieter than it was when I bought it new and there have been no stability issues. My 6 and 7 year old kids even sleep in my bed with me sometimes also We're talking around 500 lbs with all 3 of us and the bed has had no stability issues even with this much weight, nor does it make any noise. Every other person who's removed the cardboard from their boxspring has had no issue either so keep sleeping on that noisy boxspring all you want, mine is silent no matter how hard I move on it.*

      @@bigtexas7580 glad yours worked out for you. Obviously you don't know everyone who's ever removed the cardboard to say nobody's had a problem. You didnt. Good for you. However it doesn't make sense to call my solution total BS. If you glue the cardboard as I suggested and the squeaks stop great. If not then you can rip it out as you suggested. But if you go your route and rip it out at first and then your boxspring loses stability you can't put the cardboard back in again. So it makes sense to try my solution first and not leap to yours, just in case.
