Friday night, audiobook, and a cold beer. I was happily mini-felting away, until I realised I didn't have enough felt pads! I'm only half way done and I don't have a drill, but it's already made a difference. Thank you! I'll continue tomorrow, and probably share this video with 10 people :)
After some paranormal activities I got a noise complaint from my neighbor. I wish I would have seen this video prior to spending a whole day working things out. I started with the braces and the braces reduced sound for me about 95%. But there was a thudding i couldn't track down, I put 1/4 pad at the 6 connection points to the floor, that didn't quite do it, but there was constant thud that kept on occurring only when jumping on the bed. The metal bar at 1:45 the culprit. Man, jammed those plastic pads in there and this bed went from a noise making machine to quiet as can be. Not a squeak out of it.
Omg thank you. I've had this bed for 7-8 yrs. I can't remember how long. But we moved it and now it is making all kinds of noise and I HATE IT. I'm sure moving it loosened things up, but I've moved it to a couple different houses without problem and this time was only moved around the bedroom. So glad I found this video!
I'm so regretful about buying this bed. I do something to reduce the noise almost every month. For the first few days, there's no sound, but then it starts again. I don't have enough budget to buy a new bed frame. I'll try your methods one last time. If that doesn't work, I'll burn it in the garden. Thank you.
Thank you so much!! all i had to do was get abt 100 foam circles and stick abt 5 to each slat and the sound is completely gone. Ngl I was pretty skeptical at first but desperate enough to give it a shot. Surprisingly works lol
Thanks man! You have saved another relationship 😂 so tired of a loud bed every time I sit on it. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your ideas.🎉🎉
Thank you so much! We tried tightening the screws but it didn't solve the problem. We were considering buying a new frame but I don't like the idea of trashing an otherwise perfectly good bed. This will definitely give a new life to our bed frame. Thank you for the tips!
Your video was a life saver! My wife and I found that just padding the central vertical plank at the head and toe of the bed with felt reduced 90% of the noise. It was the quickest and least effort step we could take, as the floating slats didn't seem to make much noise in our case. Not sure how long ours will last without the reinforced L brackets you added, though.
For me, 2x2 L-shape brackets at the top and bottom of the big metal bar in the middle (one side on the bottom and the other on the top like in the video) already did the trick for me! So glad to finally fix the noise issue; should have done this way sooner. Thanks!!!
This bed was driving me mad! Fitted brackets everywhere you suggested and removed the wooden dowels from where the central piece meets the ends (they were squeaking so much). Seems to have fixed it totally. Thank you!
Thanks Stephan! Really useful information that I’ll act on! Great job! Squeaky beds are annoying, so I’m glad I found your video! I will be assembling a Brimnes bed and I can troubleshoot before the problem arises. I will be using all of your tips. I’m really pleased that your shared this. It’s definitely worth doing for a sturdier, squeak free bed. Loving your work!
Thank you Stephan. I’ll get right to it. Quite a lot of work though which I’m not used to as regular Ikea customer. I hope they watch this video too and improve their design 👍
I just wanna say thank you very much for this post and the information is very useful. We had exactly the same issue with IKEA bed and it all resolved after tried with your tips.
I have a slightly different style but before going to the effort of doing all this just try taking off the diagonal arms attached to the sides going to the middle back of the bed because that only takes about 2 minutes. I made some extra legs, attached the corner brackets and it was still squeeky but after removing those arms it was perfectly quiet. They don’t seem to do particularly do anything structurally either.
Thank you so much, yeah same with Matteo below. Got to the point where had to start making more use of the ground floor than my bed for those fun times. Ugh.
Alternatively, what I did was instead of sticking many many many felt dots under the wooden slats, just cut strips of (a sturdy) fabric and secure it between the wooden slats and the metal bar and wood frame 👍🏼
I have another kind of bed from IKEA, but which is also a noise machine. I fixed most (maybe 90%) of the noise by putting a felt protector on the bed feet. I am going to try your tricks for the noise that comes from the metal bar, I hope it fixes the problem once and for all.
My ikea bed creaked and screeched when I breathed!! To fix this I got some paste wax and slathered it on the metal beams where the slats lay down and anywhere where the slats would touch the bed or potential points where there could be any friction. ( most of these creak noises are due to the metal screeching against the wood slats, the wax removed the friction causing the sound) This method fixed the creaks 100% with minimum effort and was much faster then this method where he individually placed the felt on the slats.

thanks you saved me a good nights rest allot of the screws of my bed were Loose and i fixed them back in the wood and the noice of my bed reduced by 95% i still hear squicking but very very very quickly
@@Leedsdroneguy I did all that was mentioned in this video and it worked great. The only this is when I moved appartments i sold it to the person moving in because i was pretty sure it wouldn’t survive being assembled another time...!!!
I put tape on the metal bars and now it’s completely silent. Plus the wood bars started to bend after a couple years so I flipped them over and it’s like a brand new bed!
I used a hot glue gun to glue the slats to the metal rails. I laid them out first without the glue. Then marked their location with a fine tip marker. Rolled up half the slats and glued them down working from the center to the headboard. After that was finished, repeated rolling up the other half and glued them down working from the center to the footboard. Glue down one slat at a time to make sure it is positioned correctly. This took me maybe 15-20 minutes to do. The bed I did this on was an IKEA Malm bed. Same slats and rails as the Brimnes bed.
Hi Stephan! I’m planning to but it for me and my wife. I wanted to ask you how is your bed now after few months? Is it noisy now after fixing it? Would you recommend it for a couple? Thank you

No issues on my end. Just make sure that you measure the thickness of the board and get the bracket that has screws that won't exceed the thickness. Then you should pre-drill the holes.
I can't believe how many views this video has gotten () hahaha. I hope it has been useful :). My bed is still quiet!
